Debate Text to come after debate conclusion
+
Dreasimy: Welcome to the March 2010 DP Debate! I expect all the candidates to participate except RosieRazor who had a previous engagement, but she has left some items that I can post for her where appropriate and she also told me she plans on answering topics that spring up during the debate later.
 +
Dreasimy: If you have questions for the candidates please submit them to E! Alternately, you can submit questions to me via chat (if you want to remain anonymous.) **Please** submit your questions sooner rather than later so I have a chance to use listener questions instead of my prepared questions where appropriate.
 +
Khaemwaset: applauds and settles down with popcorn
 +
Dreasimy: The other final candidates are Darwishi, blondie, Stevehotep, and DustiTwister! Welcome candidates! :D
 +
Dreasimy: Debate starting, other posts will be held (but feel free to use GOO for other announcements, like shroom/herb/critter sightings, in the mean time. Just type /join GOO)
 +
DustiTwister: Hi ya Egypt and Ty Dreasimy =) Glad to be here.
 +
blondie: Hi all :)
 +
Dreasimy: First, can you all share with the listeners a little about yourself for those who may not already know you?
 +
DustiTwister: I have been an ATITD player for the last 5 years. I have run mentoring guilds since I started. I do not try to pretend I am philisophical, because I am not. I am a down to earth, fair player. Currently I am not attempting to pass many tests because I am busy helping with Research, Opening techs, and Mentoring new folks as they come. I love to help others more than myself. I have a habit of just giving things to others when I hear their needs, but I also believe in Teaching someone how to do things for themselves.
 +
DustiTwister: I have mentored many, many people. I set a goal to build a deep well and it became a reality within 8 days. When I have nothing to do, instead of working on tests, I look in Bazaar and randomly pick someone who needs the hardest item and seek it out to “give” it to the person who was thinking they were going to buy it. I have purchased 3 sets so far of Huge Gems to give to people for their skill as well. The tests I have passed are Oblisk and Test of Towers. I love to build as a hobby at my compound so Test of towers has been one I still chase so I can build the monumentals. I have made many friends here in Egypt, and one in particular who has very, very limited time, I welcomed to my compound and currently share everything I have with him so that when he does finally get the time to play, he has access to everything that he needs. I feel that is an accomplishment because in itself, it shows my willingness to not put a price upon pixils and give back what was given to me when I started playing 5 years ago.
 +
Darwishi: greetings Egypt. i live in the UK and have been playing ATITD since late T1. Ialways chase Arch test and this tale find myself following worship and Leadership
 +
Stevehotep: Hi Egyptians, I’m originally from England, and whilst in Egypt I am based in Meroe. I am a member of many guilds all around Egypt and very much enjoy the social interaction to be found there, the help everyone gives each other and the group projects. Whilst this is my first tale, I play for at least 12 hours a day and put a lot of passion and care into my time here. I have learnt an awful lot already and I hope to continue learning and helping for a very long time
 +
Dreasimy: From RosieRazor: I am 34-years-old and live on the southern coast of Maine, USA. I am the owner of two small businesses, as well as a licensed veterinary technician. Due to health issues, I’ve been on medical leave for a bit over two years, giving me an abundance of free time to play ATITD. Tale 4 is the first tale I’ve played, and I’m happy to have discovered the game. I enjoy many aspects of ATITD, including crafting, building, foraging, working on tests, donating time and materials to tech research, and being involved in community projects. I also enjoy helping others, be it by helping them become familiar with the game, working towards goals or finishing projects, or answering any questions they might have. Lastly, I enjoy the social aspect of this game. I’ve met so many wonderful people and enjoy the friends I have made in-game.
 +
blondie: I’ve been a resident of Egypt since tale 1 and have met many wonderful people and have seen many good ones go. I am an Latin American currently living in the UK with my game and rl husband. I play for fun but I also take things in this ‘game’ seriously when its called for. I am dedicated to Egypt as much as can be (unless there’s an rl commitment like ...rl work, eww). DONE
 +
SpicyXX: i will say 1 thing then i will just listen. “ What a nice list of canidates we have this time and good luck to all”
 +
Dreasimy: Do you still enjoy playing ATITD? What do you enjoy about it now, is that different from what you used to enjoy about it?
 +
DustiTwister: I definitely enjoy playing ATITD. The biggest attraction to me is the people. I do not play to “pass tests”. I come here to socialize and get to know others. I view ATITD as a huge animated chat room in which when no one is available to chat, I have things I can do to occupy my time. This is different than the way I used to play in previous tales. I used to chase after the tests, but since those times, my view has changed. The tests are no longer my priority and have not been since joining Tale 4. I do pass some, but I am not “activly seeking” to pass many.
 +
Stevehotep: I enjoy playing ATITD as much now as the first week I was here, despite the lower population (something I hope to try and contribute towards repairing). There is just so much to learn and do. So many different “trades” and skills, tests and challenges. I have a real passion for making this game work, be successful and most importantly to ENJOY being here. I am very grateful to all the people that have helped me achieve that level of enjoyment thus far.
 +
blondie: I still enjoy playing atitd. My goals change or adjust from time to time. There’s always something different I want to try but times just seems to fly when making plans to do all those things.
 +
blondie: I do miss that there are less people playing and more that seem to keep leaving. It’s not easy when it feels like Teppy is not putting in the effort to the game that players who remain in game are.
 +
Darwishi: It is difficult to be specific about which part of the game appeals to me the most, as it is such a multi-faceted game. This is my first tale pursuing DP as I feel I now have the knowledge and experience to serve the community in a manner expected of such an honourable position. I feel I am an enthusiastic. honest and reliable person and have the tact, diplomacy and discussion abilities to help find the easiest and most fair solution to most problems
 +
Darwishi: Over the Tales, i have become more of a community player. Thsiu has resulted in more and more freindships and helping in more and more guilds. I feel the game still has lots to offer.
 +
Khaemwaset: Question to all... first of grats on making it to the final round. Given the new shard and the seeming continuing decline in players in this telling, how do you see the role of DP in this late stage of the telling? And how would you try and lead what is left of Egypt?
 +
Dreasimy: Here’s a response from RosieRazor about the role of DPs: I believe the role of a Demi-Pharaoh should be that of a reasonable, knowledgeable mediator. In addition to being honest, temperate, and empathetic, I believe a DP needs to be approachable, socially engaged, and able to consider all perspectives in a given situation. A DP should be someone that other players know they can turn to with any concerns/issues they may be having. Regarding the topic of banning players, I believe this power should only be used in a “worst case scenario,” when all other options have been attempted and failed. Also, I believe that DP’s should work together to make decisions regarding the banning of players. (Note: Personally, I cannot think of a situation where I would find banning to be the only solution.)
 +
Stevehotep: I see the role of a DP during a decline like this as two-fold. Firstly we need to try and eloquently communicate with Teppy to try and reach a solution about encouraging new players here and keeping them interested, but on a day to day basis we must try our hardest to encourage players ourselves and to communicate with those who may be thinking of leaving, perhaps out of frustration with a lack of test/activities, to try and persuade them to stay, to offer our assistance with areas they may be struggling with, to do what it takes to incrase the “staying population”
 +
Stevehotep: In regards to “Leading Egypt” I don’t see a DP as a leader but as a mediator, a helper, an encourager of people. The greatest leader is not the one with the most subjects, but the one who creates the most leaders
 +
DustiTwister: I don’t see the roll less needed with less players . DP is a role to assist others, which can be done with or without ban powers, but DP gives that recognition that says, They are indeed a person to count on and can be depended upon. I would not do anything more different than I am now. Majority of you know me from T2 and T3, and I have matured over the tellings, gaining knowledge on a lot of many different ways in which to respond to a lot of different personalities along the way.
 +
Darwishi: ty Khaem. I think the role will be primarily the same. Just less of a player base if the decline continues. Not sure it is within the “role” of a DP, but needs to be the role of all egyptians to hold onto the players we have, and help and keep the new players coming along.
 +
blondie: The role of Dp still has its importance. One of the differences I see is that maybe things seem too quiet for people (the decline of population makes it seem that way more). Maybe it’s a good time for people to work one on one more than in the past.
 +
blondie: I would try to lead by continuing to work with other Egyptians and maybe work on organizing more player events. There seems to be a bit of indifference this telling so I’d try to find out what may get people up and running, gettign more into working on fun events or in learning things people did not previously try in other tellings.
 +
Dreasimy: Thanks for that question Khaemwaset :D
 +
Dreasimy: Can you give an example of how you handled a conflict where you were one of the parties involved in the conflict? Can you also give an example of how you handled a conflict where you were not one of the parties engaged in conflict, but rather a bystander/mediator?
 +
Stevehotep: A player who had been here many times under different guises and was known as a troublemaker, recently came back with yet another name and caused much grief to many players. He then went to Welcoming Island and was encouraging the new players there not to bother playing. Myself and a couple of others went down there, and I spoke with him calmly for nearly an hour after which he realised and accepted that he had behaved in an unnacceptable manner and agreed to go peacefully and not return. Following this, his IP was banned by Teppy as a safety precaution. I believe a lot of people are quite pleased he is no longer here :)
 +
Stevehotep: In terms of conflicts where I was directly involved, I can’t say that I have been directly involved in any conflicts . I like to think in my time here I’ve not upset anyone here enough to cause conflict. If I were to be involved in such a conflict I would, of course, deal with it in a calm and concilliatory fashion
 +
DustiTwister: Land Dispute ~ I have run into this: My solution was to personally provide materials to (either the builder of the Item or the CP) and help rebuild whatever it was to make the problem solved. I helped to locate land that was even better than the persons prior and gave them the materials myself. This may not work in every case, but it did in the one I was involved in. This issue was with myself, last telling. I did not need to call a DP for it because I was a citizen of Egypt and not a DP myself. I had the extra materials, and therefore, Helped offer to seek out land in which the person would want to build. I do nothing but make basic materials while hanging out at my compound, so typicaly I have them. So, if it were myself in this situation, that would be what I would do. I also had experience in which I did the same for another player. But, now we have the beacons in which that has nearly cut that problem.
 +
Orrin: side note: Steve was a real great help in keeping Zeus calm then, props to him!
 +
Darwishi: It didn’t get to a conflict condition but a cartouche group I was involved in did get a little personal for some players (as that test does sometimes). From the feedback I received, it appeared I had a calming influence on some of the discussions which followed the upset.
 +
Dreasimy: We have a follow up for DustiTwister while blondie is typing :D
 +
Orrin: QUestion for dusti (when this set are finished): you would supply materials? Why?
 +
DustiTwister: I personally would supply the materials because it is a small price to pay for resolution to a conflict. I believe being in ATITD, most of us are here to enjoy a game. Not be here to fight. It is important to me to see Egypt in Harmony. So, whatever lengths I need to go to see that done, if I possibly can, I will.
 +
nourbese: how come if Steve got rid of Zeus who hasn’t logged on for 147 days and stevehotep first logged in 132 days ago he could mediate??
 +
Dreasimy: Zeus made several different accounts nourbese, he started out as Zeus though
 +
Orrin: It was yet another of Zeus’ many accounts, I just refer to him as zeus since it’s way easier to remember one name than about 7...
 +
Darwishi: I think alot of players would help with materials Orrin
 +
Orrin: so DPs should pay for other people’s mistakes?
 +
Darwishi: not at all, “help” is the word i used
 +
Darwishi: a week or so ago, someone blew up a chariot stop, alot of people helped for tha tmistake
 +
Orrin: You assume the problem is generated by an honest mistake
 +
Dreasimy: I dont think anyone said all DPs should do that Orrin, I think individual candidates said they would.
 +
SpicyXX: i missed that which cs?
 +
DustiTwister: In this case it was not a mistake, the guy was new, and the explaination of “space” was not given to the person so after explaining reasons for the need of the land, and offering the materials, to lesson the loss, the person was more calm about moving. I do not think all Dp’s need to take responsibility of someone else actions, but if it comes down to bricks and boards, vs two people arguing, I think the bricks and boards win.
 +
Orrin: how is that not a mistake?
 +
Nissim: it was an accident, no a mistake
 +
DustiTwister: If you are unaware of the playing styles of ATITD, and have no knowledge, it can’t be called a mistake.
 +
EvilSnowman: gives Orrin boards and bricks.. Shh!
 +
Dreasimy: SpicyXX, Adn CS - after the last fishing event some peopel were ‘awarded’ volatile explosives and didnt know it, they ported to Adn CS and it blew up
 +
blondie: I’ve had some issues with people planting papy at the same time as i was and not always announcing when they plant. When i see papy in my path or see the person I usually stop and say i’m going to plant later or give the papy that might be mine since those kind of issues happen from time to time. I try not to judge them and think they may be stealing my papy and try not to get upset, as misunderstandings do happen.
 +
blondie: I suppose an occassion where there’s some potential for conflict where i’m not exactly involved could be with Tattoo herbs. I am in a guild where people help each other with finding herbs for passing the test. Many of us report herbs but others not in guild may pick the herbs for cooking, for seeds, or for their own tattoo needs. I had suggested, after an herb had been picked that maybe we can put bonfires on the herbs to alert those who don’t know that herb may be needed for tattoo (as that’s why I believe many have left some herbs behind.
 +
blondie: There was a possibility of someone getting upset and i’ve seen it happen (for the most part people kinda keep it to themselves on commenting in public) .
 +
blondie: I tried to avert a situation/problem when someone picked that herb. I suggested that it may make someone think twice about pickind the herb. This had been suggested and done by others in the past but I just brought it up to see if it might work. It may also not work but i thought it was worth a try rather than being upset. At the same time, there’s always other herbs as there can always be other solutions to issues people have.
 +
Dreasimy: Thank you candidates! Next up we have a question from a listener, submitted anonymously :)
 +
Dreasimy: Some (perhaps all) of the candidates have had interpersonal conflicts with other players (as have many of us, at one time or another), and some of these conflicts have become quite heated. If there were a conflict raised to you as DP, and it involved someone with whom you had experienced conflict with yourself in the past, do you feel you could be fair? Would you recuse yourself from the resolution of the conflict and ask another DP to step in?
 +
Darwishi: short and sweet answer is Yes I could be fair. To be open and “seen” to be fair, i would ask another DP to be involved also. More for how others would possibly see it. I would have no problem in raising any issues and/or doubts with other DP’s for thier opinion and advice.
 +
DustiTwister: I have had a few conflict issues, with people’s names whom need not to be mentioned. However, I can deeply and honestly say, I still have no heated feelings with them. I am still on a hello, how are you basis, and mean it when I ask how they are. I am one to get mad and get over it fast. DP’s are human, and anger is a human response, but hate is seeded, and I have no room for hate. I would drop what I am doing to help someone who didn’t care for me, just as fast as I would for someone who loved me dearly.
 +
Stevehotep: I believe that everyone deserves to be dealt with in a fair fashion, whatever has happened before and I would deal with any issue raised with that level of fairness. If a “conflict of interests” were likely to come into play I would consult with other DPs who I know are not involved in that situation and take it to a “Senate” situation rather than try and handle it alone
 +
blondie: I think I would try to be as fair as possible when a conflict arose because that’s what I normally try to do. I tend to try not to get too involved when there has been previous conflict with a player (in particular when there seems to be an argument that cannot be won or that another person will just keep trying to one-up me one on) . Sometimes, it seems people just want to raise an issue with another person to see if they can get a rise out of them. I’m all for discussion and debating fairly but sometimes people let discussions get out of hand, as well. I have stopped myself, many times from sending a chat because i don’t think it’s resolving an issue.
 +
blondie: Generally, when i feel something is a little too close to me, I speak with my friends and I do look into what other people say (whether I agree with them or not) to get an idea of what could be fair and if there’s a chance i’m missing something someone said or i’m not understanding an issue.
 +
blondie: As a dp, I would carry that over to asking other dp’s what they thought about the conflict and figure out what would resolve the conflict. IF it comes to best handle the situation by someone one, I can understand and I would step away if it were needed.
 +
Dreasimy: Thank you candidates and anonymous listener :D Next is another listener question submitted by Ephemere
 +
Dreasimy: A DP is a player like another: as such they participate in the life of Egypt. 1 - In your opinion, can he (or should he) participate in the qualifying rounds of DP elections and why? 2 - In an election can he have an opinion on the candidates, naturaly; however, should he use his position to support actively one of these candidates?
 +
Darwishi: I am not sure how that would work, maybe if the DP’s could be “voted out” they could participate in the qualifying rounds. If they needed to requalify, in some cases it could possibly be the same DP’s getting re-elected.
 +
Darwishi: 2. yes i feel the Dp should be able to have an opinion on the candidates, but not use his position as a DP to actively support those candiudates.
 +
Darwishi: as you said Ephemere, the elected DP is a player, and should be able to support others, but as a player, not as a DP.
 +
Stevehotep: Good question Ephemere - and thanks for always working out the thistle voids by the way! ;-) In answer, I believe that a DP has the right to give opinions on up coming elections, of course, as long as it is purely fair opinion and doesn’t become slanderous to any of the candidates involved. Everyone, no matter what position they hold, no matter how experienced or otherwise, has the right to their opinion and no more than that, nor any less than that. I don’t understand the first part of your question about “participating in qualifying rounds” though.....
 +
DustiTwister: I believe a DP can participate in future elections. It should however, be stated from the beginning the intentions. I say this because, there are some rounds that are all new people and have no idea what the responsibilities are or have not yet earned Egypts trust who should not go forward, thus with someone who has been elected, can assist with the understanding, or cast a vote that would prevent the DP position from falling into the wrong hands. As far as position: To use threats? Then you shouldnt be a DP to begin with, but if you are referring to knowledge passed on how it works or preventing someone who shouldn’t have it, yes, were players just as anyone else is. A true DP would not use their ban as a threat against voters and ultimately would not allow themselves to be again in last round.
 +
Dreasimy: While we wait for blondie, Id like to start wrapping this up in 30 minutes, so if you have a question you were going to ask, now is the time. Submit it directly to E! or chat it privately to me, thank you!
 +
blondie: Yes, Ephemere, 1) I think they should because they have been elected to the position of DP in the trust that they have good judgement. 2) Even if that dp does favor one candidate over others he or she should not hold public campaigns for one. That could be viewed as an unfair advantage to the other candidates.
 +
Dreasimy: What do you think of past DPs who no longer play but promised to be here through the end of the telling?
 +
Stevehotep: I can’t say I know of any, without checking. But I will say that we can all make promises that we can’t always keep for one reason or another. There may well be a very reasonable answer as to why they are no longer here. That thing we call “rl” does have a habit of over-riding our plans here. I don’t wish to make any critical comments about a particular situation that I know nothing about. I think we have plenty of DPs who ARE still here, and trying their hardest for Egypt, just as myself and my fellow candidates would do
 +
DustiTwister: Sometimes real life throws curves. A promise to be here till the end of the telling was probably made not expecting those curves. I also know of one whom now holds a larger responsibility and is unavoidably held to keeping the current position. I think there are many elections for this reason. Real life must come first, but ultimately, people shouldn’t expect life to run so smoothly. Coming in to give an explaination would be of good service if at all possible.
 +
Darwishi: I think that at the point of them making that statement, they truly believed they would be here. Unfortunately, real life is always throwing the curved ball.
 +
Darwishi: Without knowing the facts of why each person left, it makes it difficult to comment on what I think of them. Every occurance would need to be assessed on its own individual circumstances.
 +
blondie: Unfortunately, RL happens and you never know what is going with people on the other side of the computer screen. It it sad when you see players you voted for go and not come back. I miss those players and hope that, at the least, we have the chance to elect other dp’s that will remain active in the game.
 +
Darwishi: during this slight interlude, i would like to take this opportuntiy to thank Dreasimy for an awsome debate chairperson !!!
 +
Dreasimy: aww shucks
 +
Dreasimy: we have another anonymous question!
 +
Dreasimy: Firstly describe yourself in five words ONLY and second describe your fellow Egyptians in five words ONLY. I would like a degree of brevity
 +
Orrin: (seconds that)
 +
DustiTwister: Giving, Generous, Honest, Sincere, Caring = Myself, Fellow Egyptians= Competitive, Caring, Helpful, Exciting, Challenging =)
 +
Stevehotep: Myself in 5 words:- A man for the people My fellow egyptians in 5 words:- Worth the effort, every time
 +
Darwishi: me - mature fun(ny) honest tolerant happy
 +
Darwishi: egyptians - always clicking the mouse button (5 words)
 +
blondie: Me: Talkative, Helpful, Honest, Reliable, Fun :)
 +
blondie: Fellow Egyptians: Helpful, Inquisitive, Quirky, Fun, Hardworking
 +
Khaemwaset: **interludes with an appalling attempt at bellydancing :X*
 +
Darwishi: put it away khaem :P
 +
Orrin: Vote Steve: The only guy that can string 2 sentences together in 5 minutes!
 +
SpicyXX: eeew cover it up Khae hehe
 +
DustiTwister: You didn’t specify sentences, it said “words” =P
 +
Darwishi: lol orrin..that was copy and paste !!!
 +
Dreasimy: Since the new shard was released, would your friends say your playtime on this shard has increased, decreased, or stayed the same?
 +
Orrin: I didnt specify anything!
 +
Khaemwaset: Shut up Orrin! xx i do still have that pink tutu somewhere? would you like me to wear that SpicyXX
 +
Dreasimy: Listeners please let’s keep the randomness down to a minimum so we can end the debate and release E! back to normal use :)
 +
DustiTwister: my playtime has increased, mostly because I didn’t go to the other shard and my doctors appointments have ceased. =)
 +
Stevehotep: My friends, and everyone else, would say my playtime on this shard has been steady, because I have had no desire at all to even visit the “other shard”. My Egyptian life is here, and will remain so for the forseeable future, it’s that simple
 +
blondie: My friends would say: my playtime hasn’t changed much.... I’m still here a lot of the time, just take time to get a nap or grab a drink.
 +
Darwishi: good question, but you would need to ask my freinds (looks around for any)....i would guess that they would say it has stayed the same.
 +
Dreasimy: I’ve received another anonymous question: What irritates each candidate the most in egypt as it currently is.
 +
DustiTwister: What irritates me the most in Egypt is the fact that many players are leaving without more tests being released. I am heartbroken at the rate of all the players leaving.
 +
DustiTwister: I have tried to encourage other things to do so they linger longer, sometimes it works, sometimes it does not. I just hope ultimately we get those tests released to keep players.
 +
Stevehotep: I don’t think I get irritated very much here. This is, after all, a game. When it becomes irritating it’s time to hit Alt-F4. However I would say that I sometimes wish there was more fun and less criticising of teppy, who in my opinion has done a damn fine job creating and maintaining what is essentially a fantastic game, despite the current problems which we all know about already. However, rather than just being irritated about that I will try to do what I can to help resolve those problems
 +
Darwishi: the answer to that has to be .......
 +
Darwishi: drum roll........
 +
Darwishi: ORRIN !!!
 +
Darwishi: only joking Orrin, ty for the bouquet, i mean bulbs
 +
Darwishi: so i can have 2 irritants, it has to be the rate of test releases.
 +
Orrin: Mate, you have no idea what I’ve been up to ;D
 +
blondie: As usual, i have a voodoo doll that I want to make for Teppy. I would love for people to remain in the game or to come back to it because there are new tests going on. I hate to see people leave but it gets harder and harder to expect people to stay when they are bored and feel they have done as much as they can with what teppy has provided.
 +
Dreasimy: I’d like to try to start wrapping it up :) Been about 2 hours. Candidates, can you please summarize your final thoughts? Anything you think we’ve missed? What should Egypt be considering when they go to punch their ballot, so to speak :)
 +
DustiTwister: I Believe first and foremost, Being a leader is not about ABILITY. Being a leader is about RESPONSIBILITY! Not just good decisions, but being able to take responsibility for bad ones or mistakes as well. That is what makes a good leader. Being willing to critisize yourself and take critisizm and not think your better than anyone else. I feel there are a lot of people in ATITD that would make a fantastic DP. I don’t feel I am the better than anyone else, but I do feel I can continue to give to Egypt what was so freely given to me during my years here in ATITD. I believe I can fit the standards of becoming a DP, therefore I believe you can depend on me.
 +
Stevehotep: My final thoughts are these; We have a fantastic set of candidates here, and I’m sure any one of them would make a great DP. For my part, I may be seen as the underdog due to this being my first telling, but I have a passion for this game that is undwindled and a fire in my belly. John Lennon once said “A Working Class Hero is something to be” and when it comes to the amount of hard work I’m prepared to put into this position if elected, I couldn’t say it better than that. I would continue to carry myself in an honest fashion, being “me” at all times and I believe that is the best way to be. Honest, open, and most of all, trying to bring the fun back into Egypt that some people think is gone.
 +
Darwishi: as an obvious comment, allEgyptians should vote for the individual they think will do the best job of being a Demi-Pharoah.
 +
Darwishi: I must also add that I feel all the candidates will do a fine job if elected, But for me, This is my first tale pursuing DP as I feel I now have the knowledge and experience to serve the community in a manner expected of such an honourable position. I feel I am an enthusiastic. honest and reliable person and have the tact, diplomacy and discussion abilities to help find the easiest and most fair solution to most problems. My real life experiences as a youth worker also contribute to the skills, knowledge and understanding which I feel make me an ideal candidate for the role of Demi Pharoah.
 +
blondie: I think all the current dp candidates are great choices for dp. All work with the community and love Egypt dearly. All bring their uniqueness to a game full of variety (as that is “the spice of life”).
 +
blondie: I wish luck to all here but I take being part of the Egyptwide election seriously and I am here because I would love to be DP. So I am biased in telling peopole that they should vote for me.
 +
blondie: I hope my actions and words speak for themselves and that I am allowed to take another role in the game. I would do it justice to the best of my ability. Thank you.
 +
Orrin: You callin me a kid Darwishi!?
 +
Dreasimy: Important question for candidates:
 +
Rabble: Where are all the Spiderling mushrooms?
 +
DustiTwister: the same place as the Golden Sun, they are out having a new brood.
 +
blondie: in your pocket? ;p
 +
Stevehotep: They are here, somewhere, mocking as an otter would....but they are here :)
 +
Dreasimy: Thanks to all the candidates and especially the listener questions :D I’ll have the log up on the wiki later tonight :D
 +
Dreasimy: Khaemwaset will be hosting a post debate hose down on Funtasy, type /join Funtasy to listen in :)
 +
DustiTwister: raises her hand in hopes she can use the ladies room SOON! =X
 +
Dreasimy: you are free to go Dusti :D
 +
Dreasimy: 2 hours on the nose, yay ;)
 +
Dreasimy: E! is now open for your regular programming ;D
 +
Khaemwaset: Grats Dreasimy and many thanks
 +
Darwishi: thanks Dreasimy, you did us proud :-)
 +
Stevehotep: Yes, Thanks Dreasimy. Tough room!!! ;-)
 +
Dreasimy: later! :D
 +
DustiTwister: Phew, okay, Ty Dreasimy, hugz to all of Egypt as usual =)

Final Candidates for Demi-Pharaoh March 2010 (2nd Election) include: blondie, Darwishi, Stevehotep, RosieRazor, DustiTwister

The winner was Stevehotep. The votes cast were as follows. 200 people voted. Stevehotep= 38.62%; DustiTwister=38.04%, RosieRazor=36.24%, blondie=35.90% and Darwishi=20.43%.

Some basic questions candidates can expect to answer in any given DP contest:

  • Tell us a little about yourself and what you like about ATITD
  • What you feel the role of DP is
  • Why you think people should vote for you

Other Debate Questions that have come up in the past:

  • Can you give an example of how you handled a conflict you were involved in? And/or can you give an example of how you handled a conflict you were not directly involved in?
  • What is more important in a DP: their ability to handle bans responsibly or their not taking advantage of their immunity from DP bans?
  • What types of things would you take into account when faced with a situation involving explosives or griefing if you were the only active DP?

Have a question for the candidates? Feel free to post it here or chat it to Dreasimy to have it asked during the debate if you cannot attend or prefer not to ask it yourself.

DP Debate Saturday March 27 20:30 UTC

Dreasimy: Welcome to the March 2010 DP Debate! I expect all the candidates to participate except RosieRazor who had a previous engagement, but she has left some items that I can post for her where appropriate and she also told me she plans on answering topics that spring up during the debate later.
Dreasimy: If you have questions for the candidates please submit them to E! Alternately, you can submit questions to me via chat (if you want to remain anonymous.) **Please** submit your questions sooner rather than later so I have a chance to use listener questions instead of my prepared questions where appropriate.
Khaemwaset: applauds and settles down with popcorn
Dreasimy: The other final candidates are Darwishi, blondie, Stevehotep, and DustiTwister! Welcome candidates! :D
Dreasimy: Debate starting, other posts will be held (but feel free to use GOO for other announcements, like shroom/herb/critter sightings, in the mean time. Just type /join GOO)
DustiTwister: Hi ya Egypt and Ty Dreasimy =) Glad to be here.
blondie: Hi all :)
Dreasimy: First, can you all share with the listeners a little about yourself for those who may not already know you?
DustiTwister: I have been an ATITD player for the last 5 years. I have run mentoring guilds since I started. I do not try to pretend I am philisophical, because I am not. I am a down to earth, fair player. Currently I am not attempting to pass many tests because I am busy helping with Research, Opening techs, and Mentoring new folks as they come. I love to help others more than myself. I have a habit of just giving things to others when I hear their needs, but I also believe in Teaching someone how to do things for themselves.
Darwishi: greetings Egypt. i live in the UK and have been playing ATITD since late T1. Ialways chase Arch test and this tale find myself following worship and Leadership
I have learnt an awful lot already and I hope to continue learning and helping for a very long time
Dreasimy: From RosieRazor: I am 34-years-old and live on the southern coast of Maine, USA. I’ve met so many wonderful people and enjoy the friends I have made in-game.
blondie: I’ve been a resident of Egypt since tale 1 and have met many wonderful people and have seen many good ones go. I am an Latin American currently living in the UK with my game and rl husband. I play for fun but I also take things in this ‘game’ seriously when its called for. I am dedicated to Egypt as much as can be (unless there’s an rl commitment like ...rl work, eww). DONE
SpicyXX: i will say 1 thing then i will just listen. “ What a nice list of canidates we have this time and good luck to all”
Dreasimy: Do you still enjoy playing ATITD? What do you enjoy about it now, is that different from what you used to enjoy about it?
DustiTwister: I definitely enjoy playing ATITD. The biggest attraction to me is the people. I do not play to “pass tests”. I come here to socialize and get to know others. I view ATITD as a huge animated chat room in which when no one is available to chat, I have things I can do to occupy my time. This is different than the way I used to play in previous tales. I used to chase after the tests, but since those times, my view has changed. The tests are no longer my priority and have not been since joining Tale 4. I do pass some, but I am not “activly seeking” to pass many.
I am very grateful to all the people that have helped me achieve that level of enjoyment thus far.
blondie: I still enjoy playing atitd. My goals change or adjust from time to time. There’s always something different I want to try but times just seems to fly when making plans to do all those things.
blondie: I do miss that there are less people playing and more that seem to keep leaving. It’s not easy when it feels like Teppy is not putting in the effort to the game that players who remain in game are.
Darwishi: Over the Tales, i have become more of a community player. Thsiu has resulted in more and more freindships and helping in more and more guilds. I feel the game still has lots to offer.
Khaemwaset: Question to all... first of grats on making it to the final round. Given the new shard and the seeming continuing decline in players in this telling, how do you see the role of DP in this late stage of the telling? And how would you try and lead what is left of Egypt?
Stevehotep: In regards to “Leading Egypt” I don’t see a DP as a leader but as a mediator, a helper, an encourager of people. The greatest leader is not the one with the most subjects, but the one who creates the most leaders
Darwishi: ty Khaem. I think the role will be primarily the same. Just less of a player base if the decline continues. Not sure it is within the “role” of a DP, but needs to be the role of all egyptians to hold onto the players we have, and help and keep the new players coming along.
blondie: The role of Dp still has its importance. One of the differences I see is that maybe things seem too quiet for people (the decline of population makes it seem that way more). Maybe it’s a good time for people to work one on one more than in the past.
blondie: I would try to lead by continuing to work with other Egyptians and maybe work on organizing more player events. There seems to be a bit of indifference this telling so I’d try to find out what may get people up and running, gettign more into working on fun events or in learning things people did not previously try in other tellings.
Dreasimy: Thanks for that question Khaemwaset :D
Dreasimy: Can you give an example of how you handled a conflict where you were one of the parties involved in the conflict? Can you also give an example of how you handled a conflict where you were not one of the parties engaged in conflict, but rather a bystander/mediator?
Stevehotep: A player who had been here many times under different guises and was known as a troublemaker, recently came back with yet another name and caused much grief to many players. He then went to Welcoming Island and was encouraging the new players there not to bother playing. Myself and a couple of others went down there, and I spoke with him calmly for nearly an hour after which he realised and accepted that he had behaved in an unnacceptable manner and agreed to go peacefully and not return. Following this, his IP was banned by Teppy as a safety precaution. I believe a lot of people are quite pleased he is no longer here :)
Orrin: side note: Steve was a real great help in keeping Zeus calm then, props to him!
Darwishi: It didn’t get to a conflict condition but a cartouche group I was involved in did get a little personal for some players (as that test does sometimes). From the feedback I received, it appeared I had a calming influence on some of the discussions which followed the upset.
Dreasimy: We have a follow up for DustiTwister while blondie is typing :D
Orrin: QUestion for dusti (when this set are finished): you would supply materials? Why?
DustiTwister: I personally would supply the materials because it is a small price to pay for resolution to a conflict. I believe being in ATITD, most of us are here to enjoy a game. Not be here to fight. It is important to me to see Egypt in Harmony. So, whatever lengths I need to go to see that done, if I possibly can, I will.
nourbese: how come if Steve got rid of Zeus who hasn’t logged on for 147 days and stevehotep first logged in 132 days ago he could mediate??
Dreasimy: Zeus made several different accounts nourbese, he started out as Zeus though
Orrin: It was yet another of Zeus’ many accounts, I just refer to him as zeus since it’s way easier to remember one name than about 7...
Darwishi: I think alot of players would help with materials Orrin
Orrin: so DPs should pay for other people’s mistakes?
Darwishi: not at all, “help” is the word i used
Darwishi: a week or so ago, someone blew up a chariot stop, alot of people helped for tha tmistake
Orrin: You assume the problem is generated by an honest mistake
Dreasimy: I dont think anyone said all DPs should do that Orrin, I think individual candidates said they would.
SpicyXX: i missed that which cs?
DustiTwister: In this case it was not a mistake, the guy was new, and the explaination of “space” was not given to the person so after explaining reasons for the need of the land, and offering the materials, to lesson the loss, the person was more calm about moving. I do not think all Dp’s need to take responsibility of someone else actions, but if it comes down to bricks and boards, vs two people arguing, I think the bricks and boards win.
Orrin: how is that not a mistake?
Nissim: it was an accident, no a mistake
DustiTwister: If you are unaware of the playing styles of ATITD, and have no knowledge, it can’t be called a mistake.
EvilSnowman: gives Orrin boards and bricks.. Shh!
Dreasimy: SpicyXX, Adn CS - after the last fishing event some peopel were ‘awarded’ volatile explosives and didnt know it, they ported to Adn CS and it blew up
blondie: I’ve had some issues with people planting papy at the same time as i was and not always announcing when they plant. When i see papy in my path or see the person I usually stop and say i’m going to plant later or give the papy that might be mine since those kind of issues happen from time to time. I try not to judge them and think they may be stealing my papy and try not to get upset, as misunderstandings do happen.
blondie: I suppose an occassion where there’s some potential for conflict where i’m not exactly involved could be with Tattoo herbs. I am in a guild where people help each other with finding herbs for passing the test. Many of us report herbs but others not in guild may pick the herbs for cooking, for seeds, or for their own tattoo needs. I had suggested, after an herb had been picked that maybe we can put bonfires on the herbs to alert those who don’t know that herb may be needed for tattoo (as that’s why I believe many have left some herbs behind.
blondie: There was a possibility of someone getting upset and i’ve seen it happen (for the most part people kinda keep it to themselves on commenting in public) .
blondie: I tried to avert a situation/problem when someone picked that herb. I suggested that it may make someone think twice about pickind the herb. This had been suggested and done by others in the past but I just brought it up to see if it might work. It may also not work but i thought it was worth a try rather than being upset. At the same time, there’s always other herbs as there can always be other solutions to issues people have.
Dreasimy: Thank you candidates! Next up we have a question from a listener, submitted anonymously :)
Darwishi: short and sweet answer is Yes I could be fair. To be open and “seen” to be fair, i would ask another DP to be involved also. More for how others would possibly see it. I would have no problem in raising any issues and/or doubts with other DP’s for thier opinion and advice.
Stevehotep: I believe that everyone deserves to be dealt with in a fair fashion, whatever has happened before and I would deal with any issue raised with that level of fairness. If a “conflict of interests” were likely to come into play I would consult with other DPs who I know are not involved in that situation and take it to a “Senate” situation rather than try and handle it alone
blondie: I think I would try to be as fair as possible when a conflict arose because that’s what I normally try to do. I have stopped myself, many times from sending a chat because i don’t think it’s resolving an issue.
blondie: Generally, when i feel something is a little too close to me, I speak with my friends and I do look into what other people say (whether I agree with them or not) to get an idea of what could be fair and if there’s a chance i’m missing something someone said or i’m not understanding an issue.
blondie: As a dp, I would carry that over to asking other dp’s what they thought about the conflict and figure out what would resolve the conflict. IF it comes to best handle the situation by someone one, I can understand and I would step away if it were needed.
Dreasimy: Thank you candidates and anonymous listener :D Next is another listener question submitted by Ephemere
Darwishi: I am not sure how that would work, maybe if the DP’s could be “voted out” they could participate in the qualifying rounds. If they needed to requalify, in some cases it could possibly be the same DP’s getting re-elected.
Darwishi: 2. yes i feel the Dp should be able to have an opinion on the candidates, but not use his position as a DP to actively support those candiudates.
Darwishi: as you said Ephemere, the elected DP is a player, and should be able to support others, but as a player, not as a DP.
Dreasimy: While we wait for blondie, Id like to start wrapping this up in 30 minutes, so if you have a question you were going to ask, now is the time. Submit it directly to E! or chat it privately to me, thank you!
blondie: Yes, Ephemere, 1) I think they should because they have been elected to the position of DP in the trust that they have good judgement. 2) Even if that dp does favor one candidate over others he or she should not hold public campaigns for one. That could be viewed as an unfair advantage to the other candidates.
Dreasimy: What do you think of past DPs who no longer play but promised to be here through the end of the telling?
Stevehotep: I can’t say I know of any, without checking. But I will say that we can all make promises that we can’t always keep for one reason or another. There may well be a very reasonable answer as to why they are no longer here. That thing we call “rl” does have a habit of over-riding our plans here. I don’t wish to make any critical comments about a particular situation that I know nothing about. I think we have plenty of DPs who ARE still here, and trying their hardest for Egypt, just as myself and my fellow candidates would do
DustiTwister: Sometimes real life throws curves.
Darwishi: I think that at the point of them making that statement, they truly believed they would be here. Unfortunately, real life is always throwing the curved ball.
Darwishi: Without knowing the facts of why each person left, it makes it difficult to comment on what I think of them. Every occurance would need to be assessed on its own individual circumstances.
blondie: Unfortunately, RL happens and you never know what is going with people on the other side of the computer screen. It it sad when you see players you voted for go and not come back. I miss those players and hope that, at the least, we have the chance to elect other dp’s that will remain active in the game.
Darwishi: during this slight interlude, i would like to take this opportuntiy to thank Dreasimy for an awsome debate chairperson !!!
Dreasimy: aww shucks
Dreasimy: we have another anonymous question!
Dreasimy: Firstly describe yourself in five words ONLY and second describe your fellow Egyptians in five words ONLY. I would like a degree of brevity
Orrin: (seconds that)
DustiTwister: Giving, Generous, Honest, Sincere, Caring = Myself, Fellow Egyptians= Competitive, Caring, Helpful, Exciting, Challenging =)
Stevehotep: Myself in 5 words:- A man for the people My fellow egyptians in 5 words:- Worth the effort, every time
Darwishi: me - mature fun(ny) honest tolerant happy
Darwishi: egyptians - always clicking the mouse button (5 words)
blondie: Me: Talkative, Helpful, Honest, Reliable, Fun :)
blondie: Fellow Egyptians: Helpful, Inquisitive, Quirky, Fun, Hardworking
Khaemwaset: **interludes with an appalling attempt at bellydancing :X*
Darwishi: put it away khaem :P
Orrin: Vote Steve: The only guy that can string 2 sentences together in 5 minutes!
SpicyXX: eeew cover it up Khae hehe
DustiTwister: You didn’t specify sentences, it said “words” =P
Darwishi: lol orrin..that was copy and paste !!!
Dreasimy: Since the new shard was released, would your friends say your playtime on this shard has increased, decreased, or stayed the same?
Orrin: I didnt specify anything!
Khaemwaset: Shut up Orrin! xx i do still have that pink tutu somewhere? would you like me to wear that SpicyXX
Dreasimy: Listeners please let’s keep the randomness down to a minimum so we can end the debate and release E! back to normal use :)
DustiTwister: my playtime has increased, mostly because I didn’t go to the other shard and my doctors appointments have ceased. =)
Stevehotep: My friends, and everyone else, would say my playtime on this shard has been steady, because I have had no desire at all to even visit the “other shard”. My Egyptian life is here, and will remain so for the forseeable future, it’s that simple
blondie: My friends would say: my playtime hasn’t changed much.... I’m still here a lot of the time, just take time to get a nap or grab a drink.
Darwishi: good question, but you would need to ask my freinds (looks around for any)....i would guess that they would say it has stayed the same.
Dreasimy: I’ve received another anonymous question: What irritates each candidate the most in egypt as it currently is.
DustiTwister: What irritates me the most in Egypt is the fact that many players are leaving without more tests being released. I am heartbroken at the rate of all the players leaving.
DustiTwister: I have tried to encourage other things to do so they linger longer, sometimes it works, sometimes it does not. I just hope ultimately we get those tests released to keep players.
Darwishi: the answer to that has to be .......
Darwishi: drum roll........
Darwishi: ORRIN !!!
Darwishi: only joking Orrin, ty for the bouquet, i mean bulbs
Darwishi: so i can have 2 irritants, it has to be the rate of test releases.
Orrin: Mate, you have no idea what I’ve been up to ;D
blondie: As usual, i have a voodoo doll that I want to make for Teppy. I would love for people to remain in the game or to come back to it because there are new tests going on. I hate to see people leave but it gets harder and harder to expect people to stay when they are bored and feel they have done as much as they can with what teppy has provided.
Dreasimy: I’d like to try to start wrapping it up :) Been about 2 hours. Candidates, can you please summarize your final thoughts? Anything you think we’ve missed? What should Egypt be considering when they go to punch their ballot, so to speak :)
Darwishi: as an obvious comment, allEgyptians should vote for the individual they think will do the best job of being a Demi-Pharoah.
My real life experiences as a youth worker also contribute to the skills, knowledge and understanding which I feel make me an ideal candidate for the role of Demi Pharoah.
blondie: I think all the current dp candidates are great choices for dp. All work with the community and love Egypt dearly. All bring their uniqueness to a game full of variety (as that is “the spice of life”).
blondie: I wish luck to all here but I take being part of the Egyptwide election seriously and I am here because I would love to be DP. So I am biased in telling peopole that they should vote for me.
blondie: I hope my actions and words speak for themselves and that I am allowed to take another role in the game. I would do it justice to the best of my ability. Thank you.
Orrin: You callin me a kid Darwishi!?
Dreasimy: Important question for candidates:
Rabble: Where are all the Spiderling mushrooms?
DustiTwister: the same place as the Golden Sun, they are out having a new brood.
blondie: in your pocket? ;p
Stevehotep: They are here, somewhere, mocking as an otter would....but they are here :)
