GROUP 1 (Set, Orishas, AdrianConrad, Tobel, Snicker) Log:

Issues

Activity

Tobel: So what about availability? How is everyone on available time for ATITD? While I don't think it should become all consuming, I believe a DP should be someone who is able to devote a fair average to the game. Also, what about previous tellings? Any quitting early?
Orishas: I played a bit in tale 1/2, but as a 'second game' (I was playing another MMO at the time in each case); I'm no longer doing that -- this is my only MMO and I have a lot of time to spend on it. I plan to stay through to endgame
Orishas: what about everyone else? :)
Tobel: I started playing early/mid T2 and T3 for a few weeks but had to leave both times due to deployments in Iraq and no internet there. I played T4 from Day 1 but really overdid it and got burned out way too fast. My activity tapered off after that. Since this start I've been taking it at a much better pace instead of going nuts (its a long telling I hear ;) ). I attend college in the morning and work part time in the midday/afternoon. Most of my evenings and weekends I'm on ATITD.
Set: Well I play everyday, I expect that to continue, even if I can't play a significant portion on a particular day I make an effort to check in for chats the require attention, just in case. In other tales I've never gone missing, even when the game ground to a halt content-wise, I always find something to occupy myself. I am well-aware of the DP curse that seems to happen to many, soon after getting elected they magically become disinterested, I can't imagine that happening to me honestly
Set: I make an effort to not get burnt out, my strategy for that is doing what I like and not doing what I don't like, I recommend it highly :)
Snicker: I have no life. No wife. No kids. And I just got my girlfriend playing ;)

Older chat below before we decided to do it by issue/opinion----

AdrianCondrad: Greetings Candidates :)
Orishas: Greetings
Orishas: I guess I'll start things by asking a simple question: Why do you think you should move on?
AdrianConrad: While I have my own opinions on a lot of the difficult topics that come up these days, I can take a neutral point of view when necessary to see the game from multiple points of view
. AdrianConrad: A lot of people don't like other people's playstyles that don't line up with their own, and get upset when things don't go their way.
AdrianConrad: I think it's important for a DP to be able to put their personal feelings aside to consider the involved parties at hand, as well as the inhabitants of Egypt as a whole.
AdrianConrad: Wouldn't you agree
Orishas: Actually, yes - I think a DP should not huge ties to one faction or another and be able to see from the perspective of a casual player, a serious, player, a beginning player and a veteran.
AdrianConrad: Yes, there are many players of all types in this game, and we need to make sure all are considered in our judgements.
Orishas: For example, a founder or officer of a build regional guild would have a lot of support for DP
Orishas: but it may be a conflict of interest
Orishas: *big
Orishas: Well I think I can keep that impartiality as well. I'm in a very small guild (13 rock) as my home and I've joined the stillwater regional guild as a communication tool. Apart from that I don't have ties and would be happy to step in for a wide variety of situations.
AdrianConrad: Orishas is team player as well; when we were both headed out to build towers his first ideas was for us to organize and work together, instead of blindly competing. He even continued helping me out after he passed. That's the kind of help I expect from guildmates, but not usually random guys on the road :)

Orishas: Morning Tobel; why do you think you should be the one to move on?
Tobel: Be with you in a moment
Tobel: I don't have the experience of ATITD that a lot of other candidates will have, I'll say that up front. However, I do have a great deal of maturity and intelligence that I believe can benefit the people of Egypt that mediation and being the voice of the people. I'm 26, spent a few years as active duty military , so I have some well-honed ideas about what leadership should be.
Tobel: what about yourself?
Orishas: Like yourself- I don't have a huge amount of experience in ATITD. I played in a bit in tale 1 and 2, so I understand the game but I don't have the background and past ties of the most recent tales. In a way I think this is advantage it is a fresh tale with fresh faces. I believe I can be impartial in disputes, I don't have any big guild ties. I also feel I have a great deal of maturity and intelligence; I've dealt with getting people to work together and resolve disputes as a large of m
Orishas: my job as a manager a hotel. I've been a casual gamer, a serious gamer, a hardcore gamer, an uninformed player - I believe I see from the perspective any most playstyles
Orishas: I also am very active right now in this game, and would continue to be; I think its important the DP candidate keep this in mind and dedicate some of their time to their new role.
Tobel: Aye. I' had a discussion last round with someone who was unhappy that they felt DP was a popularity contest. In a way it is. I believe you -have- to get your name out there, at least in DP chat. Not just yammering away, but if you aren't online enough to inform everyone of your ideas, I don't believe they will be able to cast a favourable vote.
Tobel: I have to wrap up here in a few minutes, work is calling. I don't suppose your hotel is in Knoxville, TN and you need new part time help, eh? :)
Orishas: lol
Orishas: California Im afraid
Tobel: Doubt I could do much then... perhaps some remote technical support.
Orishas: revenue manager! Deal with our online channels
Orishas: anyway, don't want to spam the chat ;) We'll continue later
Tobel: I could handle it :D Talk to you later
Tobel: I'm going to try to copy this to a wiki paage like I did last round. Tedious but helpful for those that miss chat. I'll post the link later.
Orishas: I'll help- starting now
Set: Morning all :)
Snicker: Good morning / afternoon, Set
Orishas: morning
Snicker: It looks like this is a very good group of active D-P candidates. My last round was mostly people who wanted a free level ;)
Snicker: And I think I know most of the names in this round: Tobel, Set, Orishas. I've seen AdrianConrad around..
Orishas: I put a log up on the wiki so we don't miss anything from character limites. Feel free to edit or change LINK
Orishas: I don't know much about editing wikis :)
Snicker: I'm a wikinerd ;)
Set: So the question from Orishas that scrolled off to all of us was, why do you think we should move on? I'm a reasonable guy, I do see things from a variety of perspectives and am able to maintain a calm head when those around me have elevated to a heightened emotional state. I don't mind stepping in to be an empathetic ear (this calming a decent amount of problems in and of itself) or to negotiate mediation on behalf of upset parties.
Set: Orishas if you put that link on a seperate chat line it will be clickable for us
Orishas: LINK
Orishas: hmmm
Snicker: I'm going to move the page, Set - it should be under the test of the kingmaker, not the principles
Orishas: oops
2 days 10 hours left in this Demi-Pharoah round.
Snicker: nah- it's cool ;) I'm the wikinerd, not you.
Set: Technically DP is about choosing a DP the test of the Kingmaker is tangential to the real goal we *should* be focusing on, picking people and who would make good DPs
Set: there are those who disagree though, and would say that this is all about the test of the Kingmaker and how they vote is only governed by what vote will help them pas that test, which includes attempting to deadlock rounds their candidate isn't in.
Set: how do you all feel about that, should our rounds be about electing the best DP candidates or should it be about getting ahead in Kingmaker
Orishas: Well I definitely disagree with it being about passing the test
Orishas: its about the best candidate passing
Snicker: LINK
Snicker: I would much rather have a good candidate than pass the test
Set: You do not have to sign up for the test of the kingmaker to participate in DP rounds by the way, thus why I feel that putting the page under the kingmaker test page is misleading and perpetrating that misconception (I'll admit the argument Im making is a little semantic)
Orishas: I'll certainly vote for my candidate if they make it to the election, but thats because I think I chose a good candidate to begin with.
Orishas: Unless of course they are competing against me ;)
Snicker: No, but the people participating in the Demi-pharoah chat are in this test
Set: No
Set: You do not have to sign up for Kingmaker to sign up for DP
Orishas: The test is related to the election so I think its a find place to find it on the wiki
Set: Like I said it's semantic, Kingmaker does depend on DO but not the other way around
Snicker: weird - is D-P level gated, then? Because I didn't have the option to sign up the first few times I checked the voting booth
Set: We'd still have DP elections without Kingmaker
Set: I believe it was always level 4 as Kingmaker is now
Snicker: Ah, thanks, Set =) This is my first tale since eartly t1. I played in Beta, helped Teppy with some of the early game concepts.
Snicker: Real life got in the way, though
Set: Pesky rl
Orishas: so snicker - I guess I asked this question to everyone
Snicker: So... why should I be the Demi-Pharoah? Well, like others, I have experience - as a gamer. I've played, or beta-tested, nearly every MMO out there, and recognize that ATiTD is nothing like any other game out there.
Orishas: Why do you think you should be the one to move on?
Snicker: ;)
Orishas: haha
Orishas: timing
Snicker: indeed
Snicker: I've got the real-world leadership experience, as a former manager of a 40-person IT helpdesk, and current submanager for the IT helpdesk of the largest transportation company in the United States (they say the world, but now sure I believe that ;))
Snicker: and fyi, submanager's not a real title, its just easier than saying "guy with no title who does all the dirty work"
Snicker: I do all the management that the managers are supposed to be doing, but don't have time to do because the customer is too busy nitpicking every little detail.
Snicker: I've also been a leader in a medival LARP, as Regent of the Kingdom of the wetlands in a medieval fantasy game called Amtgard. Twice, in fact. And much like here, it tends to be a popularity contest
Snicker: Still, I'd like to think I wont it based on my qualifications, as I did exceed the requirements for eligibility and didn't quit halfway like most do.
Snicker: and that brings me to my biggest asset: Determination
Snicker: While I don't have a lot of associations here in ATiTD, I don't believe you need to be in every guild to contribute - but you do need to have the determination to stick it out until the very end.
Snicker: This is even more important for the D-P due to their leadership and special abilities.
Set: What makes this tale different snicker, you said before you couldn't play since beta due to real life, has something changed and you hvae more time now?
Snicker: Yeah- I'm not an actual manager now. No wife, no kids.
Snicker: I'm not on-call, so I pretty much work my shift and that's it
Snicker: When I'm not working, I'm usually only, which is probably why I have a migraine this week ;)
Snicker: ^^ Usually online.
Snicker: I have lifetime subscriptions to LOTRO, and Star Trek Online, but when my girlfriend expressed an interest in playing ATiTD, I put those aside so that I could focus on playing with her here.

          • This log seems a bit much to keep up with an active group (which is a good thing) Perhaps we'll just have our own section with answers to common questions**
