This is a summary of litmus tests I've done on essential compounds with a view toward parsing out the Essence stats.
The litmus results are:
- Maroon -11 to -15
- Red -6 to -10
- Pink -1 to -5
- White 0
- LtBlue 1 to 5
- Blue 6 to 10
- Indigo 11 to 15
Deductions
For the purposes of deductions, Ar(Anaxi) refers to the Aromatic attribute of Anaxi Essence, and in the same vein As(X) Bi(X) Sa(X) So(X) Sp(X) Sp(X) Sw(X) To(X)
Here are the list of things we can prove or guess from the Essential Compounds we've seen. The list of values in the header indicates values for which we have a sample essence.
Aromatic (+3, +1, 0, -1, -2, -3)
- 59 v 64: Ar(Elephantia) = -3, Ar(Delta) = +3
- 59 v 65: Ar(Delta) > Ar(GiantCrickle)
- 19 v 61: Ar(GiantCrickle) > Ar(Anaxi)
- 40 v 57: Ar(Anaxi) = Ar(Bluebottle)
- 40 v 58: Ar(Anaxi) > Ar(Butterleaf)
- 3 v 4: Ar(Butterleaf) > Ar(Broadleaf)
- 19 v 23: Ar(Broadleaf) = Ar(Buckler)
- 59 v 63: Ar(Buckler) > Ar(Elephantia)
- So we have Ar(Delta) > Ar(GiantCrickle) > Ar(Anaxi) > Ar(Butterleaf) > Ar(Broadleaf,Buckler) > Ar(Elephantia)
- This solves to Ar(Delta) = +3, Ar(GiantCrickle) = +1, Ar(Anaxi) = 0, Ar(Butterleaf) = -1, Ar(Broadleaf,Buckler) = -2, Ar(Elephantia) = -3
- From other ECs we get Ar(Bluebottle, Bramble) = 0, Ar(Common Rosemary, Common Basil) = -1
Astringency (+3,-3)
- Compare 28,29: As(Chakkanut) << As(MiniatureFern). In fact, to get this swing from Red to White, As(Chakkanut) = -3 and As(MiniatureFern) = +3
- From 30: As(CoconutPalm) = +3
Saltiness (+3, +1, 0, -3)
- Compare 12,16,17,18,27,28,29,30,33,34: Sa(Anaxi,Delta,Bluebottle,Buckler,Bramble,Chakkanut,MiniatureFern,Elephantia,GiantCricklewood) are all equal.
- We'll assume these are 0, because they are extremely common.
- From 19: Sa(CRosemary) < 0
- Compare 3,12: Sa(CBasil) > 0
- Compare1,12: Sa(Broadleaf) > Sa(CBasil)
- From 31: Sa(FernPalm) < 0
- From 32: Sa(FernPalm ) = -Sa(CBasil)

Spiciness (+2, +1, 0, -1)
- Compare 12,16: Sp(Anaxi) > Sp(Delta)
- Compare 11,12: Sp(Buckler) = Sp(CBasil)
- Compare 12,13: Sp(CBasil) = Sp(CRosemary)
- Compare 1,12: Sp(CBasil) > Sp(Broadleaf)
- Compare 10,12: Sp(CBasil) > Sp(Bluebottle)
- Compare 24,25: Sp(Bluebottle) = Sp(Broadleaf)
- Compare 12,26: Sp(Buckler) = Sp(Butterleaf)
- So we have Sp(Anaxi) > Sp(Delta) > Sp(CBasil, Buckler, CRosemary, Butterleaf) > Sp(Broadleaf,Bluebottle)
- From 1 we have Sp(Anaxi + Bluebottle + Buckler + CBasil + CRosemary) > 0. If Buckler, CBasil and CRosemary were <0, this would be impossible.
- From 24 we have Sp(Delta + Bluebottle + Buckler + CBasil + CRosemary) = 0. If Buckler etc. were >0, this would be impossible.
- Therefore, Sp(Buckler, CBasil, CRosemary, Butterleaf) = 0
- From 12 we have a total of 0. Sp(CRosemary and Buckler) are 0. Sp(Anaxi) is >= 2, Sp(Bluebottle) = Sp(Broadleaf), and they are < 0. So Sp(Anaxi) = +2 and Sp(Bluebottle, Broadleaf) = -1
- Since Sp(Anaxi) > Sp(Delta) > 0, Sp(Delta) = +1
- From 1, 6, 7: Sp(Bramble) = 0
Sweetness (+2, +1. 0, -1, -2, -3)
- Compare 1 and 2. Sw(Anaxi) < Sw(BrambleHedge)
- Compare 1 and 6,7,8,9. Sw(Bramblehedge) < {Sw(Bluebottle), Sw(Buckler), Sw(CommonBasil), Sw(CommonRosemary)} So Sw(Bramble) < 0 and Sw(Anaxi) < -1
- Compare 12 and 16. Sw(DeltaPalm) < Sw(Anaxi). So Sw(Delta) is -3, Sw(Anaxi) is -2, Sw(BrambleHedge) is -1.
- Compare 1, 10, 12, 13. Sw(Broadleaf) = Sw(Bluebottle) = Sw(CommonBasil) = Sw(CommonRosemary). So these are all 0.
- In order for 1 to be White, with three essences at 0, Sw(Anaxi) = -1 * Sw(BucklerLeaf), so Sw(BucklerLeaf) = +2
- Also, Buttlerleaf and Chakkanut are sweeter than Anaxi, so -1 or better
- 22: Sw2(Butter) = 0
- 32: Sw(FernPalm) = 0
- 50: Sw(Elephantia) = +1
Toxic (+3, +2, +1, 0, -1, -2, -3)
- Compare 32,39: To(Bluebottle) < To(Anaxi)
- Compare 1,24: To(Anaxi) < To(Delta)
- Compare 3,24: To(Delta) < To(Broadleaf)
- Compare 16,24: To(Broadleaf) < To(CBasil)
- Compare 31,32: To(CBasil) < To(Buckler)
- This gives, in decreasing order: Buckler, CBasil, Broadleaf, Delta, Anaxi, Bluebottle.
- Because we already have a -2 value for Anaxi, it must be -1, giving: To(Buckler) = +3; To(CBasil) = +2; To(Broadleaf) = +1; To(Delta) = 0; To(Anaxi) = -1
- From 20, we get To(Bluebottle) = -3
- From 24, we get To(CRosemary) = -2
