-- I have some earlier chat with YendorHut, MrFubar, and nezbia, but I'm holding off posting it until the others have OK'd the post (it's not that much) --
+
Yendorhut: LOL - that is so cool

+
MrFubar: what do you do in the hotel? if i may ask?

Arame: Howdy there, all

+
nezbia: It was... they said i was the first to be at a meet and just join the game! lol

nezbia: Hello Arame!

+
nezbia: Security

Arame: Catching up on some of the chat so far - with everyone's consent, I'll start logging that as well, so we don't lose any to the foul scroll-away.

+
MrFubar: ow may :p

Arame: For the record, I've probably got the strongest name recognition, but that doesn't necessarily make me the strongest leader, to MrFubar's comment. Burying my head in spreadsheets for a week or two doesn't necessarily qualify as leadership ;)

+
MrFubar: my*

nezbia: Lol... understood :)

Arame: I also didn't catch who else is in this round - scrolled away from me!

nezbia: Umm... i know one is nunzia

Arame: Thank ya - I'm sure the others will pop in later today as well, so we'll find out soon enough.

nezbia: Most I don't know but have seen around on an occasion

nezbia: Yes, I feel a little intimidated because I am the newest person here :)

Arame: I definitely recognize a couple of the names from E! or from around Egypt, yes.

nezbia: this is my first tale... and the shortest time in egypt compared you ya'll! ;)

Arame: Eh, don't be too intimidated. Name recognitiion is helpful for the final election, but not necessarily the end-all be-all.

nezbia: I understand.... I guess I fear that this being a popularity test versus who is best for the position

Arame: Well, it partly is. There are going to be some people that will vote based on "Hey, I've heard of that guy, and not in a bad way." - but most people (I hope) are going to read the debates and choose the best candidate.

nezbia: Yes, I think you always have that... I am not in it for popularity... :)

Arame: All that said, I am running for this seriously (already passed KM).

nezbia: I could put out a campaign...

nezbia: but... they are words... I would rather show people how I am

nezbia: and I hope those that i do come in contact with.. have seen that

Arame: Yeah, that's always the difficult part, putting the how into words in these debates.

Arame: FYI - I'm just on lunch - I operate at GMT-4 right now.

Arame: So, would you like to talk about why we each want to be DP or feel that we'd be good for the role? I have a limited timeframe, but we can start that discussion, if you'd like.

nezbia: That is fine Arame

nezbia: I know for me... dp is a title

nezbia: I lead by example at all times

nezbia: I am honest, I don't judge and believe I am fair

Arame: All good qualities for a DP to have.

nezbia: As to why I want to be dp... I believe that as a leader .. they should be able to follow

nezbia: be open

nezbia: and most of all...

nezbia: have respect for t hemselves first... so they can better respect others

nezbia: I can say.. I have been in rl leadership roles...

nezbia: and to vote for me... but I want to gain the trust of the players in the group

nezbia: Show them.. I am not full of bull and would honestly do the best job possible! :)

nezbia: I am not well known... however, I am well liked :)

nezbia: Those who know me... they are the one's who encouraged me to run for dp

Arame: Great, that's a good sign!

nezbia: don't get me wrong.. :)

nezbia: I am the biggest sweetheart around... but i don't tolerate disrespect either

Arame: I'm always torn as to whether to go after DP myself - it's a lot of responsibility to take on, and part of my approach to Egypt is that it *is* a game.

nezbia: I have already come across someone in my guild that was kicked out for it...

nezbia: It is a game! :) and it is a big responsibility

Arame: But, because we're dealing with other RL people, there's more of a commitment than a "normal"? game.

nezbia: And yes.. knowing who to vote for... is a problem

nezbia: Yes I agree.

nezbia: What I find myself doing is asking those I know about the dp caniddates

nezbia: what do they know of them... what kind of person are they

Arame: Good approach to take, yes.

nezbia: I know anyone can say anything...

nezbia: but it doesn't always come from there heart

nezbia: For me.. I speak from the heart.. what you see is what you get :)

Arame: Right on! I'll admit, I have a cynicism filter on most of my chat - I am naturally cynical, but I keep it in check in chats & such.

Arame: (and you don't want to drive in a car with me, I'm loud & obnoxious, with the windows up!!)

nezbia: lol

nezbia: lol

Arame: As far as myself and DP is concerned, I see the DP as having a number of potential roles in Egypt - and I say potential, because not every DP will fit every role.

+
nezbia: Let me ask... do you all want the dp position?

nezbia: nod

+
MrFubar: Well im running but I easely vote for someone else. Depents on the situation

Arame: DP as leader - someone who organizes events and activities (Rabble is the best example of this in Egypt, I think).

+
Yendorhut: well, I'm actively running for the job - not because I want the power, I want to push this Idea:

Arame: DP as mediator - someone who helps to resolve conflicts. This usually tends to be more low-key.

+
Yendorhut: I want to create a Judical Council

nezbia: nod

+
MrFubar: I think Arame is the strongest leader in here? but we have to wait and hear is comments

Arame: DP as a figurehead - the title itself suggests a certain level of confidence Egypt-wide in the person, so their word might count for more in a discussion.

+
Yendorhut: the Council would be made up of a member from each region in Egypt

Arame: And DP as mentor - someone who really helps out new people, or helps people achieve goals that they might be struggling with.

+
nezbia: I got involved via the kingmaker test....

Arame: I'm leaving out DP as disciplinarian - I don't think it's a very valid role for the DP, even though the ban is what many focus on.

+
MrFubar: tell us more Y

nezbia: It is...

+
Yendorhut: So, when a DP wants to ban someone, the Council would meet and act as a jury to determine if the offence it bad enough

nezbia: I believe it does go deeper than that .. you are an expample of a true citizen

+
nezbia: I agree with that yen...

Arame: As far as my suitability - I'm a decent leader, although I keep it fairly localized. I organized a pilgrimage (with friends and with strangers-now-friends). I've organized a pyramid-build, but with a small group of people.

+
nezbia: I am a strong leader as well Mr.... I am just not well known in egypt like most are :)

Arame: With mentor, I'm probably better at helping established people than mentoring new people - I've helped a lot of people with resin for ovens, and I helped some of the early silk-farmers with mats for more farms (figuring the more the better). I give assistance to new people in regional when they ask, but I don't really go out of my way to chase mentoring opportunities.

+
Yendorhut: By Teppy's rules, we can not make the DP any less powerful, so the Council would only be an advisory, but any DP who does not meet their wishes would be in deep doo doo

nezbia: I do not have the background most of you all do, however, with me being new to the game.. it gives egypt a freshe pair of eyes! :)

+
nezbia: That would be good for sure...

Arame: Very true - and I only played a bit of T3, so I'm not *that* experienced with the game. I rely on my guildmates, frequently, to answer questions - especially about advanced techs.

+
nezbia: One thing I have learned by talking to people and reading up is....

nezbia: Part of being a leader is admitting you don't know all

+
Yendorhut: I don't think our current DPs have been abusive, but this adds one more element to the game that might spice things up a bit

nezbia: I will be the first person to ask for help or if I don't know to let someone know I don't know but i will get the answer for them

+
nezbia: Oh that it would

Arame: From a figurehead perspective, I think I've already got a certain "status" (probably not the right word I'm looking for), so that aspect wouldn't change much, I'd think.

+
nezbia: Being a dp is more than just having power... it is about being an example in game

nezbia: the only status i have here .. is i am the only person who met players before becoming one! :)

+
nezbia: respectful, fair, honest, willing to help and is able to lead by example

Arame: LOL

+
Yendorhut: well, the test is set up to see if someone can win the trust of the rest of the players

nezbia: I was at the meet in pgh... so I met a lot of them... :)

+
nezbia: Like I said... I am new to atitd... I have not been in other tales... so I am at a disadvantage here because I am not well known

nezbia: that was how I ended up here

+
Yendorhut: I know I could not ban someone without an impartial jury looking at the case and making a judgement

Arame: I saw that you were in the player meet guild! That's an advantage in and of itself :)

+
Yendorhut: well, DP is half vanity and half leadership

nezbia: Lol... they were just happy i didn't kick them out!! lol

+
Yendorhut: what we have to do is weed out the players who are in the race for vanity

nezbia: j/k

+
nezbia: I can say... to me... dp is a mere title...

Arame: lol

+
nezbia: I am not in it for the power... :)

nezbia: Naw.. they were a good bunch of people...

+
nezbia: or the control... :)

nezbia: I loved talking with them..

+
Yendorhut: hehe, but, you are here to help make a choice - and if you are the best choice, then we need to vote for you

Arame: How did you happen to go to the Meet?

+
nezbia: I am in it because I know that I would have the capability to be fair and can follow as well as lead

nezbia: It was at the hotel I work at..

+
Yendorhut: even if no one knows you, hehe

nezbia: I met a few who showed up before the meet started...

+
nezbia: I am.. :)

Arame: Ah, cool - that explains the "kick them out"! I'm slow today!

+
nezbia: I will work toward the good of egypt.... and if i find someone better qualified t han me...I have no problems voting for them

nezbia: then... ended up meeting them all! :)

+
Yendorhut: Well, anyway, we should let the others in this group have something to say too, but not everyone is on at the same time

nezbia: Yes.. I am security there! :)

+
nezbia: I know.. that is what happened in my last group...

Arame: Excellent. I used to do some bouncing on the weekends, but not sure that's even in the same ballpark.

+
Yendorhut: I don't think I talked "live" in the last two elections, hehe

nezbia: In a way... our job is to keep order.. :)

+
Yendorhut: well, have a good day - I have to get a few things done before I go to work in real life :(

Arame: Yepper - stop problems before they start!

+
nezbia: only 3 out the 7 of us talked last time... lol

nezbia: Exactly! :)

+
Yendorhut: it was nice meeting you - hopefully, we will get a few lines from the others over the next few days

Arame: The mediator role, though, to touch on that, is the toughest to prove out in-game. I imagine you do deal with that quite a bit through your job, though.

+
nezbia: Yes... it has been a pleasure yen! :) I hope the others do speak up

Arame: I'm a software engineer, so it's not actively a big part of my everyday life.

+
MrFubar: i will have to leave also soon, but we'll speak eachother later for sure ;)

Arame: I can only say that I'm good at balancing both sides and understanding different perspectives, especially in things like the obelisk queue.

+
nezbia: i am sure! :)

Arame: Sometimes you have to agree to disagree, but convincing others of that is where the real challenge comes into play.

+
nezbia: Been a pleasure everyone! ;)

Arame: (and if I had an easy answer for that one, I'd have used it already!!)

nezbia: conflict resolution is not for everyone

nezbia: I happen to be good at ... that is why i do what i do

Arame: Very nice

nezbia: I can diffuse almost any situation...

nezbia: and come to a resolution

nezbia: to where everyone is appeased

nezbia: but don't have a problme asking people to leave either! :)

Arame: LOL

Arame: I do want to hear a little more about the in-guild problem you mentioned earlier, and how you handled that situation. . . but, I need to get back to RL here.

nezbia: no problem.. I am sure I will catch you at some point of the next couple of days

Arame: Before I run off - do you mind if I log this chat where everyone else can get to it? Makes it a bit easier to communicate with everyone on different timezones, etc.

nezbia: That is fine... :) It has been a pleasure! :)

Arame: Pleasure's mine :)

Arame: I'll drop that @ User:Arame/TempChat (unless someone has a better spot for it). Feel free to /copy from here and add to it (please) when I'm not about.
