Server Improvements
From A Tale in the Desert

Known problems (comments and patches welcome!)
- Skins need work across the whole site (may hold a contest for this..)
- OpenID authentication should remember trust permissions rather than requiring frequent confirmation -- You can set your user preference to remember you and you won't be asked again.
- Wiki mapping doesn't work! (or it does, but requires only on real world maps..) -- We now have a highres map of tale 4, and you can set markers at the correct coordinates. Still working on the editor. (Hatnofret 00:08, 17 December 2008 (EST))
Suggestions
- enable file uploads, otherwise we're not going to be able to show any images! -- FIXED (Hatnofret, 12/14/2008)
- A bit more contrast in the colours would be nice, especially in the blue links in the top right and the pale grey in the left hand menu.
- I miss the category "Resources" in the left menu
- (Just FYI, in the T3 Wiki, Resources showed up in the Index page, not at the top level. But having it at the top level this time is a good idea.) -- FIXED (Hatnofret, 12/14/2008)
- Signing a 'post' with ~~~~ seems to use the EST timezone no matter what. Could this at least be changed to UTC (since it is converted to a string when an edit is submitted, it will of course just be one timezone for all)? ArmEagle 05:44, 15 December 2008 (EST)
Yes, its using the localtime on the server. I couldn't find any way to change that and I don't want the server to run in the wrong timezone to show UTC, it would affect all other timestamps too. (Hatnofret 20:52, 15 December 2008 (EST))- According to MediaWiki docs, we should be able to config variable $wgLocaltimezone[1]. That should affect macro substitution (like signatures) while other settings such as $wgLocalTZoffset can remain unchanged. I don't have a MediaWiki set up currently to test this. --Sola 10:58, 16 December 2008 (EST)
- Yes, thats the variable that defines in which timezone the server runs. Its set to EST, since thats where the server is. It defines for example how timestamps in Recent Changes show up. Thats why I don't want to set it to GMT. (Hatnofret 23:00, 16 December 2008 (EST))
