**Demonstrated by Saledo at the Seven Lakes University of Thought on February 19th 2012

Passing Principles
Complete and collect 3x Venery Certificates.
Show them to any School of Thought. (Note - last step does not seem to be necessary. I leveled up at Venery Gathering Point after getting third Venery Certificate - Estaar)

Creating a Venery
What you need
For Simple Lockboxes Made in the Student or Master Forges

* 7 Eyelet cut Amethyst
* 7 Eyelet cut Lapis
* 7 Eyelet cut Turquoise
* 7 Eyelet cut Garnet
* 7 Fine Glass Rods
* 7 Gold Wire
* 7 Copper
* 14 Small Gears

This will give you 7 Simple Lockboxes.

For Venery Gathering Point

* 1 Canvas
* 4 Rope

Then select Create Venery and add 100 Boards and 250 Papyrus Paper.

Installing Lockboxes
You need to select 'Configure This Venery' at the Venery gathering point before you start installing lockboxes. Then you can install keys and lockboxes anywhere you like.

Note - make sure that Options > Interface> Tests > "show menu items for venery configuration" is checked, or you will not get the option to install the Locboxes! - Minerva

Creating Clues
A venery should be fun to do. Many egyptians get frustrated with the very hard ones and will tend to quit the venery.
Make sure your clues are precise and not to hard to decipher.
Always keep in mind that people will be voting on this so if you want to pass it needs to be finely balanced between easy and hard.
Some people in previous tales built chests and placed rewards in them for others to collect. However you do it is up to you.
Some people will also have an answer sheet attached to their wiki page.
Remember Just Have Fun.

Designing
You have several areas to map. At the top left is your warehouse. This will hold extra blocks that could be used later in play. The top middle is your starting block(s). The open middle play-field is what transitions are allowed. Each section (boxes)>>(boxes) is a separate transition. The block color coding on the left can be turned into the color coding on the right.

Playing
The goal of playing an Empty Hand puzzle is to...well, empty your hand by removing all of the blocks. The game is composed of a system of rules which allow changing a particular pattern of blocks into other patterns of blocks. The ultimate goal is to play a rule that turns all of the blocks into 'nothing' by creating the pattern that allows the rule to be used.

For example, if the blocks are Red, Green, Blue and there is a rule to turn Green, Green, Blue into nothing, you would want to first play a rule that changes Red, Green into Green, Green. This would then create the appropriate condition to play the other rule, allowing you to win the puzzle.

This all becomes much more clear when you watch the animation of what's actually happening on the puzzle machine when you play the rules.
Beginner’s Guide to Solving an Empty Hand Puzzle
Pitaboo's Beginner’s Guide to Solving an Empty Hand Puzzle
(I myself am still a beginner at Empty Hand puzzles, but I thought I'd try writing a clearer explanation of the rules. If you see anything that needs changing, please feel free to edit. -Pitaboo)

Goal: to move the blocks (colored shapes) in the top row out of your hand by using the swap options shown in the swapping area.

Warehouse: The top line reads “Blocks in your Warehouse 0/0.” For the simple puzzles, this line may never change. In the more complicated puzzles, some swaps send blocks to your warehouse. You may use these blocks in later moves.

Hand: The next row is your hand. It consists of several blocks of different shapes and colors. These are the blocks you need to trade out, or empty, by using the given swap options in the large box below. To the left and right of the blocks are moving arrows. By clicking on these arrows, you can slide the blocks left or right to position your hand so you can match sections of your hand to the swap options below in the swap area.

Swap Area: This is the largest field on the play menu. It consists of several swapping options, arranged in a vaguely pyramid-type layout. Each option shows a set of blocks on the left of a Swap Button followed by a different set of blocks on the right. When you match part of your hand to the appropriate swap option (matching set of blocks to the left of the Swap Button) in the Swap Area, you may swap those blocks for the new option (new set of blocks to the right of the Swap Button). You will notice that by clicking the left and right arrow buttons in your hand, these swap options will either be brightly colored, indicating that they are possible swap options, or switch to a duller color, indicating that you cannot perform that swap.

Emptying Your Hand: At least one of the swap options should include an exchange that allows you to swap a set of blocks for no blocks. By repeatedly arranging your blocks so that you can use that swap, you will be able to empty your hand and claim a win.

Zhukuram's Hints and Not So Helpful Tips to Solving an Empty Hand Puzzle
These are really infuriating to solve. First the directions on solving are pitiful and unless you have some "experience" you don't even know how or where to begin. What follows is my own experience with these and some explainations about how I see what you have to do. Nothing scientific and I will expand as I figure it out more. YMMV Zhukuram 21:32, 2 January 2012 (EST)

1. In the top box is a list of blocks with << and >> on either side. the >> and << move the blocks left or right. These are the blocks you want to get rid of to "win"

2. Below the top box is a unside down V (or tree). Each side shows an "exchange" you can make. There are a maximum of 7 total exchanges. Some exchanges may be used more than once. Some exchanges are not used (red herrings). Sometimes you will need to make 10 or 20 exchanges to win.

3. The first exchange you want to find is the "winner" which is the one that shows blocks on one side (left) and no blocks on the other (right).

4. You want to use the exchanges to flip the blocks on the top to match the "winning exchange".

5. Active exchanges have a clicable 'swap' button. Unusable exchanges are not clickable. You move the top blocks with the << and >> arrows and find the active "swap button". Different swap buttons will become active as you move and swap the blocks.

6. Some puzzles have "blocks in the warehouse". These are used for exchanges where there are more blocks on the right than the left. So you might get 1 block "swap" for 2 blocks. The extra block comes from the warehouse. You can only make as many 1 for 2 exchanges as there are blocks in the warehouse.

7. When all the top blocks match the winning exchange(3) and you do the swap you win. There is a new clickable area in the window for claiming your win and you can now judge the puzzle by clicking on the puzzle itself.

Findas tipps to notation
You start with this Chart:

than you note down your moves like X1Y1; X2Y2; X3Y3; ... XiYi

so the move shown above is 35;

So you start noting down your moves you will less likely do the same mistake twice.

Claim your Rights as Initiate of Thought
Once your puzzle has been judged at least 'good' by 7 people you must claim your rights. Do this by clicking on your puzzle and then "Claim Principles Advancement."

XiYi

so the move shown above is 35;

So you start noting down your moves you will less likely do the same mistake twice.

Claim your Rights as Initiate of Thought

XiYi

so the move shown above is 35;

So you start noting down your moves you will less likely do the same mistake twice.

Claim your Rights as Initiate of Thought
Once your puzzle has been judged at least 'good' by 7 people you must claim your rights. Do this by clicking on your puzzle and then "Claim Principles Advancement."
A forge is a generic term for a Student's Forge or a Master's Forge. Forges run on Charcoal and are used to convert metal into various products. Using a forge requires the Blacksmithing skill. You must wait for an item to finish cooling before starting another item.

Upgrades
* A Nail Mould allows the crafting of Nails.
* 2 pinch rollers allow the crafting of metal Sheeting.
* An Extrusion Plate allows the crafting of metal Wire.

Charcoal Use
Student Forge : Requires 60 Charcoal to fire, burns 40 immediately once lit, 1 per minute thereafter. It can hold a maximum of 500 charcoal for 460 minutes of production.<br>
Master Forge : Requires 250 Charcoal to fire, burns 150 immediately once lit, 1 per minute thereafter.
More charcoal can be added while a forge is running.
