Overview
Raeli ovens are semi-automated structures used to manufacture Raeli Tiles. They can also be used to automatically dig for clay. They cannot be built within 50 coordinates (800 feet) of another Raeli oven.
Raeli ovens are built on patches of clay (from which the tiles are produced).
There are Public Raeli Ovens.
Source
Raeli ovens become available after learning the Raeli Pottery technology from the University of Art & Music.
Construction Costs
Initial Construction
- 3000 Clay Bricks for Main Chamber
- 500 Plaster for sealing
- 50 Copper Wire for Mechanism Tensioner
- 25 Moon Steel Sheeting
- 20 Small Gears for Drivetrain
- 20 Clay Steeped Wool Cloth for insulation
- 10 Bearings for Driveshaft
- 10 Cement for Platform
- 10 Cut Stone for Counterweight
- 10 Rope for Countertensioner
- 5 Crucibles for Collection Oven
- 5 Glass Pipes for Thermostatic Regulator
- 5 Medium Gears for Drivetrain Attachment Point
- 3 Iron Bars for Base Housing
- 3 Shovel Blades for Collector
- 2 Pinch Roller for Clay Crushing Mechanism
- 1 5000+ Quality Carpentry Blade
- 1777 Resin (Main Shaft Encasement)
- Built: outside, in a Small Construction Site placed on the correct terrain (clay).
Usage Costs
Each time you wish to burn the tiles into colours, you will need:
- 25 Charcoal
Upgrade: Clay Dredge
Raeli ovens can be upgraded to dredge clay instead of tiles. The option "Upgrade Oven with Clay Dredge" appears on the main oven menu provided you know Raeli Pottery and the oven isn't dredging or burning tiles.
To collect clay instead of tiles, requires:
Note - When dredging clay the oven will not gather tiles, you can dredge tiles or clay, not both! After the upgrade you can choose which you would like the oven to do. Clay appears to be gathered at roughly the same rate that tiles would be.
Resin Types
All the resin used must be of the same type for a particular oven (you can select one of the types you learned from an University of Art & Music when you start construction). Currently ovens may be built from:
- Hawthorn learned at Seven Lakes
- Spindle Tree learned at Eastern Grounds
- Locust Palm learned at Old Egypt
- Folded Birch learned at River Plains
- Pratyeka learned at Midland Valley
- Coconut Palm learned at Valley of Kings
- Butter Leaf Tree learned at Cat's Claw Ridge
Operation
Raeli ovens continually dredge clay from the ground, accumulating it as unbaked Raeli tiles. At any time the owner may start baking the accumulated tiles; this costs 25 Charcoal and halts the dredging process. All tiles must be baked together -- it is not possible to bake some tiles and leave the others unbaked. It is not possible to remove unbaked tiles from an oven.
The rate of dredging is redetermined each time dredging is started. The hidden1 Raeli Operation skill appears to affect dredging speed.
As the Raeli tiles bake, they gradually change color. All tiles begin as White and slowly cycle through a progressively darkening series of colors in 128 decrements that each vary from 10-120 seconds, ending up as Black after 6 hours of game time, or a bit more than 2 hours. The exact colors that tiles pass through on their transition from White to Black depends on where the Raeli oven was built.
The owner of the Raeli oven may interrupt the baking process at any time to stop the tiles at a particular color. Once tiles have stopped baking, they cannot be re-baked later to change their color. After halting the baking process, the Raeli oven can be restarted to dredge new tiles. Halting the baking process appears to contribute to increases in your Raeli Operation skill.
1 Raeli Operation skill was hidden prior to T4.
Pollution
Raeli Ovens produce soot when fired, in a 64x64 coordinate square, centered on the oven. In other words, the soot will extend up to 32 coords, in both X and Y, from the oven. High levels of soot can prevent such things as growing Flax, harvesting Fresh Leaves, and others.
Notes
- If you stand too close to another Raeli when attempting to use yours, you may get a message "Another Raeli interferes with the operation". To work around this apparent bug, just move to the opposite side from the interfering Raeli Oven.
- If you begin baking tiles (= stopping the raeli oven) before the first tile appears, no charcoal is used. So if you don't get a tile in the first two minutes, its probably a good idea to restart the oven for free.
- Restart an oven if it takes more than 7-8 minutes to get 2 tiles. 25 per Teppy hour is an exceptional rate.
- The Raeli Oven window updates on its own, so you don't have to click on it to see if the color has changed. Additionally, the color color swatch of the oven updates each decrement, even though the named color name stays the same. This is similar to how a paint color actually covers a range of RGB values in a pigment laboratory. You can take a screenshot, an hour or so into the run is best as 50% Luminance gives you the best definition, to determine the HSL vector thereby the nearest RGB values for the entire sequence.
- The HSL vector of an oven, and therefore the colors that it can produce, is determined where you build it. Where you stand, or the time of day, makes no difference.
- The timing is a bit erratic, however, so you'll see a variations of up to 5 game minutes for fleeting colors and up to 10% in the number of game minutes during which a long cycle color is produced. The timing is not locked to either game time nor real time, and it's not stepwise decremental. When taking snapshots every 20 seconds, to catch a sample every game minute, we've seen a fleeting colors that displayed for only 1 game minute on one run, but for a full 5 game minutes on a second run. See Raeli Science for some well documented baking runs, including repeated runs while standing in exactly the same spot.
- You must be within 3 coordinates of the oven to start a baking or dredging cycle.
- The color displayed on the oven's menu will only update if you are within about 8 coords of the oven.
- "Last used by" for a raeli ovens now appear to be working correctly.
Ownership Rights
Raeli ovens have special additional ownership layer This layer allows the owner to let other people use the oven, but then set the amount of the produce they will keep for themselves
So, if you set it to "Owner Keeps 10%", then the worker will get 90% of the output sent directly into their pockets, and the owner will keep 10% in the oven The default behavior is for the owner to keep everything
Now, as we know from the previous statements, normally to let a non-owner use a building you would set it to be used by "Anyone".
If you set an oven to be used by Anyone, then it overrides the "Non-owner Percentage", since by being usable by anyone, they would keep it all
So, to correctly setup an Oven to be baked and dredged by people other than the owner, you can do two things
- First, if you don't care about keeping any of the tiles for yourself, you can set it to be used by "Anyone"
- Second, if you want to keep some back for yourself, you would set the normal permissions to something other than "Anyone", and then set a Non-owner Percentage to something more than zero
