Flax seeds are the source of the all-important flax crop. They are planted using the Plant menu on grassy areas. There are different varieties of flax seeds which require different forms of cultivation. Flax seeds can be planted to produce more flax seeds or to produce flax. The latter requires weeding and for some varieties watering.
Different strains of flax seeds exist, each with its own set of characteristics. The two basic strains available are Old Egypt and Nile Green. Later, after Cross Breeding technology is discovered, players will be able to breed new and improved custom strains.
- Old Egypt flax must be weeded twice, and yields 1 flax per bed. No water is required.
- Nile Green flax must be watered once and weeded once. It yields 2 flax per bed.
Obtaining
Basic flax seeds (of either Old Egypt or Nile Green variety) are available upon request from any School of Art. The school will provide you with 3 free seeds. You can request more seeds after a wait of a few minutes.
In general, flax seeds are reproduced by planting a flax bed, then allowing it to go wild; it will then produce new seeds of the same strain which can be collected.
Known varieties
Variety | Flax | Rotten | Seeds | Weed | Water | Plantings/1k Any type |
Seedings/1k Any type |
Actions/1k Any type |
Plantings/1k Non-rotten |
Seedings/1k Non-rotten |
Actions/1k Non-rotten |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Old Egypt | 1 | 0 | 1 | 2 | 0 | 1000.0 | 1000.0 | 5400.0 | 1000.0 | 1000.0 | 5400.0 |
Nile Green | 2 | 0 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 500.0 | 500.0 | 2700.0 | 500.0 | 500.0 | 2700.0 |
Key:
- Weed: Number of "Weed this flax bed" actions needed per harvest. Lower is better.
- Water: Number of "Weed and water this flax bed" actions needed per harvest. Lower is better.
- Flax: Flax yield per flax bed. Higher is better.
- Rotten: Rotten flax yield per flax bed. Higher is better.
- Seeds: Number of seeds gathered per harvest of a wild flax bed. Higher is better.
- Plantings/1k: Number of flax beds needed to yield 1k flax (or rotten flax). Lower is better.
- Seedings/1k: Number of seed harvests needed to yield enough seeds to plant enough beds for 1k flax. Lower is better.
- Actions/1k: A rough estimate at the number of actions (planting, weed/water, harvest, seed collection) needed for 1k flax. Lower is better.
"Any type" columns includes both rotten and non-rotten flax. "Non-rotten" columns only counts non-rotten yield, e.g. for use in compound expansion.
See the discussion page for the exact script / calculation.
Uses
- Planted on grassy areas to grow Flax or more Flax Seeds
- Crushed in a Kitchen to produce oil
