Demi-Pharaoh results from 159 voters:

M: Bryce (64.63)
M: Stevehotep (39.57)
F: StarGazeR (24.09)

Debate between Bryce, StarGazeR, & Stevehotep from July 6th 2012

Dreasimy: The upcoming debate is actually going to be held on Worship Station (type /join Worship Station) and all Worship-y posts on Worship Station will be postponed for the duration of the debate. You can use L2PBS for your Worship related posts and any during-debate banter, peanut-gallery comments, and other announcements or discussion you may have during the debate.

Dreasimy: If you have questions that you would like to submit during the debate, just submit them to Worship Station or via Chat to Dreasimy but please note that comments, discussion, personal attacks, and redundant questions will be tabled or asked to be rephrased. Also, I will do my best to also reframe any candidate-specific questions so that all candidates can answer them (tho your original question will remain in tact for the person you specified.)

Dreasimy: Welcome to the 1 and only Debate in the 7h Election for Demi-Pharaoh of the 6th Tale of ATITD! For the duration of the debate normal Worship Station posts will be halted (you can use L2PBS for this purpose during this period) and only debate-appropriate posts will be let through. Our candidates for this debate are Bryce, StarGazeR, and Stevehotep!

Dreasimy: Let's jump in!

For those who have never had the opportunity to interact with you before can you share a little about yourself, what you enjoy about ATITD as well as how long you have been playing?

Stevehotep: Hi everyone! My name is Steve (funnily enough) and when I'm not in Egypt I'm in the UK, near London. I'm a very friendly guy and I get along with everyone around me. I work in IT and when I'm not doing that I'm a singer and musician. I've been playing this game since T4 and during that Tale I was a DP. I think the thing I enjoy most about this game is the amount of different things you can engage your brain in, from making complex gearboxes to breeding beetles. From Solving puzzles to just running around gathering herbs. Whatever mood you're in on any particular day there is something that you'll enjoy doing!

StarGazeR: Well let me start by saying Hiya! I have been playing since T3 I came to this game after TSO shut down and a friend asked me to play here . I stayed because of the poeple, I have never played a game where so many people were willing to hlep I love that everyone works together (for the most part) and I love that there is so much to learn and so many things to do

Bryce: About myself….In every other Tale, my name has been BryceCicada, decided to really confuse people this tale by dropping the Cicada, lol. : Difficult to pin down my favorite part of the game; I enjoy so many diff. things including Cross Breeding, most of the tests, and the various group activities. I think the openness of the game, where you can persue whatever you want to as long as you have the level for it is the best part of the game. I like the non-linear nature of this game. That and Interaction with the other players in the game are the best parts of the game. For me the hardest is Darkest Night…finding that last elusive couple of shrooms to complete your list…..

Bryce: My Resume…. Have played since Tale 2. Only played a short time in T5 as I had a lot going on R/L, including battling stage 3 colon cancer, and I'm happy to say I'm cancer free. Have attempted and passed pretty much every test in the game, was a DP on the Bastet Shard, and tend to be in a lot of guilds, working with others to accomplish goals, and yes, talk. I'm not usually the leader of the group, or one of the followers, I'm usually the consensus builder of the group. I have mentored countless players here, including some of the current DP's for this tale. I work well with others, r/l and here. In R/L I own a small business in the Financial/Insurance field, am on the board of directors for a local bank, am president of my neighborhood association board, and on the Parish Council for the Church I attend. have served on the board of directors for over 10 different organizations, including the local United Way, Red Cross, Chamber of Commerce, and Downtown Development Authority organizations. I would like to add that I am on a mediation board R/L that meets 2 - 3 times a month to mediate auto-related medical claim disputes ranging from a couple hundred $$ to amounts in the millions. I have very extensive mediation experience and I think that my combined game and R/L experiences would qualify me as an excellent DP.

If you win this election you will pass the test of the Demi-Pharaoh and be our 7th DP of this tale. There are a variety of points of view on what the role of DP should and shouldn't be, what is yours?

Bryce: I think the role of a DP is to help mediate disputes between players, to step in if necessary to prevent a player or players from violating the TOS and griefing other players. This is supposed to be a game, and a DP should help foster an environment where every Citizen can have fun here, and lead by example.

StarGazeR: Well really I think a DP should be there to help solve issues between players that they cant for what ever reason solve for them self. A DP should be fair and be able to look at both sides of the story

Stevehotep: It is widely regarded that a DP is "the one who can ban you" but I have to say this is something I have VERY rarely seen happen. It's more about resolving disputes between groups/players in a friendly manner that helps everyone return to a state of happiness in the game. It's not the role of a policeman (unless things get REAL bad) but one of a mediator, a helper, an ambassador of all that is good about Egypt, and there is much for us to be proud of here!

Casino: How do you see the role of a DP in reguards to helping ' new players '

Stevehotep: I see the role of DP not only as one who upholds the "law" but more importantly as an Ambassador for the game (as previously mentioned!). All too often in the past have I seen new players chatting on the Egypt-wide channel and being met with negative, pointless, bickering from older players. While every player has a right to their opinion, of course (and there ARE things about this game that could be improved on!), I feel we should be nurturing newer players, encouraging them on the positive sides of the game rather than just moaning about it. The population in regards to "older" players has dropped dramatically and the baton must pass to the new generation!

Bryce: I think it is EVERY person's responsibility to help mentor new players, because without new players, the game will eventually die. Teppy is not actively marketing this game, so it is up to us as an Egyptian Society to recruit, mentor, and encourage players, new and old. I personally have mentored countless fellow players since I started playing this game, and will continue to do so

StarGazeR: I think that we should all help new players even if we are not, but as far as a DP helping they should guide them and teach them things that you should or should not do to keep the game sweet for all players

How would you handle it, as DP, if you were involved in an interpersonal conflict with another player? How would you handle it if a close personal friend or guildmate made a complaint, or had a complaint made against, seeking your intervention as DP and possibly a ban?

Bryce: I've had some conflicts with other players over the extended time I've played here. It's impossible to avoid. In every case so far, I've been able to work out the conflicts with the other player(s) amicably, reaching consensus on how to proceed so there is a win/win for everyone involved. With the exception of a person like Geodude, I think I should be able to handle the situation myself, as I have in the past. If I was unable to, I would discuss the situation in the DP guild with the other DP's, and reach a consensus together on what the next step should be.

Stevehotep: I think it is vitally important if you are a DP and a friend is involved in the dispute at hand, to call upon other DPs to assist, or possibly even take over that dispute. We cannot be seen to have a conflict of interest in anything and certainly not to be seen to be helping friends using our "powers". The DP has a responsibilty to everyone in Egypt....that comes before personal friendships as it should do. As for the DP being involved in a dispute themselves, well, same rule applies. You must make it well known that your position as a DP is put to one side for the duration of that dispute and one of the other, very capable, DPs will be handling it.

StarGazeR: If I were DP and was involved in a conflict I would have to give it to another DP, but it would not look fair for me to mediate where I am involed in the issue

StarGazeR: as far as a friend being involved I would still be able to look at both sides but maybe since it was a firend I would ask for input from other DP and non DP players

Casino: Is the role of a DP always just about the ' right ' to Ban or is there more to this office?

Stevehotep: The "right to ban" is the least of the role in my opinion.....as I said earlier, it's about helping people any way you can, and where there IS dispute, to resolve it in a friendly manner rather than waving the ban-stick around. If one player is acting in a completely unreasonable manner and griefing people, the threat of a ban is, 9 times out of 10, sufficient to resolve that! But let me reiterate, once again, banning is something that is VERY rare

Bryce: I think the "ban stick" issue is way overstated, i look at the role of a DP is someone that can mediate disputes, reach a consensus among players, and leads by example.

StarGazeR: No, I think the role of a DP is to lead by example (as with all mentor roles) yes you have the power to ban but that is not to say you should use it in every instance. I think a DP should try there best to keep everyone ingame and playing and try to keep things fair

Sounds like you all agree bans are last resorts. But under what types of circumstances do you believe DP’s should use permanent bans? If you are versed in ATITD lore, feel free to give an example from a previous tale where you agreed or disagreed with a ban, if you can’t give examples from the past feel free to just discuss the merits of certain situations (hypothetical or otherwise) over others.

Bryce: Geodude comes to mind for an obvious ban. But, with the new "Geodude" law where Egypt as a whole can vote on whether to ban a player or not gives the DP an alternative to the ban or not ban question.

StarGazeR: Well Geodude of course, But anywhere a player is just making it impossible for other players to grow as a player or want to be in the game. there have been issues in the past where people have blown up camps and chriots or deleted public mics (still dont know how that happened) those I think would also be good reasons to ban someone but only after some deliberation

Stevehotep: When I was a DP back in T4, there was a situation where some people built a guild up from nothing, including many Raeli ovens. Another player later joined that guild and was, at some point made an Elder along with others. When the "founder" quit, that player immediately took all ovens into her own posession, thus preventing the other people who had BUILT the ovens, from using them. She also demoted them, leaving herself as the only Elder. We tried to mediate nicely, we asked for both sides of the story, we asked her to return the ovens to Guild use but she refused. We still spent some weeks trying to resolve it without a ban but at some point she and her friends blew up the Egypt mic, and a Chariot Stop. After this we had no choice but to ban. But as you can see, we tried VERY hard not to.

Under what circumstances would you consider utilizing the tools created by the Anti-Griefer's Act (AGA) law (what some of you called the Geodude Law)? In other words, what do you consider 'griefing'? Do you feel it has been used well so far?

StarGazeR: I think greefing is any time a player is making it impossible for other players to grow in game or want to be in game. I think that when the AGA was used for Geodude and his alts it was used well because he was avoding ban and that was the only way to get him out of game and help the players he was greefing. After that im not so sure I agree with putting Teppy on the ballot

Bryce: I think the AGA law has been used well so far. I would consider it step 3 in the process. Step 1 would be to ask the player(s) in question to stop their greifing activity. (I.E. filling an area with bonfires, woodplanes, apiaries, etc. designed to hurt another player). Step 2 would be education on what was and wasn't acceptable by the norms of our society. step 3 would be the AGA.

Stevehotep: My definitions of griefing are:- Being generally unpleasant to people in a personal way that makes their lives here miserable, racism, any other forms of prejudice. Those sorts of things should be brought into the public domain so that people can see what is happning. I don't believe anyone in Egypt would condone such behaviour and peer-pressure is sometimes the best punishment for such things. Of course, stealing property and using explosives in inappropriate ways are also griefing.

If a person were submitted as a griefer under the AGA, and egypt voted AGAINST banning them, but you still felt they should be banned, under what circumstances would you consider banning that person or resubmitting them under the AGA to a ballot.

Stevehotep: This is a democracy and if the greater populace of Egypt voted that way then usually it should stand. Unless of course they didn't know all the facts and those facts would then need to be presented to them as part of a resubmission

Bryce: If a majority of people here deem their actions to be within the acceptable behaviour of game play, then i would not ban them. However, if they escalated their behavour, acted in a way that violated the TOS, and/or started griefing in a new way, i would put them back on the AGA ballot, and/or consider banning them.

StarGazeR: I dont think that I would resubmit them, If I already had once then I should give that issue to another DP and let them decied if they should go on ballot again or not. I would not ban them if Egypt had voted against them. I would have to go with the side of the people who voted for me as DP in thr first place

Does anyone have access to login to your account? (ie, would any person other than yourself ever have access to your ban powers)? Note: spouselog does not allow access to ban powers.

Stevehotep: No-one but no-one has access to my account. Never have, never will!

Bryce: no one, in the past, present, or future has, or will have, access to my account.

StarGazeR: Yes someone has access to my account, someone I trust enough to have access to my billing info so I would say I also trust them to use my account as I would if they were logged as me. I should say that they only log as me to help me (I am thankful that they do so) I will also say that If there ever was a need I could change my password

GHawkins: Question for the candidates: We currently have five DPs from prior elections who remain active in the game. What will you bring to the DP position to fill any gap that you percieve exists among the current DPs? Is there even a gap to fill?

Stevehotep: Thankfully there have been very few disputes during this tale, but I can say that I will bring an enthusiasm to the table and also I'm able to play very regularly so I'd always be on hand if a problem arose. But on the whole I would say I think the DPs so far this tale have done an awesome job and are extremely helpful so, no, there is no gap to fill. I think Egypt has chosen it's DPs very well!!! ;-)

Bryce: I think my resume speaks for itself in my qualifications as a DP. I would not be better than any current DP's, I just have a LOT of experience in dealing with the situations that DP's are called upon to intervene.

StarGazeR: I think that the current DPs are very capable people (we love Dreasimy) I am a fair person who, I love to help others and I am good at settling issues .... I do not thing the current DP's are lacking any of these skills

Have you played ATITD under other names in this tale or past ones, and if so, what were the names you played under?

Stevehotep: I have had this name ever since I first joined the game. I've never had any alts. I used a different name for about 10 minutes earlier this tale because I couldn't log in and needed to get hold of Teppy but other than that, I'm just me :)

Bryce: I have played every other tale as BryceCicada. I have also usually used 1 alt. each tale, a different name each time. I don't remember the names of each alt, but each alt always had listed on it's info page that it was the alt of BryceCicada. This tale my alt is Dale.

StarGazeR: I am StarGazeR and I have always been StarGazer only the caps were changed. I have played as lots of other people to do stuff for them. I also play a bit as JameyJay (my RL hubby) and Sunkissed ( my RL sister) they are not alts but when they dont play for long amounts of time I do use there accounts

What do you think of those pursuing the Leadership discipline who auction to buy Mentor Shrines?

Stevehotep: Ah you'll never stop that happening unfortunately but it just makes me feel that it is a rather pointless test to be honest. I'll help people if they need it, but I have no interest in gaining any shrines. I do it because it is right to do it and it is in my nature. It is "morally wrong" to buy shrines but unfortunately it's human nature

Stevehotep: Just a little sad really that people have to cheat on that particular test instead of genuinely helping people!

StarGazeR: I won't by shrines.. I really dont even like getting shrines. I would reather help people and get nothing in return. On the other hand I know that you have to have Shrines to pass the Mentor test , so while it is not something I would do I think as long as both parties that are trading think its fair then there is no issue

Bryce: I have stated my opposition to any form of coersion with regards to the mentorship test back to tale 2. I think that the mentee should be free to choose any person they feel has helped them the most without any influence from the outside. However, there are those that "buy" shrines, strong arm them into building the shrine, or purchase alt accts just to pass that test. although within the TOS, i feel it violates the spirit of that specific test.

Those who pass DP are some of the few who *can* become oracle. Do you feel all DPs are required to give a strong effort to be Oracle? For those who said you don't want to or don't like to gather mentor shrines, can you elaborate a bit?

Stevehotep: I think it is a completely separate issue to be honest. I hope to become an Oracle in the Body discipline but I have no chance in the Leadership discipline. I run for DP because it suits my personality being able to help others with issues/disputes, not because it's a "test". If anything DPs should be more focussed on helping others than on their own advancement, but there is room for both

Bryce: This is an open-ended game. I feel all players should be able to persue any and all tests they wish to. If they want to be an Oracle, then go for it. I don't feel that passing any one test obligates a person to pass others, however. And I feel strongly about the mentor shrines, that the new player should feel free to choose the mentor that has helped them the most, rather than buying or selling or feeling pressured to build the shrine to any specific person.

StarGazeR: No I dont think all DPs should become Oracle, I know we need at least one for monuments and If I were elected DP and there was NO other DP going for oracle (I know there is at least one going for oracle) I would either try for oracle (if I had to) or help another DP become Oracle. I just dont like the idea that someone has to give you a shrine, it seems like payment to me. They only have one to give so I would like them to use it to help them self in what ever way (some people may not mentore if they dont get a shrine )

How many hours a week on average would you say you play ATITD?

Dreasimy: The answer to that question coming soon! But first, here's a word from our sponsors!

Dreasimy: (One of the candidates had to step away for a moment so we'll be back in a couple minutes, til then check out our sponsors on L2PBS)

Dreasimy: ***Llama Rights Association is holding their annual fund drive to get Llama Rights on the ballot. For too long we have had sheep and camels taking all the good farmhands. Llamas are great for producing fibers for fabric and they are cute too! Won't you sign the Llama Rights Association ballot today?***

Dreasimy: And.... we're back! Now to that question about how many hours they play :D

Stevehotep: I probably get at least 40 hours a week, usually a bit more. I work from home which enables me to be logged on during the day aswell as during the evenings most of the time.

Bryce: Some weeks, i'm here more than 40-50 hours, some 15-20. but, unless i'm on vacation/holiday and unable to sign in, i'm here every week, multiple days.

StarGazeR: Oh my lots, at least 4 a day and thats on slow days.

How would you handle a situation where someone maliciously destroyed someone elses belongings or say, a Chariot Stop, with explosives? Does the type of item(s) destroyed make a difference in how you feel it should be addressed?

Stevehotep: No, there is absolutely NO excuse for malicious use of explosives. Whether it's a chariot stop or someone's warehouse - it's improper use of explosives and I would expect any items repaid by the "bomber" and a full and public apology - if not then that is one situation where I would consider using a ban but still it can usually be avoided

Bryce: yes, it does to me. If it's done w/ good humor, it's one thing, if it's done maliciously, that's another, if it's done to a public item, such as a Chariot Stop, that's a lot worse, as it effects EVERY egyptian. I believe that would be cause to put them on the AGA ballot, and if they intended to blow up another CS, to act to ban them immediatly.

StarGazeR: Well, Im not that educated on explosives in game or out. If it was something they intended to do then there should be some consequnces. I dont think it should matter if it were a cariot or a camp either way they are still making taking from other players. Now if it were a little item ( a brick rack, distaf) maybe there could be some working things out have the items replaced and give warnings.

Have you been involved in resolving conflicts in ATITD and/or real life? Can you give any specific examples of how you have helped mediate a situation between two parties who could not see eye to eye?

Stevehotep: As I mentioned earlier, I was involved in a major dispute previously here in Egypt. I worked extremely hard both to try and resolve that dispute without banning but also to bring the DPs together into a absolutely majority vote each step of the way. There are often "little" disputes, usually personality based, in Egypt and I often try and step in to smooth waters over and help everyone get along. Not everyone is going to like everyone else but at least we can try to get along well enough!

Bryce: I'm involved with them every month on my mediation board. I will relate a funny example of mediation here in the game, also. in a previous month, i was in a second round dp group with 5 other people that REALLY WANTED to be DP. they couldn't agree on who to vote for, and it appeared as if the round would be a deadlock among 3 people, which of course would result in no one advancing.

Bryce: So I took the initiative and within an hour i had reached a consensus on one person advancing, and everyone felt good about it. The ironic thing is that it wasn't me.

StarGazeR: In real life I teach ages 6 weeks to 13 years. there is always something that needs working out. In game there are alot of the same issues that I have with the kids I teach. "She skipped me in line (ques). "He took my crayons (or oven) , They are in my chair (camp). I have been dealing with those kind of things for about 15+ years. It is my patients and abilty to look at the problem from the out side that helps when these things happen in game or out.

In past tales some DPs have had their powers stripped by ballot initiative. Do you have any thoughts about whether or not those actions were justified? If you aren't familiar with accounts from the past, what types of behaviors do you feel warrant a DP having their powers removed?

Stevehotep: It's a difficult situation but the same "laws" that give a DP the right to ban also give the rest of Egypt the right to remove their powers if they think a misuse has occurred. Last tale there was a situation like that and Egypt voted to remove a DP's powers and that person took it on the chin and, I think, learned from their mistakes. The situation arose in a genuine manner because some players stole from someone. That person made the mistake of dealing with it themselves instead of involving the other DPs......I don't think that is likely to happen again

Stevehotep: Personally I think of the DP office as a GROUP of likeminded people, not an individual. All issues should be handled as a team, thus avoiding any such problems

Bryce: I'm aware of one instance where a DP had their powers stripped, i believe it had to do with some large scale griefing and blowing up a CS. I think the actions were justified to remover the DP. With great power comes great responsibility. Personally, i think a DP should be held to a higher standard than other players.

StarGazeR: I dont know all the details about that. I know in T3 there was a DP who blew up a camp and was put on ballot to be banned (not sure if her powers were stripped) she was not banned ... I think she should have been. I think if there is something you would ban anoter person for then you should no do it either.. if you do you should have your powers taken.

Skyfeather's hypothetical: In a Phoenix race, someone lit a -str incense at CSs and pinned certain racers down with bricks to prevent them from winning, would you consider this griefing, and how would you handle the situation?

Stevehotep: Completely unethical, and another example of "cheating but within the ToS" - I would take a hard line with that person and tell them it was unacceptable behaviour. If they accepted that and promised not to do it again then, that's the end of it - but if they were unreasonable or continued that behaviour then I would take it straight to the DPs office and see what my peers thought of it

Stevehotep: A ban would probably be extreme in that case but certainly the person should be held accountable for that action

Bryce: I would consider this unsportsmanlike conduct, but it is within the rules, and don't feel it would be griefing. I would speak to the player(s) involved, and encourage them not to do it again. of course, turnabout is fair play, and someone else could do that to them the next time. I would always encourage players competing in any test to follow the Golden Rule.

Bryce: not the rule where them that has the gold makes the rules, the golden rule to do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

StarGazeR: No, I dont see it as griefing, rude yes. I would hope we could talk to the player and get them to stop lighting the incense, you could drop the bricks (i know it takes away some time) I dont think it would be a reason to ban someone but I do think it would lead to most of egypt not helping said rude player ....

Since real life can affect how people react to things, are you willing to consider RL facts before thinking of banning? If so, how far into a person's personal life are you willing to delve to find out what might be causing their actions?

Bryce: Well, this is a game, an alternate reality, and supposed to be fun for everyone. As part of any conflict resolution process, i always try to determine the cause for the actions, and what is going on in a person's R/L has bearing on that. If a person is going thru some heavy stuff r/l, i'm more inclined to cut them a little slack, but then i make it my responsibility to go further w/ that person to see if i can help them in some way to help them feel better

Bryce: so they don't engage in this behaviour again..

StarGazeR: Real life can make people crazy but so can game life. If you bring your real life issues in game then you may be hindering another player. I would have a talk with the person with real live issues. Sometimes all people need is some where to vent, someone to talk to. I love to talk and I also like to try to make people smile.. its a game we should be having fun, BUT just because you pup died :( is no excuse to go blowing up things....

Stevehotep: I have found during my many wonderful years here, that there are a vast amount of colorful personalities here, and that everyone has different circumstances. Just like any gathering of people in real life, there are those dealing with depression, illness, hardships in their own lives......I think these things should be taken into account as much as possible because we are all still humans. But it doesn't mean griefing is "ok" under any circumstances....it just affects how a DP might handle that situation/person. Everyone I have met in Egypt has been lovely to me and there don't seem to be any "bad apples" so I think we're all rubbing along together nicely :-)

What have you done, or what do you plan to do, to benefit Egypt as a whole?

StarGazeR: I help with research as much as I can. I have not kept up with what all I have donated. I plan to continue to do that. I am trying to learn alot of new things this telling so I can be more helpful to Egypt.

Stevehotep: I have spent more time this tale helping the greater Egypt than in previous tales I think. I have become more involved in the research side of things to get techs opened. Particularly the Carpentry and Loom Automation Techs and I also helped out a LOT with the Chemistry Research (after finding out that someone else had done a lot of research but refused to make it public). I have been determined to help get this stuff open for everyone. On a personal level, anyone that asks me for help with something, whether it's learning a new skill or getting hold of some mats, has gotten all the help I can give

Bryce: I think everyone, or almost everyone, uses my hybrid flax seeds. I continue to do that. I'm also involved in research and also in helping to open tech's. always have been. And I join pretty much every group available. I also mentor every new player i come across, go out of my way to assist other players, and try to make this a fun experience for everyone. I'm an ATITD addict, and want ppl to have fun here, tell their friends, and expand the player level,

Bryce: so this game can be sustainable into the distant future.

What would you change about the powers DPs have, if at all and why?

Stevehotep: I don't think I'd change anything - the role of DP has been carried out superbly by 99% of those that have held it. I would always be open to suggestions on that front though

Bryce: i would make the AGA part of the DP powers, rather than have us have to pass that law every tale. Otherwise, i believe that in general DP's have done an excellent job in performing their duties thru the tales.

StarGazeR: Maybe I would change it where you would need more than one vote to ban someone. But thats just a maybe most people who are elected DP dont change into a completly diffrent person then they were before they became dp. aslo the need for 2 dps to ban someone would get hard when we only have 2 active Dps or at the start of tale when there is only one DP

Dreasimy: Last chance for listener submitted questions as always, please make sure any submitted are questions, not comments, and topics we haven't already covered :D

Dreasimy: If you tuned in late and aren't sure if it's been covered, feel free to chat me directly. :)

Dreasimy: Back to the candidates:

Have you ever gotten burned out in a previous tale? How do you strive to avoid burnout? :D

Stevehotep: I have suffered burnout but that was mainly due to a marriage breakup in RL. I have gotten better at knowing when to take a few hours off and coming back fresh. Playing 10 hours a day every day will burn anyone out, so having a few other interests helps keep things moving along nicely. I haven't felt that burnout this tale so I must be doing something right! ;-)

Bryce: Burnout is a real danger here, the game is so deep and complex, with sooooo many different goals to work on, it's easy to get burned out. I got burned out a bit at the end of Tale 2 when i was playing solo and trying to do everything myself. I made it a point to do some group activities, and connecting with other players really helped me. So i understand how easy it can be, and remind the players i mentor to guard against it. If i notice a player acting stressed,

Bryce: i try to go out of my way to help encourage that player or help them find their center, to find their enthusium for the game, and help them thru their burn out. I've done this in the past with various friends thru the tales.

StarGazeR: Yes I think we all get brunout everyonce in a while and also real life has a way of playing games with you. In every telling I have played something happened in RL where I had to be gone for a month or so ( death in the family, car crash, hurricane) but I have never stayed away for very long (I love this game) I think the way to avoid it is to keep doing things and learning new stuff. I log on every day to chat even if I have nothing todo (if RL lets me) This telling I refuse to stop playing because I already paid teppy for a year and im going to get my moneys worth!

Do you have any thoughts on how relevant it is 'how' people get to the final ballot? Is it fair game to have alts in early rounds voting for themselves as another character or blocking opponents?

Bryce: I've had that happen personally to me. I've had a person use their alt to block me from the final round in this tale. No one in the round except me knew it was the person's alt. I didn't say anything, and felt that if that person wanted to play that way, it was within the rules. Not very sportsman like, and I'd NEVER do it, but i know it happens.

Bryce: when i am in a round, i ALWAYS try to reach a consensus on who should go on. I may not agree with the consensus, but almost always i am able to acheive one.

Stevehotep: hmm another "within ToS but morally corrupt" activity. For my part, I would want to be voted through fairly and on my own merits rather than cheating to get there. I would question anyone that "cheats" to get to be a DP because it hints that they are not wanting the job for the right reasons doesn't it. What are they prepared to do AS a DP if they're prepared to that to BE a DP?! It should be totally domecratic at all times!

StarGazeR: I think having alts in Dp rounds is kinda like having friends in the round with you. I dont think you should try to advance your alt just so you can have an extra person to vote for you in the final round but I also know people do it. I was brought to this final round by other players and not my self .. that is to say I didnt vote for my self and I did not have any alts.

Do you *want* to be DP? Why?

Bryce: I want to be a DP to continue in an official capacity what I always have done here, work with others, reach a consensus, mediate disputes, and use my experience and talents to make the game more fun for all players.

Stevehotep: Of course I'd like to be DP, but not because it's a test (in fact I think the test part of it should be removed). I want to be a DP because I enjoy helping others resolve disputes, I feel I can be a calming influence on matters, I am very very experienced both in real life and in Egypt-terms and have a wise head on my shoulders.

StarGazeR: Yes I want to be DP because I am a fair and honest person. I am more than willing to give/help without expecting anything in return. I know to listen and I am willing to do so. I can look at 2 sides of a story and in most cases come up with a solution to keep everyone in game and happy.

I would like each of you to wrap up now and tell Egypt what they will get in a DP by voting for you.

Bryce: Top 10 reasons to vote Bryce for DP 10. I am on a mediation team R/L that meets 2 - 3 times a month to mediate disputed auto related medical claims ranging from very small into the millions, so I have EXTENSIVE R/L mediation experience. 9. Have played since Tale 2, so I know the "norms" of the society here, and what is considered generally permissible and what is not. 8. I promise Bryce#159 flax seed for every cp. :) 7. I was DP on the Bastet Shard, so I understand the demands/responsibilities of the position. 6. I look great in a Tux for the Formalware Competition. 5. I look even better in a swimsuit for the Swimsuit Competition. 4. I really want World Peace. 3. Free Health Care for Everyone! 2. I promose to Never vote for a Tax increase and work to lower taxes for the hard working Egyptians. 1. I am the only person that can save Egypt from the impending Alien Invasion. Seriously, any of the 3 of us would make a good DP. I feel my game and r/l experience with mediation and settling disputes speaks for itself. Egypt would get a VERY experienced, slightly sarcastic DP that would endeavor to make every Egyptian's game experience better.

StarGazeR: You will get what you already have in me. A person willing to help no matter if im DP or not. A person willing to be silly and help others have fun in this game. I am fair and honest no matter what. I will be this person now and always.

Stevehotep: To summarise everything we've spoken about here, I'd like to say Thankyou to all those who have voted for me enroute to this, the final ballot, and to those who vote for me IN the final ballot. In me you would get an experienced DP who has a track record of doing a good job at it. Someone who enjoys playing the game to help others achieve their goals. But also someone who knows how to do most of the things that can be done in Egypt and leads by example in that regard. In closing, and to quote a very wise man; "A Working Class Hero is something to be, so if you want to be a hero, come follow me" (John Lennon). I would also like to wish the very best of luck to my fellow candidates, both of whom are great people!

Pirates or Ninjas? GO!

StarGazeR: Pirates!!!!! cooler clothes and they get to play in water!!!!

Stevehotep: Ninjas because Pirates are out for themselves whereas Ninjas protect others from pirates!!! :)

Bryce: Pirates!! Love to sail, and can actually speak the language. Arrrgggghh. And i've always wanted a parrot.

Dreasimy: Thanks everyone for participating in the Debate and for those who submitted questions ahead of time. I'll get the logs all set up for the wiki and announce when they are in their ready to digest format :D

StarGazeR: Thanks Dreasimy for being the most awesome person who some how can do like 50 things at once!

Stevehotep: Thankyou so much to Dreasimy for hosting an excellent debate! :)

Bryce: <----Leads the bandwagon thanking Dreasimy for another excellant hosting job for this debate! Vote Dreasimy for DP!! Wait, she's already a dp, lol. :)
