Crackly, Prickly, Reticulated

This page serves as a repository of research notes on Toxin OE05, the fifth mutagen unlocked in Old Egypt by Renard. It uses 3 Crackly, Prickly, Reticulated (Negative to Hairy, Slimy, Spotted) moss and 7 Beehive, 2 Heart of Ash, 1 Iron Knot, 2 Toad Skin mushrooms.

First mutation test: L-Vampire R-Silken

No change to either flower.

Second mutation test: L-Silken R-Vampire

A magenta on the outer stamen has become Cyan. Hence an R was transferred from Silken, so the left splint affects a gene far on the left.

Discussion and next step

Since the right splint affects a gene so far to the left, in the first test either an I or a Y was swapped between the lilies. Either the right splint hits to the far right, or just left of center.

Clarity Fracture next.

Third mutation test: L-Clarity R-Fracture

Clarity's outer stamen has lost a cyan, Fracture's petals have lost color.

Clearly an I or R has been taken from Clarity and placed onto the very right-hand side of Fracture. However, it was not an R transferred. If it had taken the place of the G a GORR would have been formed, which would have put Cyan on the outer North petals. It could not have replaced one of the Os since that would have created a color visible on Clarity's outer stamen. Hence, an I must have been transferred, and it must have taken the place of the very last gene of Fracture since otherwise color would be visible on Fracture's stamen.

Right-Fracture 18(O)

Fourth mutation test: L-Fracture R-Clarity

Fracture is now Semi-Dwarf, so one of the giant genes has been modified. Clarity has lost Yellow in the Outer-North petals.

It was not an R transferred from fracture, because that would have either caused no change or made a visible change to the south petals Cyan. It could have been an O transferred and affecting gene 35, and it could have been a Y affecting anything. Further analysis might narrow it down.

Discussion and next test

We know from the results above that on the right splint, the following genes are affected:
Right-Silken 18(I)
Right-Vampire 12(O)

Given the results of the first test, an I was transferred from Vampire. The second test limits the possible range to the first two genes, so:
Left-Vampire 1(I)

That limits the genes affected on Silken and Fracture to be the first two.

As established in the fourth test, it was not an R transferred from fracture, so:
Left-Fracture 2(O) Left-Silken 2(R)

We know an I was transferred from Clarity on the left, so:
Left-Clarity 3(I)

And as discussed in the fourth test:
Right-Clarity 35(R)

Crimson and Morning both have stamen colors on their left, which make them good candidates for testing in that range.

Crimson: GYORIOOOIOO
Left splint: 6-9

Morning: IRRR
Left-splint: 3-4

Morning: GRRO
Right-splint: 42-43

Dusk: GORR UOOO
Right splint: 69-71

L-Crimson, R-Morning will not be particularly informative on the right splint, but results on the left splint should prove useful.

L-Morning, R-Dusk will transfer an R to dusk, and each result has a unique interpretation since UROO is a valid allele. If both petals remain unchanged, I won't know exactly where Morning was affected on the Left splint, but that's a risk I'm willing to take.
