Reticulated, Slimy, Striped

This page serves as a repository of research notes on Toxin EG01, the first mutagen unlocked in Eastern Grounds by Nebamon. It uses 7 Reticulated, Slimy, Striped (Negative to Mottled, Phosphorescent, Hairy) moss and 1 Acorn's Cap, 7 Dead Tongue, 7 Nature's Jug, 6 Nile Fire, 3 Ra's Awakening mushrooms.

Initial research

[With thanks to Strutter for getting this started]

  • silken/Vampire no change /io missing?
  • vampire/silken iy missing? /no change
  • Blush/Energy no change /north petal lost yellow GRRO
  • energy/blush no change on either
  • clarity/crown north became reddish/
  • crown/clarity /north became blueish
  • delicate/fracture
  • fracture/delicate cyan outer stamen IR

First mutation test: L-Vampire R-Vampire

The left splint has lost magenta on the outer stamen and gained yellow into the middle stamen. Color does not extend into the inner stamen, so an IYIO must have been replaced by an IYYO. This means it is either gene 5 or gene 9. The right splint has lost yellow outer stamen. Completely consistent with an IY becoming II.

Incorporating prior knowledge

Strutter has already done a number of genome tests which could help narrow down the range further. At a glance though, it seems that the left and right splints might be reversed from the order I would write it in?

From his first test, for an I to transfer from Vampire to silken without visibly affecting the Silken, that would require for the I to transfer to the right hand side of Silken's genome.

From his second test, for a Y to transfer to silken without color changing on the Vampire indicates that the left splint must be on the right side as well. All of this is consistent with just one set of genes:

Left-Vampire 9(I)
Right-Vampire 8(Y)

For the third test, that suggests that a V was transferred from Blush for Energy's G or R.

Second mutation test: L-Fracture R-Blush

No change to either.

Third mutation test: L-Blush R-Fracture

No change to either.

Results and next step

From the Fracture-Blush test, I expected the mutagen to hit genes 13 or 14 (OR) on fracture and genes 16, 17, or 18 (IOV) on blush.
From the Blush-Fracture test, I expected the mutagen to hit genes 18, 19 or 20 (VIO) on blush, and genes 11 or 12 (RG) on fracture.

The GOR in Fracture does nothing to the flower, so either gene 13 or 14 could have been affected without any visible change. It could not have been gene 16 from blush since that would make a visible change. If gene 13 from Fracture was affected, it must be gene 17 on R-Blush. If gene 14 on L-Fracture, then it must be gene 18 on R-Blush. Given Strutter's earlier test, the latter seems more likely.

Gene 11 DOES matter for the Fracture however, and if it had been changed the size of the flower would have changed, and since Blush cannot donate an R from the relevant range, the change must have been to gene 12. Additionally, only the V could have been lost in Blush without a visible change in that case.
Right-Fracture 12(G)
Left-Blush 18(V)

That narrows down the range of Fracture to only gene 13, which gives us Blush as well.
Left-Fracture 13(O)
Right-Blush 17(O)

Looking back on Strutter's third test, that suggests he listed Blush first to indicate that it was the flower on the left splint.

Assuming that the genes I've identified so far are correct, the range for Morning has been narrowed significantly:
L-Morning 30 or 31
R-Morning 28 or 29
Morning's genome: IRRRIYYYIYYYUYYYUYYYURORURORG RRRGYYYGORRGRRO The test on the right looks promising. It crosses two different genes which have different expressions so any change should be obvious.

On the left, Crown would have gene 25 or 26 affected.
Crown: UROOUROOUROOVURVOOVURVORVURORURORUROR

Four possibilities:
Crown's V swaps for Morning's R: Morning's inner west petals lose yellow, no change to Crown.
Crown's V swaps for Morning's G: Morning's outer south petals lose cyan, no change to Crown.
Crown's U swaps for Morning's R: Morning's and Crown's inner west petals both lose yellow.
Crown's R swaps for Morning's G: Morning's outer south petals lose cyan, but inner east petals gain Cyan. Crown's inner west petals lose yellow, but outer north gain magenta.

Looks like any result has a unique interpretation.

Fourth mutation test: L-Crown R-Morning
