(There are 28 types - see Decorative Stone for a full listing). This Perception can be temporary (e.g. boosted through meals) -- you only need the required Perception at the time you learn the skill. You continue to be attuned to that marble type until, and unless, you change it; the skill does not "wear off", even if your Perception drops later.

You can only be attuned to one type of marble at a time. However, you can retrain at any time by returning to a School of Architecture and paying another 10 Slate.
Source
In order to make Rotten Flax, you must have the requires::Flax Processing skill and be standing near a body of water.

Cost
* Flax (harvested, not seeds)

In your "Skills..." submenu, you will find a "Rot flax in the water" option. Once you have selected the number of flax to rot, a buoy belonging to you will appear with a red flag.

It takes 5 TeppyMinutes to rot flax. Once your flax has rotted, the buoy's flag will change color to white, at which time you can pick up your rotten flax.

Alternatively, flax may be rotted in a requires::tub. However, since tubs crumble with use, this is never done in practice, except when there is no water source nearby.

Buoy Facts
* You can rot as much flax in a single buoy as you want; rotting requires a fixed amount of time (about 5 minutes) regardless of the quantity of flax.
* Rotting flax in sulfur water may take several hours.
* Once placed, a buoy can be guilded or given.
* You can retrieve rotten flax from bouys created by your spouse.
* Ownership of buoys was first introduced in the First Telling by the Flax Processing Co-Operative Law.
* Rotting flax in a body of water does not appear to have any impact on fishing.

Use
* Up to 10 rotten flax can be processed at a time in a hackling rake or flax comb, or 200 at a time (up to 1200 with upgrades) in a flax gin, and separated into Tow, Lint and Straw.
* Up to 10 rotten flax can be dried at a time on a Drying Rack or Flax Hammock to create Dried Flax.

Flax is a vital crop used in the production of textiles.

Source
Flax is grown by players from Flax Seeds. Once harvested, it must be soaked in water to make produces::Rotten Flax in order to be processed further. Further processing breaks Rotten Flax into tow and lint, which can then be processed into canvas, linen, and rope, all goods fundamental to the Egyptian lifestyle. Rotten flax can also be dried into Dried Flax, which can be used in construction.

Requires
* requires::Flax Seeds

Cultivation
To grow flax, plant a bed of flax plants using the "Plant" menu, on grass (flax will not grow on sand). After a short while, green flax shoots with blue flowers will appear in the bed. Shortly afterward, yellow weeds will appear, and you will need to weed the flax bed. Depending on the variety of Flax Seeds being used, you may need to water the flax when you weed it (using one jug of water), and you may need to weed or water the bed several times. Eventually, more flax shoots and flowers will grow in the bed, meaning the flax is fully grown and ready to be harvested. It might be hard to see this, but you can click on the flax to tell for sure. Depending on the variety of flax, you may obtain one or more deben of Flax or Rotten Flax on each harvest.

Flax grown in the above manner will not produce any seeds. To grow Flax Seeds, plant a bed of flax but do not weed it. Shortly after weeds appear in the bed, you will see more of the yellow weeds appear, indicating that the flax bed has gone to seed. You may then harvest seeds from the flax up to 5 times before it finally dies. When the plant dies, it will leave more seeds on the ground. It takes 1 TeppyMinute (about 1m 07s real time) for the Harvest option to reappear after harvesting a seed.

Take care to not use up all your flax seeds when growing flax; you should always keep at least a few in reserve to grow more seeds. If you do run out, you can go back to a School of Art to get a few more seeds.

Hotkeys
Under [Self->Options->One-Click and Related], there is an option to enable hotkeys on flax. With this option enabled, you can use [W] to weed/water and harvest flax, and [H] to harvest seeds. In tale 7, you will physically move to the bed and will have animation time.

Varieties
Flax is a complex item, and comes in many varieties, the most basic, Old Egypt, is given to all players on Welcome Island. On the mainland, a variety of seeds are given out randomly from the School of Art and Music. Some require watering, some have pollution/soil quality issues. Through Crossbreeding, it is possible to design even more potent flax strains.

(Visit Flax Seeds to edit this table)

* "Pollution signs" is not an adequate term to describe all the effects the various pollution conditions have on flax output. High and Low nitrogen levels affect different flax strains in different ways. Elevated phosphorus levels can reduce flax output to below normal values or it may result in no output based on the flax strain and the phosphorus level. Elevated acidity does not appear to modify flax production. See Pollution. (QonQuiHotep - 13 Apr 2016)

Pollution / Soil Quality
Most seeds will have some kind of pollution and/or soil quality around the ground where it is grown. Please see the discussion page for discussions about this aspect of Flax growing. See also Pollution
ByProducts
Depending on your Arthropodology skill level, harvesting Flax can sometimes produce produces::Fruit Maggots, produces::Rose Swallowtails, produces::Spittlebugs, produces::Orchid Hoppers, Dew Flies, Snowberry Butterflies, produces::Ruby Hornborrers, produces::Corn Maggots, produces::Raspberry Moths, produces::Nightwings, produces::Woodmoths, produces::Leafhoppers, produces::Leaf Snappers, and produces::Clearwings.

Requires
* requires::Flax Seeds

Depending on your Arthropodology skill level, harvesting Flax can sometimes produce produces::Fruit Maggots, produces::Rose Swallowtails, produces::Spittlebugs, produces::Orchid Hoppers, Dew Flies, Snowberry Butterflies, produces::Ruby Hornborrers, produces::Corn Maggots, produces::Raspberry Moths, produces::Nightwings, produces::Woodmoths, produces::Leafhoppers, produces::Leaf Snappers, and produces::Clearwings.
Construction Hits
Items on an anvil can be manipulated only so many times before they become too delicate to work. The maximum number of hits is governed by the metal used, plus a bonus for passing Art tests:

Maximum number of hits
{| border="1" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="5" style="background-color:#FFF0CC"
|-

Artistic Touch Bonus
Passing Art tests allows a blacksmith to add a small number of quality points to everything they make. The bonus is applied when the object is removed from the anvil, and is automatic.<br>
<br>
The bonus has been calculated by rwindmtg as follows:<br>
<br>
boost=(9999-qual)*((0.02*rank)+0.002)<br>
<br>
For example, a Master of Art will add 102 points to a 9001 quality hatchet, for a final quality of 9103. <br>

Tools
Round Hammer
The round hammer has the same press pattern as the shaping mallet - 7 spots, flat, hexagon shaped. The distribution is pushing metal in any direction up to 3 points away.

The round hammer has two primary uses. It is the "poor man's" shaper, because it hits more area and pushes more metal than the ball-peen hammer, but it does not have as large a distribution pattern as the shaping mallet. It also allows you to hit metal down on spots that wold otherwise be unreachable by clicking on the point *next* to it, if the point next to it is lower than the target point. So if you have a very high point, and want it to stay there, but a low point next to it and you want that low point lower, you can hit the next point over with the round, and the low point will be hit down.

Ball Peen Hammer
The ballpeen hammer has an important press pattern. There are 7 press points - similar to the round hammer and shaper mallet - except the center one is ~19 visual "ticks" deeper than the surrounding 6 (that is, the center of the hammer sticks out a bit) -- so if you hit flat metal, only one point will be pushed. If you hit steep-angled metal, you will hit the points surrounding the point you click on as well. Metal may be distributed as far away as 3 points.

This is the only hammer that can push down only the spot you click on in most situations. It is the tool that allows you to do precision work, and get the really high quality. You would use the ball-peen hammer to clean up most of the errors left by the shaper, which it can not manage as well or at all.

Wide Tungsten Chisel
The Tungsten Chisel is useful but not necessary. It's press pattern is 4 points wide at depth, surrounded (by 12 points total) higher up, similar to the points surrounding the center of the ball-peen hammer. The points around the chisel's 4 main points are higher up than the ball-peen's -- so there are some cases (specifically, the back corners of the hatchet) where the chisel allows you to make it perfect, while the ball-peen does not. The chisel's distribution pattern is its most important feature. When you press with the chisel, metal ONLY moves forward or backward. As far as 3 points, like the other non-shaping hammers.

The Tungsten chisel's primary use is the front of blades. It speeds up what you could otherwise do with the ball-peen by pushing the metal directly away from the blade, instead of randomly around. It provides additional functionality in rare cases, due to its sharper slope (largert point difference between the low spots on the hammer and the high spots), which you can use to your advantage in the back corners of the hatchet.

Shaping Mallet
The shaping mallet has 7 points, shaped in a hexagon (6 points around the point you click nearest, as well as the point you click nearest). It is flat, so you will only push metal away from the highest point among the 7 that it could hit (the others will not be hit, as the hammer is flat.) The distribution pushes the metal as far as 4 points away, from the point closest to where you clicked, in any direction.

The large distribution makes it useful for moving metal around on the blank in large quantities, but the round/flat press pattern makes it less useful for detail work. The best blacksmiths in Egypt often shape up to 8-9k quality before working detail, because you do not want too much metal in the wrong area and have to use the peen hammer to move it -- it takes too long. This is a good skill to develop, possibly the only one needed if you don't plan to make your own 9-10k items.

Techniques
Carpentry Blade
The Basics of the Carpentry blade are simple: Hammering along the front edge with a F8 Shaping hammer and finishing the front with four strokes of a S9 chisel will yield a 4-5k Carp blade. Using a Ball Peen F9 and four quick strokes on the "fins" will make it a 5-6k blade, and you can be finished there. It's a simple, quick, and dirty method for mass production.
Attributes
There are seven character attributes: Strength, Dexterity, Endurance, Speed, Constitution, Focus, and Perception. Each attribute starts at zero.

Increasing stats
Attributes may be increased temporarily by eating raw herbs from the ground, by eating grilled foods, by eating cooked food from a kitchen, drinking from an Aqueduct, or by catching a whiff of Incense.

Temporary Boosts
*Grilled Foods give you small (+1 or +2) boost for 10 min. They cancel raw herb or cooked food effects. You grill food on a Firepit.
*Cooked food lasts for a variable length of time up to about 2 hours and can give a bonus up to about +25 (depending upon cooking skill and ingredients used). They cancel raw herb or grilled food effects.
*Raw Herbs eaten directly from the plant affect the same stats as the herbs can do when cooked, and last 3 minutes. They do not cancel grilled or cooked foods, but stack less than additively.
*Aqueducts increase a single stat by +3 for 24 hours, and stack with any other effects.
*Incense increases one stat and decreases another by up to +/- 7, and lasting up to about 2 hours (both depending upon quality of incense). They stack with all other effects.
*Stone phoenixes give a small bonus to a single stat that lasts 1 hour, if you polish their wings between 6am and 7am game time.
*Test of the Banquet gives a +7 bonus to all stats for its 21 participants, lasting 8 hours.

Permanent Increase
Permanent attribute increases are gained by progress in Tests in the Discipline of the Human Body.

Effects
Strength
*Permanent boost: You gain 1 STR for every 4 animals you add to your logbook for the Test of the Safari. Maximum permanent Strength is 7.
*Temporary boost: Eating <b>Grilled Cucumbers</b> gives a temporary boost +2
*Controls how much weight you may carry. If you have positive Strength, you can carry 500 * (1 + STR) weight. If you have negative or 0 Strength, you can carry 500 / (1 - STR) weight.
*Governs the timer used when separating Coconut Meat and Coconut Water in a kitchen.
*Strength score is added to the amount a Deep Well is wound from one pull.
*Strength score is added to the amount a Barrel Grinder is grinding from one pull.
*Controls timer for stirring cement in Clinker Vat along with Endurance.

Dexterity
*Permanent boost: You gain DEX for learning different moves for the Test of the Acrobat, or for advancing in the Test of the Bedouin. Each Test can grant you up to 7 permanent Dexterity points, for a maximum possible permanent Dexterity of 14 for passing both Acrobat and Bedouin. In The Test of the Acrobat, your first point is given when you learn your first new move. For the Test of the Bedouin, you gain one point each day you advance.
*Temporary boost: Eating <b>Grilled Eggplant</b> gives a temporary +2 boost. After passing the Test of the Bedouin, characters gain the Bedouin Speed ability. When used it increases their Dexterity by 21 points for 30 seconds.
*Controls how much bulk you may carry. Formulas are the same as for Strength and Weight.
*Increases your off-road running speed by 3%(?) per Dexterity point (cap unknown). The bonus is NOT affected by how much you are carrying.
*Increases your chance of getting a Rabbit Pelt when slaughtering a rabbit.

Endurance
*Permanent boost: Adding pearls to your necklace for the Test of the Oyster Catcher.
*Temporary boost: Eating <b>Grilled Onions</b> (increases endurance by +2) or a Grilled Fish (+1).
*Controls timers for flax processing
*Controls timer for digging (with a shovel at a hole)
*Controls timers for gathering dirt and limestone
*Controls timer for Deep Well mines (but Strength is more important)
*Controls timer for stirring cement in a Clinker Vat, along with Strength.
*Controls timer for grinding with a Barrel Grinder (but Strength is important)

Speed
*Permanent boost: You gain 1 SPD every time you're in the top 21 of the Test of the Singing Cicada, up to 8. Each increase beyond 8 requires being in the top 21 twice as often as the previous increase.
*Temporary boost: Eating <b>Grilled Cabbage</b> increases speed by +2 for a few minutes.
*Increases your on-road running speed. Tests seem to imply the increase is about 3% per point (Grilled Cabbage reduced a 22-second run to 21-second, and 3% would be in line with Dex.
*Increases the chance of catching fish, especially some types of rare fish.
*Increases the chance of not losing bees when harvesting from an apiary.

Constitution
*Permanent boost: You gain 2 CON for the first stage of Test of the Darkest Night, then 1 CON for each of the third to seventh stages
*Temporary boost: Eating Grilled Watermelons gives +2 for a few minutes.
*Governs the timer used when making substances in a Chemistry Laboratory or Toxin Kitchen.
*Governs the timer used for Fumeology.

Focus
*Permanent boost: You gain FOC from success in the Test of the Ritual Tattoo.
*Temporary boost: Eating <b>Grilled Garlic</b> increases focus by +2 for 10 minutes.
*Governs the timer used when dowsing.
*Governs the timer used when carving.
*Governs the timer used when tapping pyramid blocks.
*Governs the timer used when inspecting installed blades in a Carpentry Shop.
*Helps removing pearls from your necklace (See Test of the Oyster Catcher).

Perception
*Permanent boost: You gain PER by enjoying many different masterpiece meals, wines, beers and smoked herbs.
*Temporary boost: Eating <b>Grilled Carrots</b> increases Perception by +2 for a few minutes.
*Used when Dowsing for metal veins (higher Perception allows detection of more metal types).
*Required for finding marble deposits - see Rocks of the Ages
*Random boost to harvesting wood from trees.

Timers
Various activities require a period of recovery before they can be performed again. For example, you must rest between uses of a loom. The length of time you must wait is controlled by a timer based on one of the seven statistics.

Buffer
However, In T4 there was introduced an "overdraft" buffer that allows you to borrow limited amounts of action time.

Ordinarily, the buffer is empty. When you first perform an action that uses a stat, the buffer is filled with the cost of that action, and is sized to also give 38 unused seconds. You can continue to perform actions while the buffer has any unused time remaining in it. The buffer empties over time, at a rate determined by your stats.

When the buffer is completely full, the stat name goes <span style="color:red">bright red</span> in your stats window. If you try to perform the action, you will get a popup telling you how long you will have to wait before you will be allowed to use it (based on your current stats).

The stat name changes to a <span style="color:darkred">darker red</span> when the buffer once more has some credit in it, and you are able to perform that sort of action again. When the buffer has at least 18 seconds left, the stat name goes back to black. However, the buffer may take substantially longer to empty completely.

Recovery
The recovery rate is (1 + stat/7) seconds of action buffer per second. So Endurance 7 recovers twice as fast as Endurance 0.

My name is Luiginumber1 (like the Nintendo character). A few of my nicknames include "Luigi", "Luigi1" and "Numb". I enjoy doing Egypt things like operating charcoal hearths and making metal and flax products (but not actual flax farming).
More than anything, I love trading with my fellow Egyptians and contributing to the good of all Egypt. During T5 and T6, I joined too late in the telling to make any significant contribution to research or anything and mostly survived on donations from my fellow Egyptians. I don't want that to be the case this telling! I joined right at the beginning of T7 and as such I want to do all I can to contribute to Egypt. I loathe getting things for free and love the thrill (or whatever it is) of the exchange, and I won't be satisfied unless I give something in return, even if it's something as simple as a few cc or the location of a safari animal or oyster bed.
|description=Better quality tub.
}}
Source
Prerequisite is the Flax Processing skill.

Cost
* 6 requires::Beeswax
* 240 requires::Bricks
* 6 requires::Canvas

Use
A Sturdy Tub is the intermediary tub and has the following uses:

* Rot 20 Dung in 20 water to create 4 produces::Saltpeter (20 teppy minutes).
* Rot Flax into produces::Rotten Flax.
* Produce produces::Sulfur from Sulphurous Water (1 sulfur produced every 1 teppy minute, 20 mins for 20 sulfur)
* Steep Clay in Canvas with 10 Clay and 20 Water in Jugs to create produces::Clay-Steeped Canvas in 3 minutes.
* Steep Clay in Wool Cloth with 10 Clay and 20 Water in Jugs to create produces::Clay-Steeped Wool Cloth in 4 minutes.

A Sturdy Tub can hold 100 Dung and 20 Water or Sulphurous Water. You can add more water at any time to continue a process.

After some number of uses, the tub will crumble to dust (no resources returned).

The Marble Tub is the next step up in quality.

Comments
* This tub is more robust than the Basic Tub and about the same cost - build this one.
* Always better to rot flax in a river/lake rather than a tub as the river/lake doesn't break.
* If the tub is near the end of its lifetime, salvage it to recover some materials rather than letting them go to dust.
** If built and used in banks, one or two of the bank will wear out first giving warning that now is the time to salvage/rebuild.
* If you can afford it, the Marble Tub is considerably longer lasting (that is to say, the Marble tub doesn't crumble at all).

Time In Egypt
During your sojourn in Egypt you will find that time is rather important, but time in Egypt is not as simple as one might think. There are actually three kinds of time that relate to Egypt:

Real Time
The time in the real world. All Events done in the game, as well as other things that are scheduled, are listed in Real Time. Real time is in short used to tell you when something will start but not how long something will happen.<br>
Chat feature which is useful to help get correct event times for people in varying timezones
*{time:xxxx}
**To use: type {time:xxxx} where the xxxx is the time you wish to convey in YOUR timezone using a 24 hour clock. As long as your in-game real time clock (shown at the top of your in-game calendar) is set correctly and matching your real life clock on say, your computer or your wall, it will broadcast to others in their own time zone (assuming they also have set their in-game real life clock correctly).
***To set your in-game time zone click your Avatar > Utility > Set my Time Zone
***Example: In 3 hours it will be time for your Acro Line when it will be 6pm where you live. You type: {time:1800} since on the 24 hour clock 6 plus 12 = 18. For times at 12 noon and earlier there is no need to add 12 to the number. So something at 6:00am your time would be conveyed as {time:0600}.

Teppy Time
"Teppy Time" or "Pluri Time", which is slightly slower than real time, is the internal clock that the game runs on. It is similar to real time in that 1 Teppy Minute = 1 Real Minute + Server Lag. Teppy Time is therefore close to real time, but not exactly. Although server lag is highly variable, and so Teppy Time is not exactly predictable, a good rule of thumb is Teppy Time is 110% of Real Time. Teppy Time is used to measure duration. Many of the timers in the game are based on Teppy Time. If you are waiting for a chariot ride to be free and is says “5 minutes”, those are 5 Teppy Minutes. The same is true for the duration of food, or basically anything that is a length of time displayed within the game. A good example is the time at a chariot stop. If it says 3 minutes 30 seconds, that is teppy time. So with the 110% rule, it would be 3 minutes 51 seconds real time.

You might ask yourself: why this complex system? Why can’t Teppy Time always remain synchronized with real time? The answer is actually quite simple. ATITD is an international game, and to allow the greatest participation in all aspects of the game by the most number of people, time must vary. For example, without Teppy Time, it might always be daytime in Egypt during the hours you like to play -- which would make mushroom hunting and fishing very difficult!

So heres the breakdown, using the 110% method which is very accurate:
*Teppy Time = Real Time
**1m = 1m 6s
**1h = 1h 6m
**1d = 26h 24m

A nice standalone timer (Windows program) is at ATITD Timer. It times Real, Teppy and Game (Egypt) time. T6

Egypt Time
Egypt Time is the "in-game" time -- the day and night cycle. Usually it is useful for things that occur on a cyclical basis, the most famous being “Shroom Time” (those late-evening hours when most mushrooms spawn). Generally used to reference anything of that nature, which occurs on a repeating basis and is part of the day and night cycle in the game. Egypt Time is very simple, 1 Teppy Minute = 3 Egypt Minutes, so 1 Egypt Day = 8 Teppy Hours.

* Egypt Time = Real Time
**1m = 21s
**1h = 22m
**1d = 8h 48m

The Egyptian Calendar
The Egyptian calendar is remarkably simple!

Each year is exactly 360 days long (about 140 RL days), divided into three seasons: Akhet, Peret, and Shemu.
* In actual Egyptian history, the three seasons described the annual cycle of the Nile -- Akhet, or Inundation, the time of flooding; Peret, or Emergence, when the waters receded and crops were planted; and Shemu, or Harvest, when crops were collected. Since the Nile's flooding is not modeled in ATITD, seasons in the game are less important to daily existence.

Each season is exactly 120 days long (about 45 RL days), divided into four months, numbered using Roman numerals (I, II, III, IV). Wheat can only be grown in its designated season (there are different varieties of wheat for each season).

Each month has exactly 30 days (about 12 RL days). A new Wine vintage begins at the start of every month.

Each week has 7 days (about 2 1/3 RL days). The required fresh leaf for an Ant Colony and the thistle voids, change every week.

So "Year I, Shemu IV-25" is the 25th day of the 4th month of the 3rd season of year 1, or the 25th day of the 12th month of year 1, or the 355th day of year 1.

*{time:xxxx}

Teppy Time/Pluri Time
"Teppy Time" or "Pluri Time", which is slightly slower than real time, is the internal clock that the game runs on.

**1d = 8h 48m

* Sulfur can also be made by evaporating Sulphurous Water in a tub, which does not use any wood or require any skills.

Methods
There are two methods used for the kettle:
* Non-stoked - load with requirements including fuel::wood, leave until complete (Takes about 42 real seconds to complete).
* Stoked - load with requirements, stoke with wood and ignite, continue to add wood/stoke as it burns down until the liquid is boiled off. For stoked runs (see details below), you will need 28 wood per kettle (assuming no mistakes), with the total process taking about 15 teppy minutes (about 30 teppysec per tic / Tic meaning each wood burned takes about 30s each). Note: Stoking a kettle is a completely different (and much easier) procedure than stoking a Firepit!

Stoking
In general terms, it works as follows:
* Once the kettle is ignited, it runs in a series of 30-teppysecond ticks. At the beginning of each tick, it consumes one deben of wood. At the end of the tick, it evaporates one deben of water. (Meaning that most of the time, except for the very beginning and end of the batch, it will consume one wood and one water simultaneously every 30 tsec.)
* The first three ticks after igniting are "warm-up" ticks... wood is consumed, but no water is evaporated.
* If at the beginning of a tick there is no wood left under the kettle, the fire goes out. The batch isn't ruined, but the fire will have to be reignited, and will go through the warm-up process again, wasting time and wood.
* You can stoke the kettle at any time to add wood, but it will only hold up to 5 at once.
* Takes 15 Teppy minutes to complete.

Stoking Run
Method 1
# Load requirements
# Ignite (cost 5 wood)
#* Burns off 1 wood in lighting
#* Fire burns till 0 (4 wood)
# At 0 wood stoke 5; water is at 24 now
# At 0 wood stoke 5; water is at 19 now
# At 0 wood stoke 5; water is at 14 now
# At 0 wood stoke 5; water is at 9 now
# At 2 wood stoke 3; water is at 6 now
# Let burn out
# Take the product (don't discard!)

Method 2
# Load requirements
# Ignite (cost 5 wood)
#* Burns off 1 wood in lighting
#* Fire burns till 1 (3 wood)
# At 1 wood stoke 4 (max); water is at 25 now
# At 1 wood stoke 4 (max); water is at 21 now
# At 1 wood stoke 4 (max); water is at 17 now
# At 1 wood stoke 4 (max); water is at 13 now
# At 1 wood stoke 4 (max); water is at 9 now
# At 1 wood stoke 4 (max); water is at 5 now
# Let burn out
# Take the product (don't discard!)

With this second method, you only ever have to "Stock Max", which means you can use the "S" hotkey every time. This is extremely handy when you are running a large number of kettles. It is one extra step but it still works out at the same amount of time and wood but also means that it is less likely that lag or your ability to stock a lot of kettles doesn't result in the kettle stalling (fire going out).

Stoking a Kettle the Easy Way
The above method works perfectly but tends to end up with you tied to your keyboard watching for the wood to reach 0.

You don't need to do that. Just ignite the kettle, and stoke max whenever you happen to be looking at the kettle, until the amount of water in there is 6 or less. Then stoke enough wood so that the wood will run out with 1 measure of water left: if you're at water 6, stoke to 5, if you're at water 5, stoke to 4 wood, if you're at water 4 stoke to a total of 3 wood, and so on.

That way you can alt-tab and read Facebook or chat with your guildies, and just stoke whenever you get a chance. Just check often enough not to let the fire go out (like I just did whilst writing this wiki entry - FAIL!). However, if it does go out, it's not a disaster - you'll just need a bit more wood.

This high quality tub becomes available once you have learned the Advanced Tub Design (First Degree) skill.

Cost
* 1 requires::Tangerine Marble
* 20 requires::Tar
* 10 requires::Canvas

Built in a Compound. Uses 7x13 cells.

Use
A Marble Tub is the top-end tub and has the following uses:

* Rot 20 Dung in 20 water to create 4 produces::Saltpeter.
* Rot Flax into produces::Rotten Flax.
* Produce produces::Sulfur from Sulphurous Water.

A Marble Tub can hold 100 Dung and 20 Water or Sulphurous Water. You can add more water at any time to continue a process.

Marble does not crumble, as will occur with a Sturdy Tub or Basic Tub.

Upgrade
Note: Any type of tub may be upgraded, but given that lower quality tubs are prone to crumble (including the upgrade), it is not recommended for anything other than the Marble tub.

Cost
Requires the Advanced Tub Design (Second Degree) skill to install. May be used by anyone once built.

* 1 requires::Small Barrel
* 1 requires::Barrel Tap
* 3 requires::Iron Bar
* 2 requires::Fine Glass Pipe

Use
An upgraded tub can hold up to 150 Water or Sulphurous Water, requiring fewer refills during processing.

The upgrade also enables the tub to make produces::Paper Pulp, using Sawdust.
* T5 The first produces::Paper Pulp will be made in 9 tmin, from 9 Sawdust and 9 Water.
* T5 Each subsequent produces::Paper Pulp takes 10 tmin, from 10 Sawdust and 10 Water.

Additional Information
You WILL get upgrade stuff back when you salvage an upgraded Marble Tub at salvage level 7.
A Kettle is used for preparing a range of products like potash, fertilizer, and arsenic. With Desiccation skill, it can also be used for evaporating various liquids by boiling.

Some kettle recipes, such as that for potash, require continuous boiling. During this process, more wood is needed overall than the kettle can hold at one time. Thus, for these recipes, the kettle must be regularly stoked by adding more wood to keep it going.

A Water Mine is a large contraption (previously corkscrew-shaped, now a series of buckets on a belt) designed to siphon gems and cuttable gems from the water. Made primarily of glass, it is built near water and is wound by hand.

Source
This building becomes available after you have learned the Water Mining tech.

Cost
* 24 requires::Glass Pipes
* 1 requires::Large Gear
* 4 requires::Copper Straps
* 12 requires::Pulleys

Built Outside, by water.

Details
Placement
A Water Mine can still be built if it is too close to an existing Water Mine, but only the one most recently wound will produce gems. Listening to the pipe of the nonfunctional one returns the message "Aside from the unwinding of the spring in the collar, you hear nothing." If the interfering mine is running when you try to build, you'll get a warning. Presumably, you'll also get a warning if it isn't running. [If you can confirm that there is a build warning when the interfering mine is not running, please update the preceding sentences and remove this one.] It is suggested no closer than about 21 coordinates.

Beware! This building doesn't have a build window, it will be built as soon as you click water mine, unless another water mine is in interference range.

Running a Water Mine
Once a Water Mine is started, it will run on its own for 2 teppy-hours. During the first 5 teppy-minutes, no gems will be produced, but afterwards, it may randomly dispense gems extracted from the sediment. These appear in the hopper to be picked up. The appearance of a gem is signaled by a loud "gurgling" or "bubbling" sound effect heard by those within 64 coordinates (which is the same as the visual range. i.e. if you can see it, you can hear it). A gem will only stay in the hopper for 1 teppy-minute, after which it disappears.

It's fairly common to hear the "gurgling" with no gem appearing in the hopper. Also, unfortunately, there is no pattern to the sound. It doesn't appear to serve as an indication of anything in particular.

The type of gem dispensed by a Water Mine is random. Usually it is one of the types of cuttable gems, but ordinary gems can also appear. These can be of any size, just like those produced by regular mines. (Yes, this CAN include Huge, but it's not at all common.)

If you have not gotten any gems after 30 minutes things you can try are:
* Be sure you have building sounds turned on by clicking on yourself-Options-Audio. Max it if you have any doubts. (Check your computer sound too to be sure it is on.)
* Change the pitch of it. Some pitches give little results. Individual mines vary, try it for a couple hours (well at least half an hour) and if you don't like what you're getting, change it.
* Be sure there are no other mines running within 21 coordinates. (Listen to the pipe.)

Pitch Angle
Not much has been recorded here about Pitch Angle and how it affects gem acquisition. Ancestral lore states that the optimum pitch angle is different for each Water Mine, and each must be individually calibrated through trial and error.
* Pitch may affect what types of gems a water mine gives you.
* Once again, if you aren't getting anything out of the mine after 30 minutes, try changing the pitch.

My water mine does not produce that same quantity of gems at a given pitch between runs.
eg: Pitch = X Run 1 gives n gems, Run 2 gives n-a gems, Run 3 gives n+b gems

If the pitch gives very few gems it does not improve, but pitches that give 5-7 per hour vary run to run.
The Principle of Worship is a cooperative task which, once completed, enables the player to pursue the seven Tests in the Worship discipline. A level is also gained on completion. To sign up for the Principle of Worship, visit a School or University of Worship and use the "Tests" menu. You must be level 2 or higher to sign up.

The Worship Principle is a team effort. Two players (known as aspirants) undertake a sequence of tasks together and, if successful, they pass together. Note: You CANNOT do this test with someone who has already passed the test. Only two people who are NOT initiated into worship may begin this test. Check this by clicking the Pyramid icon in the top corner of your screen before you begin if you're not sure, and ask the other player just to verify.

Overview of Tasks
The trial begins when the two aspirants perform the Ritual of Initiation (see below) together at a common altar. From that moment, the aspirants have 25 minutes to perform the required tasks. They succeed or fail together. Players who fail the principle may try again as often as they like, either with their previous partner or with someone else.

The tasks are listed below. The Ritual of Initiation must be done first and the Closing Ceremony must be performed last; for both rituals, both aspirants must be present together. In between, seven gods must be pleased -- Horus, Isis, Osiris, Thoth, Ra, Bastet, and Amun. Pleasing each god requires 1) an offering performed by one aspirant, followed by 2) an incantation spoken (in the Main chat channel) by the other aspirant. For these tasks, the two aspirants do not need to be near each other.

It is not required that one aspirant always perform the offerings and the other the incantations, but many teams choose to divide responsibilities that way, for simplicity's sake: one aspirant will run around performing the offerings; the other will stay put and recite the incantations.

The seven gods may be pleased in any order.

* Perform the Ritual of Initiation
* Horus Offering: Bow Down (Bless emote)
* Horus Incantation: "Praise Horus, King of Egypt!"
* Isis Offering: Plant a bed of requires::Flax
* Isis Incantation: "Praise Isis, whose seed is forever fertile!"
* Osiris Offering: Drop a requires::beetle into a requires::Mine
* Osiris Incantation: "Praise Osiris, who was Reborn like the Scarab!"
* Thoth Offering: Learn a new skill or technology
* Thoth Incantation: "Praise Thoth, the Magician who created Science!"
* Bastet Offering: Place requires::Camel Milk in a Grassy Field near requires::Water
* Bastet Incantation: "Praise Bastet, who teaches grace and elegance!"
* Perform the Closing Ceremony

Warping using your Navigation skill isn't allowed after the Ritual of Initiation, although you may use Exploration Travel to warp to an Expedition Site. You cannot use spouse warp.

Complete List of Items Required
1 small diamond, flax seed to grow flax, 2 twine (1 for opening, 1 for closing), 1 beetle, 1 board and 1 canvas to construct ritual torch, 1 oil for lighting the torch, 1 grilled fish, 1 camel milk, 1 water in jug, tuition for the skill you need to learn at the School (your choice, within easy reach of altar). Also make sure the person building the torch has Ritual Item Construction.

Details
Ritual of Initiation
Part 1: The Opening Ceremony
The opening ceremony takes place at a common altar, and involves the following steps:
# Aspirant #1 places a Small Diamond on the altars' left pillar.
# Aspirant #2 places a piece of Twine on the altars' right pillar.
# Aspirant #1 meditates on the altar.

You can, and should, take the items back immediately now. They do not have to stay during the test.

Note: This is the statue's left/right, not necessarily yours. If the statue is facing the camera, reverse the instructions (or move the camera).

From this point forward, you must move rapidly! The entire ceremony, from start to finish, can take no more than 25 minutes. If you run out of time, the gods will forget about you, and you will have to start over.

Pleasing the Gods
You can please the gods in any order. For each god, one of the two players must perform some action, then the other must recite a phrase into Main. The action must precede the phrase, or the phrase won't count. The same players do not need to consistently be the actor and the speaker throughout the initiation.

To avoid typing errors, copy the words you need to recite off this wiki, without the quotes, and paste them into the Main channel. If you do mistype something, it will not ruin the test. Just try again.

When an action or a spoken phrase has been correctly performed, both players will receive a popup dialog box confirming it. So the player who will recite the phrase should wait until they get the dialog box for the action being completed.

Horus
Bow down to his lordship (using the "Bless" emote -- the "Bow" emote won't work), then recite, "Praise Horus, King of Egypt!".

You do not need to find a statue of Horus, just do the bless emote anywhere you want and it will count. I suggest doing it right at the altar.

Isis
Plant Flax, then recite, "Praise Isis, whose seed is forever fertile!"

You do not need to wait for the flax to grow. Once the seed goes into the ground, the goddess is pleased.

Osiris
Give him the gift of a Beetle by dropping it into a Mine, then recite, "Praise Osiris, who was Reborn like the Scarab!"

The gender, species, and ownership of the beetle don't matter. Drop whichever type you have most of, or acquire one from an experienced player who will have hundreds to spare from beetle breeding. The option to drop a beetle appears on all mine menus once you complete the opening ceremony, even mines that you don't own and don't have permission to work.

Thoth
Learn a new skill or tech from a school or university, then recite, "Praise Thoth, the Magician who created Science!"

This is probably the hardest god for older players to please! Make sure you have enough resources to learn a skill if you are going to learn from a school. Learning another level on a multilevel skill (like Project Management) counts. Learning a tech from another player does not.

It is best to leave the Thoth offering until the end in case you make a mistake on something else you still have your skill to learn available to you -- Cynic (Note: this is an imported comment from T4. Cynic no longer plays.)

Ra
Light a Ritual Torch deep in the desert, with sand as far as the eye can see. Then recite, "Praise Ra, of the Blazing Eye!"

Location is key here. Use the F6 camera zoomed all the way out. Spin it entirely around. If the only ground texture you can see is sand, the spot should be good. The torch takes 1 oil to light, and 1 board, 1 canvas, and Ritual Item Construction 1 to build. Once lit, it burns for about 15 minutes, then disappears.

NOTE: Ritual Item Construction (1) is required to build a Ritual Torch. This can be the skill learned during the ceremony (for Thoth). Alternatively, a third player may build the torch and give the aspirants permission to use it.

Bastet
Drop a deben of Camel Milk on the ground, in a grassy area at the edge of a body of water, then recite, "Praise Bastet, who teaches grace and elegance!"

The entire body of water does not need to be surrounded by grass, only the part the milk sits on. Make sure the grass is touching the water.

Amun
Eat a Grilled Fish, then recite, "Praise Amun, who gives us reason to celebrate!"

Closing Ceremony
When all seven gods have been pleased, both aspirants must go once more to an altar. It does not need to be the same one used for the opening ceremony. Once they are both there, perform this ceremony:
# Aspirant #1 places a piece of Twine on the left pillar.
# Aspirant #2 places a Water in Jugs on the right pillar.
# Aspirant #1 meditates on the altar.

NOTE: Aspirant #1 DOES have to be the same player that was aspirant #1 in the opening.

As before, items may be removed from the altar immediately after this ceremony.

Checklist
The short list of what you need ready before you start
*List of blessings to recite (copy'n'paste from this page, or make a copy in notepad for faster use)
*Route that includes:
**Common Altar (or two)
**Mine
**Either a School or University
**Deep desert location
**Grass on water's edge
**Flax seed
**Grilled Fish
**1 Oil to light the torch
**Tuition if learning a skill
*Materials required but not consumed:
**Small Diamond
**Twine
**Camel Milk
**Water in Jugs
Good Places for Worship Initiation
** A purpose built facility has been created with a donated altar at the SArch in Four Corners Region. (-40, 4220)
The facility is pathed to each station, with a sign detailing the action to be performed, and copy / paste clipboard of the appropriate response on the sign details.
The entire process can be completed in as little as 2 minutes.
The signs along the paths explain the process step by step, including opening and closing ceremonies.

* School of Leadership in DON. Altar is at 1494 7011 OE, public mine is at 1480 6922, head SSE for the sand, water is near the altar. Very easy had 11 minutes to spare and that's with us getting mixed up a few times. =)
**Note this is a very good spot, especially if you need Project Management 2 (SLead). Everything you need is within 30 seconds of the altar (except going to sLeadership and running to desert to light torch). Just note its really the Old Egypt area. They mentioned DoN above because the altar is right on the border, but just think of it all being in Old Egypt. We had 13 minutes to spare.
* MAP of Locations of the above if you want to view the layout visually. ~Cegaiel

* ULead in River Plains Has altar, SHarmony and SArch(good for getting ritual item construction) and mine closeby

Demonstration
* 1 Camel Milk
* 1 Grilled Fish
* 1 Iron Ore
You must present your demonstration items as part of a group of 21 people. Only the Petitioner needs to carry the items.
Overview
Used for creating various hammered metal products.

Source
This building becomes available to be built after the Advanced Blacksmithing technology is learned at a University of Art & Music. (But an anvil can be operated with only the Blacksmithing tech).

Cost
*1 requires::Anvil Bed
*120 requires::Firebricks
*4 requires::Water in Jugs (jugs are consumed)

Built in a Compound. Uses 7x13 cells.

Tip: Build your anvil facing east to west instead of north to south because it will be much easier to work materials on the anvil using cartographer's camera from the camera options menu. The front of the anvil needs to face south(rotate once clockwise). If it is facing the wrong direction, make sure you have salvage techniques and then tear it down and rebuild the anvil till you get it right.
:: The primary problem with the Anvil is you cannot tell which end is front end. If you rotate it be very carry to note the orientation.
::Also, if you plan to use some of the Carpentry Blade macros, they require the anvil to be in a specific orientation or the macro will fail because the macro can't tell where the front of the anvil is and when it tries to automate the hammer moves and rotations needed the iron won't be in the correct location for the hits. Zhukuram 11:34, 30 September 2015 (EST)

Use
An anvil is used to create various metal tools by shaping a block of metal into a specific pattern. Using an anvil requires the Blacksmithing tech.

This uses various smithing tools, each with a different pattern in pushing metal:
*requires::Ball Peen Hammer
*requires::Round Hammer
*requires::Shaping Mallet
*requires::Wide Tungsten Chisel

The finished products are assigned a quality based on how close they are to the goal. The higher the quality, the more effective the tool, with 9999 being perfect. An anvil can produce the following:
