There is no skill to learn once researched. After research is complete and off timer, a new option appears on the University of Thought menu: "Special Research". This option further leads to: "Read Scientists Notes on Distillation Experiments". A window will appear providing what appears to be already known information on production of Spirits:
While this information would have been useful when alembics were first introduced to the game, I see no reason to ever research this tech again unless it changes from tale to tale. Nor does there appear to be a reason to open in multiple regions.
