Subscription Pricing ($13.99)
So, as we all know, things are not looking too great here recently and its been mentioned several times that Pluribus is probably spending sweat equity in order to simply keep the lights on, so whats going to happen about it?
Well how about going Free-2-Play?, (wait a minute, that's going to bring even less money in) well, no. Don't worry, I haven't gone mad. The following is a list of big name MMORPGS that have gone Free-2-Play and have thrived since doing so and in fact continue to thrive.
- Final Fantasy Xiv: Heavensward
- Rift
- Black Desert Online
- Blade & Soul
- Tera
So the question now becomes, how do these games make money. What exactly do they sell?
The biggest of all these games is RIFT so lets take a look at their cash shop.
Become a Patron
So what does this do for you as a player?
- Currency Bonuses
- Additional Loot in game
- Boosts and Power-ups
- Convenience Perks
There two difference between RIFT and ATITD. Its playerbase and RIFT has combat, so instantly we need to disgard the Currency Bonuses, Additional Loot in game and Boosts & Powerups. So how do we replace this things? How about this!.
- 1 free resource swap (mud, dirt, sand, water, grass)
- Some sort of satchel for extra carry weight at the start!
- Premium avatars
- Convenience Perks
DLC (Downloadable Content)
Now, this is where things getting a little harder because ATITD is developed live and doesnt have DLC. However there are many ways that it would be possible to make money using cashshop items. Just a few possible ideas for a cash shop item are below (the list is endless, depending on how much time developers are willing to put into it):
Tale 8 - Free2play + cash shop trial
???
In Game Shop
- Cornerstones
- Traveltime
- Additional waypoints
- Special building customisation (unique compound designs)
- Camp deco (at any point in the tale)
