+ | ==Idea - Test of the Angry Gods ==
+ | *Some action you do makes the gods angry. This could change daily/ weekly. When a Gods whispers their anger, you have a limited timeframe (say 3 mins) to do something to appease them or they will do something to express their anger, such as whisk you to a random spot elsewhere on the map, or prevent you from walking in a straight line, or remove an item from inventory. Each God (Ra, Geb, Isis, Hathor, Set, Osiris, etc) has a different way of showing their anger and a different method of appeasement. Part of the test would be to work out the right appeasement, given the nature of the God's anger.
+ | |||
+ | For example, if you were runing in the deep desert, then appeasement might be to consume an ambrosia or something that prevented you from hallucinating or travelling in circles. Or you could make a prayer of temporary protection before any planned long trips across the desert, and the protection granted would last for say an hour after which the Gods get angry again and throw you around! Or you hear them and try to run to a place of safety (like a altar, CS, school or Uni) while praying them to have mercy on you.
+ | Even when you hear the whispers, you may get judged and be forgiven.
+ | |||
+ | [Need to develop a good workable list of possible anger triggers and appeasement methods for each God]
+ | |||
+ | Once an 'anger' episode is triggered (random event that changes regularly, similar to triggering a Beacon), the player is notified in Main and has 3 mins to attempt a 'preventative', which negates the episode, or 20 mins to complete the 'appeasement' ritual which removes the anger. Each 'anger episode' lasts for 60 mins after which time the God's anger fades, but will reappear at any time until the appeasement is completed. It would be possible for a player to be dealing with multiple angry gods concurrently. Preventative measures may or may not work. You would need to keep trying the options until you find the one that does work.
+ | |||
+ | |||
+ | eg.. | ||
+ | * Ra - solar deity - when angry causes sunburn. Prevent by swimming, or collecting a palm fronds. Appease by offering lemon flavoured oil ambrosia at an altar
+ | * Set - desert/ disorder - when angry reduces Dex to 0 for 60 mins. Prevent by drinking at a Dex Aquaduct or eating Herb: Chives. Appease by performing a ritual at an altar in the deep desert.
+ | * Osiris - afterlife/ regeneration - when angry causes skin to turn green for 60 mins and all crops planted to turn to seed regardless of tend method. Prevent by drinking cabbage juice every 3 minutes or cutting an Osiris Eye gem. Appease by performing a ritual with a grand legacy of an oracle at an altar near water.
+ | * Geb - Geb - earth/ snakes - when angry causes the player to fall repeatedly to the ground as though bitten by a snake. Prevent by tying brown ribbons to wrists and ankles or finding a hen in light pampas grass. Appease by affixing a temprary tattoo and performing a ritual at an altar near dirt.
+ | * Isis - house and home - when angry, removes all navigation points and removes you to a location within 500 coords of your present location. Protect by eating a meal with +7 Constition stats or staying within 30 coords of your home location. Appease by Praying for Leadership home at 7 Altars in 3 regions within 60 mins without using travel time or spouse travel.
+ | * Thoth - wisdom and knowledge - when angry causes forgetfulness of recently acquired skills/ opened technologies. Protect by hamboning with 7 people or learning 2 new acro facets. Appease by teaching 7 new skills to seven people of level 7 or under.
+ | * Bastet - cats/ nurturing and protectiveness - when angry all tools in inventory go 'rusty' and installed cornerstones cease to work. Protect by dropping a ball of twine in all compounds where cornerstones are installed and applying lube oil to 7 different types of machine. Appease by making an offering of whole fish and camel milk in the company of seven peers.
+ | |||
+ | Feedback: I like the random thing, like you are never certainly sure of protection - so you never know if it will happen today or you'll be safe (if unprotected). More intense that way.
+ | |||
+ | '''Passing the test?'''
+ | *Principle: Appease an angry god once.
+ | *Test: Appease all the angry gods.
+ | |||
+ | ==DP Debate On Line== | ||
+ | |||
+ | '''Q1. For those who have never had the opportunity to interact with you before can you share a little about yourself, what you enjoy about ATITD as well as how long you have been playing? '''
+ | * I am married to a musician, have a spoilt cat and live in a country town in Australia. Recently retired, I earned a living in several large government agencies doing fun things like Defence major capital project management, value engineering and eventually leadership development and executive coaching. In real life I enjoy gardening, singing and art/ crafts.
+ | * What I most enjoy about ATITD is the people stuff, winding down with a run through the vineyards and being able to potentially influence what happens. It is a peaceful place to be after a busy day in rl!
+ | * I started playing right at the end of T4, and have played all the way through T5, T6 and now T7.
+ | |||
+ | '''Q2. How you like T7 so far, is it better or worse than previous Tales. Which Tale was your favorite? '''
+ | * Each of the tales is different. I loved T4, it got me addicted! In T5 I learnt so much, but it went really quickly. T6 gave me a chance to complete all the available tests in all seven disciplines and still kept learning all the way, even managed to get the VT thistle macro going towards the end in desperation! I am enjoying T7 because I can pursue challenges and contribute to major community projects.
+ | |||
+ | '''Q3. If the general consensus of the rest of the DPs were that that person should not be banned, but you felt strongly that they should, what would you do? '''
+ | |||
+ | * The only time I would consider using the ban powers is when there are clearly illegal actions happening (like drug dealing). In that case I would have a moral obligation to set out the evidence and declare my intention and rationale, and take prompt action to preserve the integrity of the game. Check the T6 DP Ban Log for more details on bans I have personally been involved with and the underlying situation and context. in general, though, I'd be arguing for not banning, and taking the initiative to talk it through.
+ | |||
+ | '''Q4. Many activities in Egypt are PvP oriented/ highly competitive. Recently some issues have been discussed in ET regarding Test of Retired Pirates. Please explain how you approach these sorts of tests and if as a player you use any method to improve your outcome like having alts/mules voting in other rounds to enhance your pass chance. Do you push/campaign your guilds to vote for you and or forming test/rounds alliances or salt rounds with players that have already passed. '''
+ | * Persistence and patience are legitimate strategies and probably my default approach - waiting until the competitive desperados have done their thing and moved on or just keeping on going until the scores get there. It isn't as though there aren't enough other things to be getting on with and I know I'll get there eventually. Passing tests isn't the only way to play. These days I enjoy exploring the crafting byways. I truly appreciate the care and attention that has gone into the design of things we interact with every day. I don't have any alts and haven't enjoyed trying to compete on the few occasions I have given it a go. In zfree the leadership group have sponsored and supported sub guilds focussed on assisting players with specific tests, such as Throne, Funerary Temple, Megalopolis and Seven Phoenix. It's efficient and works well.
+ | |||
+ | '''Q5. How are you providing leadership in the game and amongst the player base? '''
+ | * * I’m slowly working through the tests in the discipline, though I firmly believe that leadership is a part of how you behave in each interaction you have. I am proud to be an elder in zfree guild. We manage as a team a large and diverse member base and endeavour to provide services and support our members. As a leadership team we all play to our strengths and work together on many issues.
+ | |||
+ | '''Q6. What specifically have you done to further the growth of the community? '''
+ | * I have helped to set up the RP Gem School as a resource for all. I enjoy contributing to community projects, such as the pyramids. I also help out on people issues. These are, and will remain, confidential.
+ | |||
+ | '''Q7. How do you feel about sometimes heavy use of macros in this game by many players? If there was a choice would you support a complete ban of macros in the Tale? '''
+ | * I don’t mind people using macros, they certainly help with getting through the 'hard yakka' - but tend not to use them myself. I managed to get to Oracle of Seven in T6 without really using macros, although I did eventually resort to doing thistles using VT towards the end. A complete ban on macros wouldn’t bother me at all but it would make some of the requirements and research costs rather daunting.
+ | |||
+ | '''Q8. Spouselog allows access to ban powers. Do you know who has access to your spouse account? '''
+ | * Only if your game or rl spouse has access to your password and logs in as you. Changing your password is an effective way of regulating access if there are any concerns.
+ | |||
+ | '''Q9. Please describe what you consider to be "griefing" in the Tale. '''
+ | * Actions of an individual or group with deliberate malicious intent to disrupt or interfere with other players, cause distress or interfere with fair play. There is a sliding scale of seriousness from the clearly illegal (ban) to thoughtlessness (talk it through, maybe with a warning).
+ | |||
+ | '''Q10. Easy question... Ninja or Pirate? '''
+ | * Ninja - would be nice to put all those acro moves to good use.
+ | |||
+ | '''Q11. Who would you vote for if you weren't running this time?'''
+ | *Peter - because he is energetic and has thrown himself into challenges with enthusiasm and intelligence.
+ | |||
+ | '''Q12. Closing statement.'''
+ | * I believe that leadership is expressed in how you deal with others everyday, being available to provide support when needed and being prepared take a stand for the benefit of the majority.
+ | * What other powers would I like to see DPs hold, in the interests of improving game play? I have been toying with the idea of DPs as advisors to the Events Team. They could then help with player queries, influence how and when events run, help make sure the prizes reflect the community’s needs as well as build greater confidence in sponsoring and leading player organized events.
+ | * What question would you like to be asked, and why? What are some of the more challenging things you have experienced as a DP? Why? Because it unlocks a lot of interesting and powerful stories about how people experience ATITD and the relationships that are formed here. |

Idea - Test of the Angry Gods
- Some action you do makes the gods angry.
For example, if you were runing in the deep desert, then appeasement might be to consume an ambrosia or something that prevented you from hallucinating or travelling in circles. Even when you hear the whispers, you may get judged and be forgiven.
[Need to develop a good workable list of possible anger triggers and appeasement methods for each God]
Once an 'anger' episode is triggered (random event that changes regularly, similar to triggering a Beacon), the player is notified in Main and has 3 mins to attempt a 'preventative', which negates the episode, or 20 mins to complete the 'appeasement' ritual which removes the anger. Each 'anger episode' lasts for 60 mins after which time the God's anger fades, but will reappear at any time until the appeasement is completed. It would be possible for a player to be dealing with multiple angry gods concurrently. Preventative measures may or may not work. You would need to keep trying the options until you find the one that does work.
eg..
- Ra - solar deity - when angry causes sunburn. Prevent by swimming, or collecting a palm fronds. Appease by offering lemon flavoured oil ambrosia at an altar
- Set - desert/ disorder - when angry reduces Dex to 0 for 60 mins. Prevent by drinking at a Dex Aquaduct or eating Herb: Chives. Appease by performing a ritual at an altar in the deep desert.
- Osiris - afterlife/ regeneration - when angry causes skin to turn green for 60 mins and all crops planted to turn to seed regardless of tend method. Prevent by drinking cabbage juice every 3 minutes or cutting an Osiris Eye gem. Appease by performing a ritual with a grand legacy of an oracle at an altar near water.
- Geb - Geb - earth/ snakes - when angry causes the player to fall repeatedly to the ground as though bitten by a snake. Prevent by tying brown ribbons to wrists and ankles or finding a hen in light pampas grass. Appease by affixing a temprary tattoo and performing a ritual at an altar near dirt.
- Isis - house and home - when angry, removes all navigation points and removes you to a location within 500 coords of your present location. Protect by eating a meal with +7 Constition stats or staying within 30 coords of your home location. Appease by Praying for Leadership home at 7 Altars in 3 regions within 60 mins without using travel time or spouse travel.
- Thoth - wisdom and knowledge - when angry causes forgetfulness of recently acquired skills/ opened technologies. Protect by hamboning with 7 people or learning 2 new acro facets. Appease by teaching 7 new skills to seven people of level 7 or under.
- Bastet - cats/ nurturing and protectiveness - when angry all tools in inventory go 'rusty' and installed cornerstones cease to work. Protect by dropping a ball of twine in all compounds where cornerstones are installed and applying lube oil to 7 different types of machine. Appease by making an offering of whole fish and camel milk in the company of seven peers.
Feedback: I like the random thing, like you are never certainly sure of protection - so you never know if it will happen today or you'll be safe (if unprotected). More intense that way.
Passing the test?
- Principle: Appease an angry god once.
- Test: Appease all the angry gods.
DP Debate On Line
Q1. For those who have never had the opportunity to interact with you before can you share a little about yourself, what you enjoy about ATITD as well as how long you have been playing?
- I am married to a musician, have a spoilt cat and live in a country town in Australia. Recently retired, I earned a living in several large government agencies doing fun things like Defence major capital project management, value engineering and eventually leadership development and executive coaching. In real life I enjoy gardening, singing and art/ crafts.
- What I most enjoy about ATITD is the people stuff, winding down with a run through the vineyards and being able to potentially influence what happens. It is a peaceful place to be after a busy day in rl!
- I started playing right at the end of T4, and have played all the way through T5, T6 and now T7.
Q2. How you like T7 so far, is it better or worse than previous Tales. Which Tale was your favorite?
- Each of the tales is different.
Q3. If the general consensus of the rest of the DPs were that that person should not be banned, but you felt strongly that they should, what would you do?
- The only time I would consider using the ban powers is when there are clearly illegal actions happening (like drug dealing).
- Persistence and patience are legitimate strategies and probably my default approach - waiting until the competitive desperados have done their thing and moved on or just keeping on going until the scores get there.
Q5. How are you providing leadership in the game and amongst the player base?
- * I’m slowly working through the tests in the discipline, though I firmly believe that leadership is a part of how you behave in each interaction you have. I am proud to be an elder in zfree guild. We manage as a team a large and diverse member base and endeavour to provide services and support our members. As a leadership team we all play to our strengths and work together on many issues.
Q6. What specifically have you done to further the growth of the community?
- I have helped to set up the RP Gem School as a resource for all. I enjoy contributing to community projects, such as the pyramids. I also help out on people issues. These are, and will remain, confidential.
Q7. How do you feel about sometimes heavy use of macros in this game by many players? If there was a choice would you support a complete ban of macros in the Tale?
- I don’t mind people using macros, they certainly help with getting through the 'hard yakka' - but tend not to use them myself. I managed to get to Oracle of Seven in T6 without really using macros, although I did eventually resort to doing thistles using VT towards the end. A complete ban on macros wouldn’t bother me at all but it would make some of the requirements and research costs rather daunting.
Q8. Spouselog allows access to ban powers. Do you know who has access to your spouse account?
- Only if your game or rl spouse has access to your password and logs in as you. Changing your password is an effective way of regulating access if there are any concerns.
Q9. Please describe what you consider to be "griefing" in the Tale.
- Actions of an individual or group with deliberate malicious intent to disrupt or interfere with other players, cause distress or interfere with fair play. There is a sliding scale of seriousness from the clearly illegal (ban) to thoughtlessness (talk it through, maybe with a warning).
Q10. Easy question... Ninja or Pirate?
- Ninja - would be nice to put all those acro moves to good use.
Q11. Who would you vote for if you weren't running this time?
- Peter - because he is energetic and has thrown himself into challenges with enthusiasm and intelligence.
Q12. Closing statement.
- I believe that leadership is expressed in how you deal with others everyday, being available to provide support when needed and being prepared take a stand for the benefit of the majority.
- What other powers would I like to see DPs hold, in the interests of improving game play? I have been toying with the idea of DPs as advisors to the Events Team. They could then help with player queries, influence how and when events run, help make sure the prizes reflect the community’s needs as well as build greater confidence in sponsoring and leading player organized events.
- What question would you like to be asked, and why? What are some of the more challenging things you have experienced as a DP? Why? Because it unlocks a lot of interesting and powerful stories about how people experience ATITD and the relationships that are formed here.
