Foraging Skill
Skill Tuitions
Foraging is learned at a School of Worship.
Rank One (level 2) allows you to forage and requires:
- 300 Thorns
- 30 Cactus Sap
Rank Two (level 9) allows you to memorize foraging techniques through Foraging Memory (see below) and requires:
- 7 Ashoka
- 7 Fumitory
- 7 Ilex
- 7 Orange Sweetgrass
- 7 Pulmonaria Opal
- 7 Sweetsop
- 7 Yellow Tristeria
How to Forage
Clicking on an herb will give its name as "some kind of herb". If you have the foraging skill (level 1), you also have a menu "Foraging...". If you harvest the herb correctly you'll get 1-7 herbs in your inventory and the plant will disappear. You can look up the correct forage method for all the known herbs on the list of herbs below.
Foraging Memory
Once you learn foraging degree 2 (after level 9) aka "Foraging Memory" you can memorize the forage methods of herbs, and never have to look them up again! To memorize a foraging method you must successfully forage that herb 7 times, without fumbling in-between those successes. If you fumble the herb on forage number 6, the counter resets, and you must successfully forage it another 7 times. Eating an herb fresh off the ground does not interfere with the memorization counter.
Once you memorize the forage method for an herb, the sub-menu of forage method options will disappear, and it will be replaced with a menu option that says, for example, "Forage this Wild Lettuce."
Herb Seeds
The Herbiculture technology gives a chance to gather Herb Seeds when you forage a herb. Using the Herbal Exploration technology, you can find Aqueduct Towers to grow the seeds at.
Foraging Guide
Some herbs are rarer than others. See Herb Rarities for more details. Also, unforaged herbs are needed for the Test of the Ritual Tattoo. If you find an herb (especially a rare one) which somebody needs for that test, it would be a kind act to let them know rather than harvesting it yourself. The following herb guilds have lists if you're looking for a specific herb.
Trying to figure out When to look for an herb? Some dates that herbs have been found growing are listed on the Herb Seasons Page
Outside Sites
- Herb:aList for T7 - Has been released by Rogarian as a community supported foraging guide
- The Herb seasons spreadsheet attempts to determine if there are seasons for each herb. Please use it to log all your foragings. Hosted by TheMazeEcho, after an idea from Peacefulness.
Harvesting
There are twelve different ways to harvest the herbs:
- Cut away the outer stem
- Harvest the root pith
- Trim the root fibers
- Snip the leaf stems
- Peel back the stem base
- Scrape off the stem pith
- Remove the tap root
- Pick out the seeds
- Crush the stems
- Pluck the leaves
- Squeeze out the sap
- Scrape away the leaf hairs
List of Herbs
Upload your image to the wiki and add a link like [[Image:Newherbs%24tagetese.jpg|thumb|256px|Tagetese]] in the third column. That will automatically resize the picture to a width of 256 pixels, independent of the size of the uploaded picture. Please turn off Time-of-day-lighting to make the images comparable, and drop a grass beside the herb before taking the shot to illustrate the size of the herb. See Help:Herb_Image for more information.
also please keep in mind that its the HERB people want to get a good look at not you Hamboning!
(the herb will be relatively bigger in the thumbnail if it is only the herb in the cropped image.)
