University Text
To prove your potential in the disciple of Thought, you must know the pulse of the Egyptian people. You will create a Set's Ladder, a mechanical gambling device, and invent a set of rules for it that others want to play.
You will first need ownership of a pyramid, although it is not necessary to have had a hand in it's construction. You'll then need to build a set of Arks at the pyramid, or have someone else do that for you, and you'll have to fund the Ladder and configure it.
Passing the Principle
Your Principle tab will say:
- Build a Set's Ladder and tear it down OR
- Have seven judges solve and rate your puzzle OR
- Solve 3 recently recognized Set's Ladders.
Once you pass the principle, you will gain a level and will also be able to sign up for the seven Tests of the Thought discipline (provided that you meet the level requirements.)
The Set's Principle is an awkward roadblock. Building a Set's is normally not achievable for new players doing initiation-level activities as the gem cuts are advanced. Because few are being built, there are at this point in the Tale almost never 3 "recently recognized" Set's as it is unlikely three will have been built, played and passed within the "recently" time frame. Therefore, for many people dowing Principles of Thought, the only way to pass is to borrow an existing Set's Ladder and have three people play it. Do that and only that and it absolutely will fulfill the requirement for "Have seven judges solve and rate your puzzle" -- you DO NOT have to build it. You also DO NOT need to do any of the other steps.
Passing the Principle with a Borrowed Set's
Anyone who owns a Set's can give it to you permanently or as a loan. Once you own the Set's the following steps will reset it for new games and judgments to qualify for your principle:
- Set's Ladder > Close to players
- Set's Ladder > Configure > OK (Change nothing)
- Set's Ladder > Open
Again, you do not need to do ANYTHING else - no glass rods, limestone, etc. Have 7 people play and judge your Set's and you'll zap.
