Guilds/GreenValleyFalls/Tests
OMG What Do I Do?
Players new to the Tale are often confused at the beginning as to what they should do. The answer is: get Levels. Getting levels through Principles and Tests has two purposes. First, it introduces you to the various disciplines so you get to discover which ones you like - amassing materials to build for Architecture, working in a group with others for Worship, designing pretty things for Art, etc. Second, each tests have a level requirement so the more levels you can rack up, the more tests will be open to you and the more options for exploration you'll have.
While GVF is always happy to help contributing members achieve their Tale ambitions -- that's what the Guild is for! -- below are the Principles and Tests for which the Guild routinely provides specific support. An example path might be:
- 1. Build an Obelisk. We can give you a kit and instructions to pass both Principle and the full Test.
- 2. Start Towers. We can give you kits and team assistance to pass both Principle and the full Test.
- 3. Build an Oracle Mosaic. Most materials and all tiles are provided. If you are rubbish at it, chat to Eimear who will help you.
Principles of Thought
We can often arrange to borrow a Set's Ladder for you to pass this principle. We can also provide you with seven required votes!
Test of the Obelisk: Principle & Test
We can hep you with a full kit to build a cut stone obelisk that will immediately satisfy the requirements for your principles and also pass the full test a week later.
Test of Towers: Principle & Test
"All's fair in love and Towers" is totally true so you are welcome to rock Towers whatever way you want. If you want to solo your towers, you are still welcome to use GVF to bake your bricks etc. You may end up competing in a Tower round against other GVF members, but that's the way it rolls with Towers.
Alternatively, many of us prefer to team build Towers. The Guild provides Tower kits and we build for each other, with a Tower Team providing strategy on what tower types on what dates, where they are being built and who is building for whom. If you are in need of Principles, you go to the front of the queue for your first Tower and then finish the full test with everyone else. Note that there is literally no point in only doing the Principle when the Principle requires you to build two Towers and we can get you through the full test in 3 - 4 cheap, fast Towers.
You may need to grow vegetables or provide other Tower materials but you do not have to be able to provide or make materials for every type of Tower. Do not freak out!
Test of the Raeli Mosaic: Principle
The principle requires only that you build the table, not that you add tiles to it. We can help you with all of the required materials to build your table. You may need to provide wood for the boards that have to be treated, mine the metals that make the steel, or gather beeswax to trade for the sheetglass your table will need.
There is a public oven immediately next to the MV CS you can turn on and off, bake and dredge for your principles. We're happy to provide the charcoal you need for this, no problem. This is far easier than baking one of the Guild's remote ovens!
If you are planning to do the full test (below) please build an Oracle level table.
Test of the Raeli Mosaic: Full Test
Hanid at GVF has a museum in RP close to the CS where most members build their Oracle mosaic tables; it has other mosaics, so that increases the chance of people visiting to give you the votes you will need to pass the full test. Your fellow Guild members will also absolutely come out to vote for you.
We can almost always provide you with all of the tiles needed for your mosaic. An Oracle level mosaic will consume between 2,000 and 4,000 tiles, so this is one of those tests where you're just going to have to accept profligate waste. (We have loads of tiles; don't worry about it.)
Our tile WHs are guilded to GV Ovens (see below) and access is strictly controlled because we run concurrent inventory on spreadsheets. Tell Eimear or Huggz the colours you need and we'll give you more than enough of every colour we have; just return your unused tiles when your mosaic is finished. Note that blues are VERY rare in this Tale so we may have to work with you to find a blue we have in stock or to find an alternative.
Test of Funerary Temple: Principle
We can provide you with a build kit for your temple but ONLY if you are only going for Principles, as we salvage it after and use the build materials again for the next person. We can always provide you with a complete set of tiles to achieve 7,000 glory. These tile sets are packed and ready to go and waiting for you to use them.
Test of Funerary Temple: Full Test
GV Ovens owns 30 Raeli ovens, which is a lot of Raeli ovens. If you want to do the full test, you can join GV Ovens and burn your own tiles with 30% going to the Guild on the honor system. Please note that there is NO point in starting to burn ovens until you can pack a lunch as you will not have the carry to bring tiles back!
Test of the Ritual Tattoo: Principle (and Test if you want it)
You only have to actually make one mortar. We can give you the Oyster Shell Marble for this mortar, and/or teach you to quarry if you would prefer. We can also loan you the rest of the mortars you'll need; no need to use up OSM making new ones if they're around :)
We can also loan you a barometer when it is time for you to add your resins and powders in a specific location (some of these locations demand a specific elevation.)
Test of the Archaeologist: Principle (and Test if you want it)
Styx can make Archaeology food to help you have high DEX and PER for digging. Eimear also has a 9.5K arch shovel named LARA CROFT that can be borrowed; Huggz currently has it.
Styx has all of the spare relics. Only ONE of the three you put in your case has to be dug out by you. You are welcome to see if the spare ones will fill your case to reach 28 points for Principles. You can then take them out and return them.
Test of the Formal Garden: Principle & Test
The "Build a Gazebo" aspect of this test is staggeringly spendy so members relying on Guild support should NOT plan to do this just for Principles as it is ultimately a huge waste of materials. Go full Test or go home! :)
Note that in addition to the materials for the build, the Guild owns many guilded flowers you are welcome to fertilize and bud to create the flowers in your garden. You can also use the greenhouses in camp for the cross-breeding requirement.
