Moss is a complex item found on Aqueduct Towers.
Use
Moss is used for various Research, but also used in Chemistry and Mutagenics.
- 100 Fuzzy Moss is needed for Plantation Headquarters. (Can be any type of moss with "fuzzy" in the name.)
Research and Tuition
- 100 required of any kind for Herbiculture research
- 49 green required of any kind for Herbiculture research
- 7 hairy required of any kind for Herbiculture research
- 7 calico required of any kind for Herbiculture research
- 7 phosphorescent required of any kind for Herbiculture research
- 7 striped, calico required of any kind for Herbiculture research
- 7 calico, reticulated required of any kind for Herbiculture research
- 7 striped, reticulated required of any kind for Herbiculture research
- 300 required for Mutagenics research - varies by region - see Mutagenics page
Moss Harvesting
Click on the tower and note the type of moss on the first line (example: "Some Green, Fuzzy moss grows here.")
Select "Harvest the Moss." Harvesting moss does not change the moss attributes. Moss attributes can change during the 2.5 minutes the moss is regrowing if someone clicks "Bless this Aquaduct, drinking from the Cool Waters".
Look in Main to see the quantity of moss you harvested. "Harvest the Moss" reappears after harvesting when 2.5 minutes has elapsed. The quantity of moss will now be 1. Moss regrows at an exponentially slower rate until it reaches a maximum of 49 moss.
List of Moss Attributes
Moss can have any of the following attributes:
- Calico
- Crackly
- Dry
- Fuzzy
- Green
- Hairy
- Mottled
- Phosphorescent
- Prickly
- Reticulated
- Slimy
- Smelly
- Spongy
- Spotted
- Striped
Moss with no attributes is "common" moss and is not harvestable.
Blessing to Change Moss Attributes
Grab a book or watch a show because it will take awhile to learn your attribute additions and subtractions while testing.
Remember to Bless a tower as you pass by it while running around Egypt!
Towers begin with "Green" when first built or after an aquaduct line goes completely dry and then is refilled. If a tower loses all attributes it will say "Some common moss grows here." Common moss is not harvestable. Common moss can be changed to have attributes.
Click the tower, note the type of moss at the top of the window "Some <moss attribute/s> moss grows here.". To change moss attributes, click "Bless this Aquaduct, drinking from the Cool Waters". Reclick the tower to check the first line and see if you changed one or more moss attributes.
In Main, the message will have two sentences after Blessing. The second sentence is the key on knowing if you have changed moss attributes (see NOTE):
- "You murmur a silent prayer to the gods, lean over the moss-covered cistern, and take a deep drink of the cool water."
- "Your endurance seems subtly enhanced." NOTE: If you Blessed at least 5 minutes from the last Blessing then this sentence will also say ",and the moss has somehow changed character a bit." Otherwise, this second sentence will only have the first part in quotes and you will know that you have NOT affected moss attributes.
Blessing will only affect moss attributes once every 5 teppy minutes. When someone blesses a tower, they can add and/or remove one or more attributes. It is possible to add an attribute and then subtract it. We generally say you add that attribute, just personally note that you may remove it later and do not keep blessing after adding it if that attribute is needed for a mutagenic recipe or test.
Try Blessing several times at the same tower. But also try different towers. It is possible to affect a tower more easily or seemingly not at all from another tower, especially if other players have previously Blessed it. We think you always affect all attributes in some way, to lesser or greater amounts each time you Bless.
A Blessing (five minutes apart) by the same avatar can:
- Make no 'observable' attribute additions or subtractions. Subsequent Blessings can still make observable changes.
- Add one or more attributes.
- Subtract one or more attributes. (see note about common moss)
Keep Blessing for awhile and see if you continue to make attribute changes.
If you make a moss with more than two attributes, please stop Blessing and harvest. Three or more attribute mosses can be valuable for mutagenic recipes and tests.
Try Blessing at single or double attribute towers that have moss attributes that you do not know if you subtract. This can be a quick way to learn which attributes you subtract. For creating mutagen mosses, subtracting an attribute can be as important as adding an attribute.
Please list in your Info like this - Moss: Add: Green, Slimy Subtract: Calico, Hairy, Smelly. And then list your moss attribute affects in the table below.
Mutagen Mosses Needed
Missing Mutagenic moss needed: 6 Calico, Mottled, Reticulated WITHOUT Crackly, Hairy, Prickly 5 Calico, Phosphorescent, Reticulated WITHOUT Fuzzy, Slimy, Striped 6 Hairy, Phosphorescent, Striped WITHOUT Crackly, Dry, Spotted A needed moss can have any other attribute but MUST have the first 3 attributes and NOT the last three. Please chat Ariella if you have or build a needed moss listed. I offer a bouquet of 10 flowers for the missing moss!
Each region's University of Thought can have unique mutagen recipes learned if that region has opened Mutagenics.
When discovering a new mutagen recipe at a certain region's UThought, that recipe will need a moss with 1-3 specific attributes. That moss will also have exactly 3 attributes that are negative or CANNOT be part of the attributes for that moss.
When the recipe calls for a 3 attribute moss, it is a higher likeliness that we no one has that recipe moss. If no one has that mutagen recipe moss then the recipe cannot be made. To have a new mutagen recipe to work on, you have to make the recipe and bring one drop to that region's UThought to prove you know the recipe. So...lack of that moss and that region's mutagen recipes are bottlenecked. Then we need your help to 'build' the needed moss above!
Test of the Messenger and Test of Remembrance Ceremonies can also need specific mosses.
Avatar Moss Chart
This is a chart to show which avatars affect the various moss attributes. Please add your information below.
- + means you have ADDED that attribute
- - you have never added that attribute and have REMOVED it at least once
- ++ you add this attribute very strongly
- -- you subtract this attribute very strongly
- +- if you have BOTH added and removed the attribute.

- Seiun - Not sure but seems that there is some power thing related to each stats. Always the same substraction whas done quick and then the other. Must try some common moss and see if it always come in the same order
- Talos - Where is the Common column?
- Common Moss is the base moss and can not be added or subtracted - Darkfyre
- Darkfyre - Has anyone tested their add/remove on specific skill bonus towers? Just wondering if you only add/remove certain attributes from certain skill bonus towers. (Trying to think like Teppy)
- Solaris - I suspect moss changes are a lot more complicated, seems to be dependent on what kind of moss is already there.
- Aperio - I'm a latecomer to moss growing (though I've done some mutagen work in T3). Has anybody explored the possibility that avatars CONVERT attributes in addition to or instead of ADD/SUBTRACT? I'm drawing upon the thistle simulator but it seem reasonable that if there's still an unknown mechanism after all these Tales, this might be a hypothesis to try.
- merek - Starting with some indeterminate state of common moss, I blessed it a total of 14 times and ended up at the end with Calico, Fuzzy, Hairy, Reticulated, Spongy, Striped. The final attribute (Hairy) wasn't added until the 13th blessing. I suggest that each blessing adds a fraction of an attribute and after the fractions add up to a certain number, the attribute becomes visible.
Moss Research
Currently, Orchid is collecting a lot of data to try to better understand how moss characteristics work.
- She needs MORE data, and YOU can help!
Helping just takes about an hour of your time. Simply go to a tower that has either a Green moss only, or a common moss. (usually a tower towards the end of an aquaduct line). (The goal is to find a tower that has not been blessed much).
- Open a chat tab with Orchid. Chat her the location of the tower, what stat it boosts, and the original state of the moss.
- Then, bless the tower, and chat her the changes, if any.
- Continue blessing every five minutes, and chat any changes to her.
- A minimum of 10 blessings is asked for, but the more blessings the better. Sometimes characteristics only show up after many blessings.
An example of the chat would look like this:
- Example of chat:
- Avanya[15m] Starting moss is Green. Tower is at 2182, 2666, the mid-RP aquaduct. Tower boosts End.
- Avanya[15m] blessed - no change.
- Avanya[10m] blessed - no change.
- Avanya[5m] blessed - added Crackly! moss is now Green, Crackly.
- Avanya [0m] blessed - removed Green! moss is now Crackly.
The hope is that if enough data from different avatars is gathered, we may be able to simulate or figure out how the moss attributes change.
Thanks for your help!
