CP Protection and Grief Prevention Feature Request
Summary
A Watch Dog is basically and enhanced cornerstone. The Watch Dog foot print matches the outlines of a CP and protects a given perimeter around the CP. If placed in the landscape it protects an area corresponding to the max size of a CP (64 section/rectangle).
Watch Dogs are movable by their owners. They can be installed in any building just like a cornerstone, and can be removed the same way. A Watch Dog in the landscape has an image shape (TBD by Devs) that can be clicked on and picked up by its owner.
Watch Dogs can also be installed in guild owned buildings using the same methods. There is a limit to the number of Watch Dogs a guild may have active at any time. Every building has an option or message that indicates if a Watch Dog is installed.
Watch Dogs are granted the same way as cornerstones and decay the same way.
Watch Dogs
Watch Dogs are perimeter guardians.
Their job is to safe-guard an area approximately the size of a fully built out compound + 10 coords.
Watch Dogs can be placed inside a compound to ward off others from building too close or they can be placed in the landscape to protect outdoor buildings or building locations.
Every player receives one Watch Dog per cornerstone they own.
They can be given away to a guild, but once donated they become the permanent property of the guild and cannot be reclaimed.
Their use is optional and limited.
Text of Proposal for Watch Dogs
Watch Dog
- Each player will get one watch dog for each corner stone they own
- Watch dogs can be set inside compounds or outside in the landscape
- Watch dogs guard a finite area and only the owner of the watch dog may build within the guarded area
- Indoor watch dogs guard the area of the compound plus 10 coords on each edge based on the graphic footprint of the compound
- Outdoor watch dogs guard the equivalent area of a maximum sized compound (64 section rectangle) plus 10 coords centered around the location of the watch dog
- Watch dogs may only guard compounds or objects belonging to the dog's owner
- Watch dogs may be picked up and moved
- Watch dogs may not have overlapping territories
- Watch dogs die at the same time a corner stones expires
- Watch dogs may be given to a guild
- Watch dogs given to a guild are permanently owned by the guild
- Guild watch dogs may have their permissions set according to standard guild ownership for using/picking up items
- Guild watch dogs will be inherited according to the existing rules of guild inheritance
- If the guild is dismantled or torn down, all guild watch dogs will die
- There will be a public option on all watch dogs to show the area being guarded
- Watch dog appearance tbd by the developers
- Suggestion: animated, patrolling, stationary, dog, cat, lion, cheetah, selectable colors, or a stone statue
- Suggestion: players may pay for additional cosmetic changes, similar those offered for cats

This is an interesting way to do land ownership. There are some significant changes I'd need to make implementing this due to technical constraints that the server has, or due to ambiguities. For instance, it says that territories may not overlap, but that they're based on distance from the edges of compounds. So that means that every compound expansion would need to check for overlaps with all existing watchdogs. (In fact, every change to watchdog ownership, placement, moving, compound expansion, etc.) Also, can two watch dogs with the same owner overlap? -Teppy
