So, I have an idea for what someone who passes a Leadership Test should receive:

The ability to upgrade Guild Halls and turn them into Markets. The upgrade ability is only available to Leaders, and only on Guild Halls where the Leader is an Elder. You can't take it back after you've started the upgrade. Markets are special in that, in addition to unlimited Boards and Bricks, you can also store a finite amount of debens of anything in it. This scales according to the number of players in the guild (e.g., let's say 1,000db for 1 player, and 100,000 for 250 players). Markets also function as Trading Posts. I'm tempted to require a new Advanced Trade technology.

But more importantly, two Markets owned by the same Leader are linked and you can transfer goods from one to any other. To make this less ridiculous, I'd say that the goods take 12h to transfer and are inaccessible for the duration. An additional way to make this less powerful would be to make the creation of a link between two markets another usage of the ability. (So, at 1 test, you get 1 Market; 2 tests, 2 Markets; 3 tests, 3 Markets or 2 linked Markets; 4 tests, 2 linked Markets and 1 unlinked Market, etc. Right now, at 14 Leadership tests, we could have ...?)

A Leader's access to a Market has nothing to do with ownership, though: once you spend your ability, if the Guild kicks you out, then you have the same access rights as anyone else. You still own it, and you're the only one who can create more links using it, but you won't be allowed to if your permissions are revoked.

Reasoning: Leadership is an expression of trust in a particular person. To build a Market at all, you have to not only pass Leadership tests, but also be the Elder of at least one Guild. To have a useful network of Markets, you need to be an Elder of many Guilds. Now of course, a Leader might decide to just create a bunch of 1-person GHs for their network, but then it'd be a little convenient, but not very useful. My idea for this came from the idea that maybe we could have superstructures of Guilds.

  • What happens if your goods arrive and there isn't space?
    • Idea: how about *forcing* two Markets to swap inventories? But that doesn't work when the available space is asymmetrical.
    • Idea: how about having two modes for Markets, send and receive? "Receive" mode means you can't stash, but and you have to empty it out before you can switch back to "Send".
  • Can you still expand the Guild Hall after it becomes a Market?
