Vegetables
Basic
Vegetables refer to the various edible plants which can be grown and harvested from seeds. All vegetables can be grilled in a Firepit or cooked in a Kitchen; most have other uses as well.
Egypt has access to the five standard vegetables -- Cabbage, Carrots, Garlic, Leeks, and Onions -- the seeds of which are available to paid accounts from Universities of Worship where the Agriculture tech is open.
- Beginning with T7, when you request vegetables from the UWor, you will be given a total of 6 seeds from 2 strains of the same vegetable. The mix could be 1/5, 2/4 or 3/3.
How To Grow
All vegetables are grown from Vegetable Seeds. Vegetables can only be planted in the proper terrain: grass for cabbages and carrots; sand for garlic, eggplants, leeks and onions; and dirt for peppers.
All five standard vegetables and eggplants are grown in the same way. Planting a seed produces a tiny vegetable; this must be watered from a jug quickly or it will die back into a seed. A vegetable that has been watered will soon grow to the next larger size, at which time it should be watered again or it will shrink. When a vegetable reaches maximum size, it may be harvested. A vegetable must grow four times before it can be harvested, which means at least four waterings (more if they shrink on the way).
To sum up: Water upon planting (the required # of times), then repeat each time the vegetable changes size. With the exception of peppers, overwatering (watering more then the vegetable strain requires) will result in it shrinking/dying and eventually reverting to seed.
Reproduction
Based on the data so far, most vegetables appear to seed in waves that pass through Egypt in the -X direction. More data is necessary before we can determine the size, shape, and rate of these waves, and how the waves of different vegetables compare to one another. The easiest way to reproduce seeds at this time is to simply check for seeding periodically, or listen to your local regional channel for reports of seeding.

Location matters
Carrot seed yield seems to be dependent on location. I was getting either 1 or 4 seeds per harvest, depending on where I planted. The difference was only a few coords. I got 4 seeds when I was closer to water, but can't be sure that's the only reason.
Tried next to water and away from water, and it didn't make a difference. Near a sheep pen, however, appears to boost it to 4 seeds. I'll test against another pen in a different camp to verify. - Andara Bledin
- Green Leaf - 2 Carrots, 4 seeds - 8:05pm until at least 10:15pm Akhet I-22 - 3438, 5027 Sinai - Next to water. -Myn 08:48, 18 September 2015 (EST)
wickeddelite's results were away from both water and sheep pens.
I Wonder whether carrot growing is not avatar-specific: since the beginning of the tale I can only grow Osiris Orange, whatever the time of day (Nissim).
- Very strange observation with Carrot Sissue#27. Have never successfully duped seeds in the past, but today I was walking by Camel's Mane Mushrooms and decided to drop a seed. Yielded 4 seeds. So I dropped 10 more, all yielded 4 seeds. Picked the camel's mane in the areas, dropped some more seeds, all yielded 1. I duplicated this behavior on another plot of camel's mane, but could not duplicate it with bleeding hand. Is there something going on with the soil that creates both mushrooms and encourages this seed to yield seeds? Sage 20:17, 18 February 2016 (EST)

- There is some suggestion that growing from 3am to 6am yields an extra seed, however my experience is that Year 1 Akhet I-11, 5.00am (as well as other times between 3am and 6am) did NOT yield extra seeds on either Apep's Crop or Heket's Reaping when grown in River Plains 1462, 2952. - Got 4 seeds Apep's crop at 865,7516 Akhet I-26 5:03AM after doing a lot of other farming nearby.
- Had 2 beds planted simultaneously beside each other: first gave 2 garlic 4 seeds, second gave 0 garlic 1 seed. Further plantings in the same spot all gave 0/1
- Moved about 20 coords north and started planting normally, getting 2/1 for a while until at 5:30AM beds gave 2/4 for about a minute and then dropped to 0/1
- Moved 3 coords north and continued planting, immediately getting 2/4 for at least ten more minutes until I stopped planting --Santomon 17:09, 19 September 2015 (EST)

Research and Tuition
Past Tale Information
- As with onions, overwatering will not kill a pepper plant.
It may reduce your yield, though. - Pepper yields varied. They had the option to water numerous different ways in T6. It was believed that an optimal pepper yield requires a correct "combination" of waterings; moreover, the correct combination could change from day to day.
- Pepper yield appeared to be evaluated based on the growth(size) above a particular point where the pepper is harvestable. As such, optimal yields will have the largest final growth size.

Seed Reproduction
I grew an extra cucumber seed but not sure how it happened. The actions performed before, that i recall: harvested grass, ate food (Sink, main meal), collected resin, foraged herb,
collected wool, slaughtered sheep, received Amun blessing, (accidentally) planted a pepper seed but did not tend to/water. I grew 3 cucumber
seeds after this. One of the seeds, I assume came from the HP blessing. That should account for both extra seeds (blessing and seed repro process).

General Observations
- Seems like you can grow Veggies on any terrain (grass, sand, dirt, clay) but you get 0 yield on the wrong terrain
- They grow waaay faster than last tale
and for now it seems all types and strains have 4 stages (so have to grow 3 times before ready to harvest)With Crossbreeding the number of stages varies. - They don't shrink anymore when they are ready for harvest but they will die after about 5 minutes in this stage leaving 1 seed
- Overwatering will make the veggie shrink 1 stage
So far seed method appears to be the same for all varieties of the same veggie.- Garlic observed some seeds reproducing but not others
Ecology
Morendo has verified (using Ecology 3) that growing vegetables affects the ground water level. This can reduce your ground water level to the point that neither vegetables nor flax will grow. Ground water depletion affects a larger area (need data here) around where you were growing your vegetables. To avoid groundwater depletion, you should rotate your vegetable growing to sites that are far enough apart (need data here) that they don't contribute to further depletion in areas that need to recover. Given sufficient time (need data here), the groundwater appears to move back towards normal levels (100).
Research Seed Log
Because more data is clearly needed for determining the actual seeding time bands, I have put up a Google Spreadsheet for people to log seed times and locations. If you would like to help, feel free to add data to this spreadsheet. Remember: We don't only need times for extra seeds; we also need times for NO extra seeds, to get a complete picture of what's going on. Once I have enough data points, I'll post my findings here, so we can all get a clearer picture of what's going on.
