WikiDebate between JosS and Kalmkitty from November 2014
GHawkins Hello Egypt, and welcome to the DemiPharaoh WikiDebate between JosS and Kalmkitty. The candidates have expressed a preference for a debate on the wiki instead of live, and I'm more than happy to deliver. For those familiar with the debates, you may recall that both JosS and Kalmkitty have already taken part in a debate this tale, but that was some time ago so repeat questions may have a developed a new answer in that time, or the candidates can save some time by doing a quick copy and paste. ;)
GHawkins If you have any questions that you would like to submit during the week, feel free to edit the wiki yourself and notify the candidates, or /chat GHawkins and I will add the question to the wiki and notify the candidates myself. As ever, questions can be made anonymous though comments, discussion, personal attacks, and redundant questions will be tables or asked to be rephrased.
Kalmkitty I have played since Mid T2 and one of the most enjoyable parts of the game are the people. I love meeting new players and offer any help that is needed. I came here from The Sims Online and fell in love with the game. .
JosS I have been playing since mid Tale 2, settled down in Sinai, always stayed there. What I most enjoy is the friendship I have experienced over the years with the people of Egypt. It is always good to be here. .
SECOND QUESTION: If you win this election you will pass the test of the Demi-Pharaoh and be our 38th DP of this tale. There are a variety of points of view on what the role of DP should and shouldn't be, what is yours, especially now that we're in an unprecedented free to play era.
Kalmkitty I feel a DP's duties are to act as a buffer between disputing parties and to act in accordance with the other DP's to resolve serious grievances! JosS I think a DP can help people find the joy of the game back, whenever they might have lost that. Listening to their worries, helping them out with any disputes or troubles they might have.
THIRD QUESTION: Do you think there is a role in ATITD for disruptive players? How should DPs interact with players that intentionally buck community norms?
Kalmkitty I believe the map and game are large enough for people to play the game as they wish as long as they are not interfering with anyone. People who intentionally cause harm to another should be first talked with to see if there is a way they can enjoy the game without being disruptive. I would like to see a change in how conflicts are handled. More like a trial... a small temporary member guild for the DPs and the people in conflict to talk together. The DP's can discuss in the DP guild and decide together how to handle it. JosS As long as people don't harm or bother other player they can do as they please I guess. Whenever people are harmed or otherwise disturbed there is some action needed. Talking first, to see if there is a solution. I like the idea of Kalmkitty (see above) where DP's discuss about these matters and decide together.
Kalmkitty I would have to allow the other DP's to handle the situation. My friends and guildmates would need to seek help from another DP. Or I would ask for assistance and guidance from the more experienced DPs. JosS In such a case the other DP's are to be asked to help out.
FIFTH QUESTION: Under what circumstances would you consider utilizing the tools created by the Anti-Griefer's Act (AGA) law? What do you consider 'griefing'? Do you feel the AGA has been used well so far?
Kalmkitty I would use it when the DPs are in disagreement about banning an account. I feel the people have the right to help make that decision. Griefing to me is the physical disruption of other players game playing by the use of buildings/bonfires/ect. Yes I do think that tool has been effective. JosS When a person keeps acting in a way that other people cant play anymore, or lose their joy and fun, I call that griefing. Whenever it is physically impossible to use the ban-stick, I think a law could help, but only as a last resort. I think it has been used in an effective way sofar.
SIXTH QUESTION: The AGA is one power that the DPs have in their toolkit, what other powers would you like to see DPs hold, in the interests of improving game play and making you more effective in meeting your stated goals?
Kalmkitty only the ability to warp to an offender rather than chase them down. JosS I second that
SEVENTH QUESTION: Does anyone have access to login to your account? (i.e., would any person other than yourself ever have access to your ban powers)? Note: spouselog does not allow access to ban powers.
Kalmkitty Absolutely not! JosS NO!
EIGHTH QUESTION: Have you played ATITD under other names in this tale or past ones, and if so, what were the names you played under?
Kalmkitty I briefly changed my name to Kitten but other than that no other names. This tale I do have an alt by the name of Sleepykitty, who I created out of lack of things to do and also as a refresher for next tale. (tho I am seriously going to miss the food! ) JosS I always used this name, except when I was playing on Bastet: I was Doc there
NINTH QUESTION: If the general consensus of the rest of the DPs were that a person should not be banned, but you felt strongly that they should, what would you do?
Kalmkitty I believe in the role of DP it would be majority rule. Tho I would keep a close eye on the offender to ensure they are not continuing bad behavior. JosS When there has been a proper discussion between DP's and a majority feels that the player can stay, who am I to act otherwise? I believe in cooperation!
TENTH QUESTION: Select a question that you wish had been asked during this debate and answer it for yourself. Also, answer the question from the other candidate.
JosS's Question: Do you think the process of considering banishment should be transparent to the average Egyptian or should it be done behind closed doors?
JosS It would be good if we could be transparent, like a court. But airing peoples dirty laundry would in the end just add to the problems so keeping it private seems wise..
Kalmkitty Answer to JosS' question.
Kalmkitty's Question
JosS Answer to Kalmkitty's question.
Kalmkitty Answer to own question.
CANDIDATE STATEMENT: Please wrap up now and tell Egypt what they will get in a DP by voting for you. And if you do indeed want them to vote for you, please include why you would like them to.
JosS I have been involved in many projects in Egypt over the years and I will be in the future, but my main goal has been and always will be to help, teach and mentor people, just the way I do in rl. I am a teacher for more than 30 years now and the skills I have learned doing that, have been proven very useful in Egypt. I also am a choirmaster for many, many years. Bringing people's voices together is what I do best. And isn't that what we all want for Egypt?
GHawkins Thank you to both candidates for your participation, and to our readers for their attention. Go forth and vote!
