OE03
Mottled, Smelly, Spotted
This page serves as a repository of research notes on Toxin OE03, the second mutagen unlocked in Old Egypt by Renard. It uses 3 Mottled, Smelly, Spotted (Negative to Calico,Dry,Slimy) moss and 3 Spiderling mushrooms.
First mutation test: L-Vampire R-Silken
No change to either flower.
Second mutation test: L-Silken R-Vampire
An IO on Vampire is missing. No change is apparent on the silken.
Next step
Not much to go on yet. There is still a pretty broad range on what gene has been affected on the right. While still facing so many unknowns, a useful double cross is Delicate-Fracture. Both have few genes with noticeable effect, and if we can determine exactly what gene is affected on the Fracture it will tell us what was affected on Silken too since they both have the same number of genes.
Third mutation test: L-Delicate R-Fracture
On the left, a yellow has been removed from the outer stamen. This suggests that the gene affected on the left splint is toward the center.
Fracture is now a Semidwarf, so a Giant allele has been broken and the mutagen affects the left part of the genome when the flower is on the right splint.
Fourth mutation test: L-Fracture R-Delicate
On the left, no change is apparent to the Fracture. Genes 12-14 are not part of any functional allele of Fracture, so they are a likely target.
On the right, the outer stamen is missing some magenta, further evidence that the gene affected on the right splint is left of center.
