Vineyards and Wine

Vineyard Wine Wine/Finding Your Phenotype

As is my nature, I dove into wine without researching a bit of it. Originally, as I don't do Worship, I never anticipated bothering making either wine or beer.
However, due to the unexpected events of new years, and my involvement with Guilds/Stranger_Science, I came to need Spirits of Grain for my Alchemy Experiments. Thus, I was compelled to build an Alembic, for which I need wine or beer with which to distill. I had a stack of nails, and some vine clippings, but no grain seeds, so wine it is!
The clippings I had were an assortment arbitrarily collected, some gifts from friends when I declared my interest, some from a DPA'd chest, some grafted from deals I brokered for other people.
Without researching a word of the process, I plopped down 27 vineyards in a nice brick, 27 being to me as 7 is to Pharaoh, and threw clippings in at random.
And then I saw the tend screen for the first time. Realized I had never heard anyone say anything about how the grow their wine, I just see vineyards everywhere, and I guess I just thought it was kind of a grow itself thing.
Yeah yeah, I forgot, not even digging a hole is a simple thing in Egypt.
After extensive reading, I decided to at least approach it carefully the rest of the way. I've charted out all of my vineyards on the wiki and am recording their Tend Cycle. As I do want a variety of wine qualities as end product for my Alchemy Experiments with the Alembic the chaotic variety of vines will actually be useful. I even have a vine that I couldn't find the tend table for, and get to practice developing the tend table for Spicy#233.

Early in a vine cylce, or when acid/color/quality/skin/sugar is near zero, don't disregard a possible tend for having a big negative in that stat, as the affect will be muted
Work up a list of "optimal" tend, and compare against each vineyards tend cycle. Do some basic min/maxing.
Study different wines statistics affects on Alembic.
Start cross breed project to develop an Alembic specific strain.

Spicy#3 11
  • Floor indicates a tending attempt in which the result included 1 or more stats as 0. Retest at higher threshold necessary, I try to remember to bold the floored value, to make retest easier.
  • Tested indicates a tending that did not include any 0 factors, and should be accurate
  • Confirmed indicated a tending in which a previous "tested" tending was used, and results matched expectation.
  • Doh! indicates a tending that . . . .ok it means I screwed up and only have partial information
