Wine 101

First let me start by saying that wine is not something that one can do if they have no patience. Wine making is an artform that is relatively easy to master if you are willing to dedicate the time to it.

Stage 1

1. Prepare an area in one of your CP's to put your wine barrels in.

• Make sure to include a box/chest to store your bottled wine in.

2. Either carve or trade for a bunch of barrel taps, each barrel of wine will require 1 to seal it and start the fermenting process.

3. Choose a location to build your vineyards. Pretty much anyplace is good unless it's occupied already.

• Try to start with a location near home or by someplace you spend a lot of time at so that tending doesn't get forgotten.

4. Build your vineyards!

• I would suggest a set of 9 vineards in each flavor location in a pattern of 3 rows of 3.

• Also I suggest building a sign next to the vineyards to put the tending methods you need to grow what you are aiming for. I will have an example of such a sign once the first vine's tending methods have been determined.

5. Plant your first vine(s).

6. If you don't have many cuttings at this point you should get your clippings every other tending method. If you only have 1 vine cutting I suggest waiting until you get at least all 9 vineyards filled with vines and then take a cutting from each to be safe.

7. Add the vineyard location to the flavor map and label it with the region and coords (use the format of other locations on the map).

8. Decide what kind of wine you want to make (YES there is a difference!).

• High Alcohol - go for grapes and sugar
• Distillation - go for grapes, skin, and color OR grapes and sugar (depending on what level of spirits you are aiming for)
• Sweet - go for grapes and sugar
• High Quality - go for grapes and quality

Stage 2

1. Visit the guild Vine Tending Chart page to help you determine the best method to reach your goal (Or you can just use Izzy's quick tend charts once they are ready).

2. Place the tending methods you are going to use on the sign next to the set of vineyards.

3. Things to remember:

• NEVER let grapes or vigor reach 0 or your vine will die!
• ALWAYS tend the vines as close to 0 vigor as possible without taking it all the way to 0 to get the best results out every vineyard set every time.

4. Your tendings are done! Congratulations on making it this far. You are now ready for Stage 3!

Stage 3

1. Build your barrel now (before you harvest the grapes) if you haven't already.

2. Harvest your grapes and put them all in the barrel.

3. With a barrel tap in your inventory you are now ready to seal the barrel and begin the fermenting process.

• The fermenting process is slow and takes time. However the higher the RS is in the barrel the faster it turns to alcohol up to the 12.1% mark.
  • RS turns to alcohol at a rate of .1:.2 (this means that for every .1 RS you have the potential for .2 alcohol)

4. Now it's patience time there is nothing to do but wait now and check the levels you are aiming for by siphoning a taste from the barrel.

5. Congratulations on barreling your first wine. This concludes Wine 101 and you are now ready for Wine 201
