Wine list | Beer list

This page is about the Stillwater Vintner's and Brewers Guild [sic]. We are located at 1623, 3579, south of the Stillwater chariot, near the SBody. We have three main goals.

  1. Assist players new to brewing and making wine in getting started by providing basic facilities, and lots of friendly help and advice.
  2. Provide a means for people to share information (such as flavor spots and yeast spots), as well as trade grapes, beers, wines, etc.
  3. Run tasting events for members of the guild and the Stillwater community

So join up and let's talk about everyone's favorite subject: booze, and lots of it!

Nyasara - Elder and founder

Facilities

The guild hall is the only facility right now, but we hope to grow quickly. We need to make several things. For mats in parentheses, if you provide the mats, Nyasara can make the items (except for small barrels). Things at the top are generally higher priority

Small warehouse 100 boards, 1000 bricks, 10 cut stone
Tasting tables (4) 24 Oyster Shell Marble, 80 boards
Wine barrels (40) 40 small barrels (4000 boards, 80 copper straps), 2000 nails (167 iron), 240 boards

Skilled labor

Coopers

There are many things a new vintner and brewer needs, but perhaps nothing more expensive to learn than Cooperage to make small barrels. To that end, if you have Cooperage, we ask that you be willing to make small barrels for members who provide mats (boards, straps, wood) and a small tip. If you are willing to do so, please list yourself below. If you are not a member of SVAB, but are willing to make barrels for us, please add yourself and that you are not in the guild, then /chat an Elder and we will make sure you get a space reserved for limited tastings.

Name Location Tip request
Your name Where you live What you want in addition to mats (if anything)

Blacksmiths

Between vineyards, barrels, and guild growth, we will need a lot of boards. Carp blades aren't too hard, but anyone who can quickly bang out high quality blades will also be handy.

Glassmakers

We will need high, medium, and low quality glasses for the tasting tables. If you can make good wine glasses, please help us out.

Guild wines

The guild will support and have facilities for making guild wines. These will have four purposes, listed below.

Notebook focused

One of our goals is to help members fill their wine notebooks. To this end, several barrels will be devoted to fermenting long-term wines (like 14%) for the higher end notebooks. Guild members will be asked to contribute grapes, and anyone who contributes will be entitled to enough unique wines to fill these harder requirements. Starting some 14% barrels is an early priority as these take a long time to age.

"Fun" blends

Some barrels will also be dedicated to fun blends made up of random member's grapes. At the beginning of each vintage, each member should bring 21 grapes (decent sugar and quality, please), from one of their vineyards. We'll put three sets of grapes in each barrel, let them go to 12% or 13%, bottle, and then age for 3-5 vintages. Every vintage we'll crack a few of these fun bottles and see what's come out.

Spirits

With enough members, we should be able to support local and other chemists with spirits for their needs (including members who are also chemists). We will have some barrels focused on tannin and high sugar production, and trade for guild materials as needed. Active guild members will be able to use these wines and spirits for free.

Festival wines

The last type of wines we'll make are to support festival needs of members, neighbors, and friends. As with spirits, we'll trade for guild materials and members will be freely supported.

Beer

The other main focus is, of course, beer. We are looking for a more knowledgeable brewer to head up development of ideas, needs, and ways the guild can cooperate on this. Please /chat and elder if you would like to take this on. However, some initial things.

Barley support

We will provide Grain fertilizer to help members grow barley. We ask for a 15% contribution of your crop to the guild if you use guild fertilizer to help us grow a barley stockpile for guild events. If we get enough donations of Toad Skin shrooms from guild members, we will also supply weed killer, with a 25% contribution back to the guild if you use both.

Kettles

Members will be able to borrow kettles to use for mass yeast testing or brewing to supplement their own stock.

Spirits

We will also use beer to contribute to spirit manufacturing for types of spirits where beer will work better.

Events

We will offer at least one tasting event per vintage (probably a daytime and nighttime to support players on different schedules/continents). Beer will be part of the tasting events. Other events may be run as well, depending on ideas and interest (perhaps a "mystery" beer making event similar to fun blends where some kettles are put out, made public, sealed at the first yeast, and members can add ingredients at random times?).

Other activities

Flavor research and prospecting

Proceeds from donations and sale of wines will go to making guild vineyards, spaced out around Stillwater searching for rare flavors. Guild members are asked to tend these vineyards if they run by them or when they have spare time (this will be part of being an "active" member). When we find rare flavors, we'll build up more in that area, and donors/active members can "buy out" some of these vineyards for their own use. If we pool resources, it will be easier to build many yards and find more flavors.

We will support yeast searching as well, with guild kettles made available for mass yeast testing. This page will have a map of flavor and yeast spots once the research gets rolling.

Research

Part of the intent of this guild is to foster cooperation and research amongst members. We'll start subpages (and add to the Wine page) on various questions that are still unanswered, like...

  • Is there a predictable pattern to flavor spots/yeast spots?
  • How does the quality curve on wines work?
  • What exactly is acid doing?
  • Is tannin good for anything besides spirits?
  • Multi-yeast beers, how do they work?
  • And so on...
