Talk:Breezeway Ban Act
From A Tale in the Desert

The reasons I started this petition are as follows:
- They cause huge lag. I don't know if it can be fixed by developers, but I also haven't seen them try. This law is to ask for the Dev's attention to address this problem. Or ultimately force them by law to do something about it. I don't see any reason for a PhysicsVeto. Anything can be programmed. Cornerstones can be returned to their respectful owner.
- More on lag: they cause so much lag that my FPS drops by at least 50% whenever I stand next to a Breezeway and have the camera turned that way. The FPS drop goes away when I turn my camera away from it.
- Crashes: When I work on my laptop (which is a modern one with good graphical hardware, running on Vista), it crashes in some cases, when near a Breezeway. I've heard more cases about this. I haven't devcalled it yet, coz I can't pinpoint the exact problem with this.
- Ugly or pretty: A lot of people find them to be pollution to the scenery. That in itself is reason to make a law out of it. The game has a law system for a reason. I personally wouldn't mind them if they don't cause (too much) extra lag. There are many beautiful and many ugly things in the game. This is just one of them that is personal. However, this petition at least starts a public debate about it and it will soon be apparent what the majority thinks about them. So far it's about 50/50.
- Use of the Breezeways: The Breezeway was introduced with much fuss and role play, and that in itself is not a bad thing. And it was introduced by popular demand for the possibility to build larger compounds. However, most Breezeway's I've seen so far, aren't even larger than the max size for a normal compound. And half of them are completely or near empty. A majority of the Breezeway compounds are put up to show off, or for whatever reason. And not for what they were intended for.
- Viability of this petition/law: I've heard people say that this law will never pass (even if it would get enough votes). However, I once again want to point out that this game has a law system for a reason. If a majority of the people of Egypt want something to happen, or want to get rid of something, making a Law for or against it is in my opinion THE way to do it. There is no other way to do this. It is a well-known fact that Teppy loves drama, especially when well role played. I'd say that this is a perfect example of how the people of Egypt can and should speak up if they do not agree with something that is going on.

- III, V and alternative (2) looks like a PhysicsVeto to me, how do you magically recover materials or convert between compounds types or manufacture cornerstones?
- You could address two out of three of the stated reasons for this law by a feature request / bug report to the developers ("make breezeways faster, and fix the crash case please"). They're not law fodder.
- The rest of it then boils down to "I want to tear down other peoples compounds because I think they are ugly", which is not something I'd personally vote for.

- I realize that this law is very strict and will hurt some people, especially those who do use the Breezeway cp's as intended (size increase).
- Teppy will rate it accordingly as feature request or will even veto it, if he thinks that's the way to go. I partly agree on that with Inkoaten. But also please see my comments above. It's food for discussion to say the least.

- To clarify, what I am suggesting is that you create two petitions. One petition has just the feature request (which is basically "fix the client issues that Breezeways cause, please"). I'd sign that. The second petition is actually the *law* part of the law ("ban building of breezeways 'cause they're ugly"). I wouldn't sign or vote for that second petition. But currently, because it's a single petition, I have to sign/vote for all or none of it - so you lose my vote altogether.
