This is a problem for every customer - UPDATE YOUR BILLING PAGES.
- Take off the PayByCash crap and put up PayPal information.
- Provide package-without-tshirt information on package pages.
- Make this information readily available offline (i.e. link from wiki under "Links")
- Have a "Place Billing Related GM Call" button on the billing tab.
- Work with PayPal to have a form with player name, subscription type, address, etc. for offline purchases -OR-
- Since the billing interface is online, it's ineffective(stupid) to present a credit card information box when an expired/quit account logs in. Instead, provide some kind of 'limbo' where they can submit billing calls or choose a subscription package. -OR- refer them to the form you created for (#5)
- There's a good reason T3's population dropped after 12 months. Sheep, fireworks, and cornerstones don't cut it for senior players. Add some incentive for repeat purchases, make an event out of the 6th/12th/18th/etc. month of the Tale by rolling out new packages. After the 6th month, make the T-Shirt optional just like the music CD.
- Add financial incentive to packages. They currently all boil down to $13.2/month - your consumer base is 20+ so can do the math, and many know basic economic principles (money today is worth more then money tomorrow). Figure out how much interest you save/can get if we pay you up front vs. monthly and pass that savings along!
If you don't believe me, ask! You have the unique advantage to be able to talk directly to your consumers. Most marketers would wet themselves for such a situation.
Response
Teppy: Some suggestions are easily done and worthwhile (#1,#2,#4), some more effort than they are worth (#3,#5), and some are by my judgement not wise for us to do (#6,#8)
Teppy: Thanks for the thoughts and the email - some will be done.
Teppy: On subscription costs more generally - I like the notion of "pay what you want." But done in a way where by paying more you get bonuses that don't affect gameplay.
Teppy: The multi-month packages are a step in that direction...
Teppy: (A baby step)
Teppy: Because they're really not intended as a financial incentive - the difference in actual dollars is meaningless to most who play.
Teppy: Even cornerstones only amount to bypassing an insignificant amount of Compound Maintenance. (Though there's a huge psychological difference between a compound that you must maintain and one that stands perfectly on it's own.)
Quin: I was thinking even small things (like being able to get the veggie seeds/default pyro shapes from 1 university instead of doing a tour), of even some of the mentorship awards in that you created would be more enticing
Teppy: Yeah, I'm open to swapping around the goodies. I do want to be careful to not make success in the game tied to how much $ you put in.
Quin: Yes, I do like that idea... and really the redecoration option for 12-months is a really good incentive (though make it clear if you can get more then one per tale, perhaps?)
Teppy: I think it's great that there is no tie between RL circumstances and status in ATITD. (I've come to know many players over the years.)
Teppy: Anyway, back to code for now - thanks.
Welcome!
Welcome! Many know me better as Quinton of T3. I spent my time last tale developing an advanced public works, called "Quin's Resource Center" near the University of Architecture in the Desert of Shades.
This Tale, I am living in Nomads' Paradise as a key member of Paradise Public Works as planner and general handyman. If you live in Nomads' Paradise, come pay us a visit, or possibly even join!
During Tale 3, I arrived mid-tale and departed roughly 4 months prior to the end of the tale. This was because I found myself here instead of doing homework for college! As such, I will probably have to disappear shortly after winter break. My goal before I go is to build the infrastructure to ensure Nomads' Paradise is a place I can return to once my hiatus is over. I hope to be back later in the tale (perhaps July 2009).
