Debate between Lazybum and Peacefulness July 2015
GHawkins: '/me cue intro music.
GHawkins: Hello Egypt and welcome to the latest round of the Demipharaoh elections. I am your host GHawkins, and I am setting up a wiki debate as requested by a candidate.
Lazybum: Well... first off Hi, I'm Lazybum. I have been playing since the very end of t1 but really started playing in tale2. Throughout my time in egypt I have dabbled in pretty much everything from brick making to wine making. If there is something new coming out I try to get my hands on it first off so I can help document how it works and be able to help others who might want to get into that field.I enjoy helping out anyone with anything and always put other people before myself.
Peacefulness: :) Hello! I discovered ATITD about 2.5 years ago after a long search for an MMO that suited me. As you can guess from my name, I don't find violence to be entertaining. I enjoy the game's complexity and the numerous opportunities for self-expression that it offers. The puzzles are engaging and varied. When I grow weary of one, there are many choices to turn to. It is refreshing to mentor newer players, and I frequently talk with more experienced players as well, as I look to deepen my understanding of this place we enjoy.
SECOND QUESTION: If you win this election you will be the 48th DemiPharaoh of this long tale, which is winding down. In your opinion, is this just a ceremonial position at this point or is there something that DemiPharaohs can still do to contribute to this game?
Lazybum: One of use will become the 48th DemiPharaoh, that is alot of dp out there. I do believe that more dp's are a good thing this late in the tale. And yes we will be able to contribute to the game this late in the tale... both of us are active players who get themselves into social interactions almost every day. With the end of the tale being so near, some people might get antsy and start doing random things like blow up cs's or other things... Yes. I did blow up the DoN Cs like a week ago, but it was for testing the new law which Yendor put down and It was fixed right away. And thanks to that we know how the limitations of the law works.
Peacefulness: All players can still contribute to this tale, regardless of whether they are a DP or not. I have noticed quite a few players returning to the game, and they will continue to find a welcoming community that is anxiously preparing for Tale 7. Besides, with one more DP election, there will be 49 of us, and that is a beautiful number, is it not?
THIRD QUESTION: What has been your greatest contribution to Egypt during this tale?
Lazybum: My greatest conribution to egypt this tale... thats a hard one. as I havnt done one contribution that I would value more than another. It could be showing a noob how to progress through egypt and giving them a water jug or donate x amount of mats to x university. Maybe the contributions I was doing early this tale to help map all the ingredients for cooking... But at the end of the day I think it is helping others out, especially the new players.
Peacefulness: That is a tricky question, especially for a person who does not seek out the limelight! My greatest contributions to the game can be found in my individual conversations with other players, whether it be through encouragement, passing on knowledge, or simply listening as they share what is on their mind that day. I cannot point to a single project or accomplishment and label that as a monumental achievement, yet I work daily to continue building a strong community here.
Lazybum: Everyone in egypt I consider my friend so any conflict would affect me. From the point of complaint till the end the parties envolved would just be player 1 and player 2 to me and I would judge fairly and bring it up with other DP's if there could be any conflict on my part as the judge.
Peacefulness: When I am in a conflict with another player, I do my best to not make hasty decisions. In most situations, it is possible to find a compromise that gives each party a chance to gain, as long as they are willing to give as well. If I were asked to mediate in a situation where there were questions about my ability to be impartial, I would certainly offer to find a mediator who is more distant. My first choice would be another DP, since they have been identified as leaders.
FIFTH QUESTION: Do you think there is a role in ATITD for disruptive players? How should DPs interact with players that intentionally buck community norms?
Lazybum: ATITD is a place for everyone... some people enjoy making it hard on others. There is a point where it becomes more than disruptive and starts hurting the community as a whole. Usually the people who are disruptive just want attention, and they dont care if it is negative sadly =/.
Peacefulness: Within reason, a little disruption is a good thing. When it goes beyond what is reasonable, a DP is expected to be mature, calm and level-headed, as opposed to fighting fire with fire. Conversations should be held in more local channels when possible, and if available, other DPs should be involved in the situation before taking extreme measures, such as banning.
SIXTH QUESTION: If you had the power to change things for the better, what other powers would you like to see DPs have that would help them be more effective leaders in the game?
Lazybum: Changing DP powers... this is a question I have been thinking of for many a tale. I personally think Dp's should be elected per region rather than all of egypt... that position is held for the Pharaoh himself. Within region dp's, I would have it so they could banish people from their reigion. where they were not allowed to build or drop items to not even be able to travel past 20 coords from the cs or use reigion chat. just so they can move through egypt with ease still. If a person gets banned from every reigion they would be banished from egypt.
Peacefulness: One possible "DP power" would be a reduction in the fee required to announce events on the game calendar. This would make it easier for players to coordinate group events, such as festivals, vigils, digs, cement stirs, acro lines, etc...
SEVENTH QUESTION: If the general consensus of the rest of the DPs were that a person should not be banned, but you felt strongly that they should, what would you do?
Lazybum: Punishment will be handled with just cause. It will not be a permanent ban but maybe a week or a day depending on what they did. Just to let them know even if they butter up the other dp's they are not safe and will serve their punishment.
Peacefulness: In that situation, I would certainly hesitate. Sleep on it. Step away and allow the other DPs to lead. I would maintain an open conversation with my fellow leaders. I consider permanent bans a tool to be used as a last resort.
EIGHTH QUESTION: What do you see as the biggest social change that needs to happen in Egypt in the next tale? How/Would they bring that change about?
Lazybum: Well.. I doubt it will ever happen but, I would love to see only 1 University per region so people that like that branch would live there for better organization. You would be able to contribute to any university through the schools but only learn and unlock from that university. It would be like having an Art district, ect.
Peacefulness:
NINTH QUESTION: When you come across a large camp eligible for DPAing, what do you do? What if there are more people there than just you waiting for the timer to click over allowing ownership?
Lazybum: I've never been a fan of DPA because it seems as if everyone coming for the large and small camps are just there to get quick and easy items. I would prefer a DPA law that would instead box up everything a person owns and set it at their home location in hopes of them coming back.
Peacefulness: In all liklihood, I would not remain at that location. Though it is tempting to claim ownership of a departed player's belongings, I know that with enough hard work and persistence, I can build or trade for those items.
TENTH QUESTION: Does anyone have access to login to your account? (i.e., would any person other than yourself ever have access to your ban powers)? Note: spouselog does not allow access to ban powers.
Lazybum: As of right now Balthazarr has my login information but if I do become DP even though I trust him compleatly I would change my pw so no one would have access to ensure the saftey of egypt.
Peacefulness: There is no other person who has access to my account.
CANDIDATE STATEMENT: Please wrap up now and tell Egypt what sort of DP they can expect by voting for you and what would you like to be best known for as a player?
Lazybum: Obviously I want your vote but instead of telling you what they can expect from me if you voted me for DP, I will tell you what I would expect Peacfulness to bring to the table as a DP. I hope she will do the same for me when she answers. .... I see Peacefulness as a kind and loving person of egypt, always busy doing something like running festivles right now. She is a very social person that enjoys to help people out and reaches out to everyone to participate to help others. As a DP I would see her as a fair person that would console the other DP's before taking action if she thought action was needed, but before that thought would cross her mind, she would msg the parties in question and try to solve the problem diplomaticly.
Peacefulness: I like your ideas, Lazybum! As a DP, I expect Lazybum to continue to infuse Egypt with his own brand of humor and good will. His generosity is shown regularly. Underneath a humorous name lies a hard-working Egyptian who consistently works toward his goals with an eye toward building up a rich community. But you might want to watch your back when he starts playing with explosives!
GHawkins: Thank you to both of you for taking the time to answer these question. Egyptians can add additional questions below, and are encouraged to contact you directly if they do so to give you notice to respond.
