OE06
Phosphorescent, Reticulated, Spotted
This page serves as a repository of research notes on Toxin OE06, the sixth mutagen unlocked in Old Egypt by Renard. It uses 1 Phosphorescent, Reticulated, Spotted (Negative to Fuzzy, Green, Mottled) moss and 3 Beehive, 2 Cobra Hood, 3 Spiderling, 2 Toad Skin mushrooms.
First mutation test: L-Vampire R-Silken
On Vampire, a yellow is missing, and yellow is visible down the entire stamen of Silken.
Right-Silken 6(O)
Second mutation test: L-Silken R-Vampire
Silken does not appear to have changed, on Vampire a yellow has been replaced by a Cyan.
Left-Silken 1-3(R) Right-Vampire 4(Y)
Discussion and next step
The right was characterized perfectly, but we know a lot about the left as well. Silken shows that the gene affected is on the far left, the first three for Silken's genome. That actually eliminates all genes above 2 for Vampire, so:
Left-Vampire 1(I) Left-Silken 1-2(R)
Let's look at some larger genomes
Blush: GROR V GOOO V Left-Splint: 1-3 Right-Splint: 8-9
Clarity: IRIR IOIO IYIY Left-Splint: 1-3 Right-Splint: 11-12
Crown: UROO UROO UROO V UR Left-Splint: 1-4 Right-Splint: 11-13
Morning: 'IRRR' IYYY IYYY UYYY Left-Splint: 1-4 Right-Splint: 13-15
A Crown-Clarity double cross looks promising.
Third mutation test: L-Clarity R-Crown
A cyan in Clarity's outer stem has been replaced by Magenta. The magenta petal color allele has been broken, but not replaced with yellow.
Left-Clarity 2(R)
Right-Crown 11(O)
Fourth mutation test: L-Crown R-Clarity
Clarity outer stamen has lost a yellow, crown has added Magenta to the outer and middle stamen.
Left-Crown 2(R)
Right-Clarity 11(I)
Next step
Has the genome range been narrowed enough to examine Dusk or Crimson?
Dusk: GROR GORR UYYY GYOR IY GRRO
Left-splint: 3-4
Right-splint: 21-22
Crimson: GYOR IOOO IOO IO IO IYYY IYY IY IY UOOO UYYY
Left-splint: 4-6
Right-splint: 30-32
Left-Dusk Right-Crimson looks like it has a high chance of not having a clear interpretation. However, putting an I onto the right splint would provide a clear answer based on how the stamen reacts.
Fifth mutation test: L-Crimson, R-Dusk
Completely unchanged, but the sixth test will let us narrow down the right splint enough to give a solid interpretation. Either Os were exchanged or Rs were exchanged.
Sixth mutation test: L-Vampire, R-Crimson
A color change is visible in the middle and inner stamen. Right-Crimson 31(U)
This however is still not enough to give a solid interpretation to test 5.
Next step
Despite the success with Crimson on the Right, Energy and Dusk still have not been defined on the right. However, if we can narrow the left splint a little more, we can fully interpret test 5, which will make the effect on Right-Dusk explicit.
Energy: VVVVVUYYYUYYY Right-Splint: 12-13
Vampire is getting a lot of use, but there aren't any better options at this point.
Seventh mutation test: L-Vampire, R-Energy
No change to the stamen, Right-Energy 13(Y)
Eighth mutation test: L-Morning, R-Dusk
On the left, the outer stamen is unchanged, but the middle and inner stamen have lost cyan.
The outer north petal set has lost color, the outer south petal set is now Cyan. GRRO has become GRRR.
Left-Morning 3(R) Right-Dusk 22(O)
Hence:
Left-Crimson 6(O)
Everything has been fully characterized but Left-Energy, which I won't even try to pin down.
