Guilds/Stranger Science/Seeking Balance
Buried in forge work, when I heard Windsong holler from over the mountain "He's talking!" Confused I wandered over to where Sedjet and Windsong were, and suddenly I realized thestranger was with them -
thestranger: Have you found a balance
Basilius: no. I have some theories
Basilius: but no balance yet
Basilius: I only have grain spirits of fire to work with and eugenius was only testing water, so I've been trying to distill some more varieties
Basilius: tricky machine that Alembic. . . very touchy
Sedjet: and unfortunately I do not have the technology to help, so I've been helping them by gathering herbs and such
thestranger: I do not think the quality of the water will hinder the product just the productivness
thestranger: much like your chemistry, the better the water the more output
Basilius: That was something I wondered about
Basilius: I think I understand the spirits
Windsong: Do we need an Alchemy Bench? Is that coming?
Basilius: but have only had 2 wines to test with..ok
Basilius: so then the real issue is
Basilius: We are trying to take a certain amount of Earth, and just enough fire or air, to create a balance? or are we trying to take it to "negative weight"? so that it rises?
thestranger: an alchemy bench is needed to concentrate a mixture and make it useful
thestranger: Like the Elixir's of Travel I have
Basilius: I need a way to test two things against each other to find out their true weight . . .that I feel is where I'm sort of stuck on the "Random" resource use
thestranger: they come in different concentrated forms
Basilius: do we think that "any" component of sun works the same, or is it that each component of sun has it's own balance?
thestranger: each component has its own balance
Windsong: How long until we can make the Alchemy Bench, I don't see it as an option at this time
thestranger: and a balance that might work might not be balanced at all
thestranger: [OOC: more recipies than what tale1 had are going to be introduced and are in progress atm]
Basilius: I"m still struggling with the variation between sun moons stars and spirits, versus fire water air and earth
Basilius: It seems like Stars are Earth, Sun is Fire, Moon is Air, and Spirits are water
thestranger: water is neutral
Windsong: Should all testing be done with Water spirits? Does it make a difference?
Basilius: But I assume it's just the predominate balance, so that something that has (arbitrary numbers to show balance) 3 fire value, 0 air, 2 water and 2 earth, would be a Sun . . .
Basilius: Windsong he stated quality makes a difference in production effeciency, not success. So water fire life air and ra will give us differnt. . .volume? at the end, but not effect mixture succes
thestranger: This is my understanding.
Basilius: so when we add the values of the Moon component, the Sun component, nad the stars components in the mixture . . . .I wonder is it ALL of the elemental make up that is mixing, or just the predominate? Would that example "sun" add (3,0,2,2) or just 3 fire? or just 1 fire for being past balance of earth
Basilius: this is where I'm lost without being able to test Alchemical Weight of two object against each other
thestranger: Not only does the weight have to be correct but some ingredients attract each other while others repel
Basilius blinks
Basilius: wha . . .I hadn't even . .thought of that
Basilius paces back and forth chewing on the tip of his beard.
Basilius: How do we test these things?
Basilius: So far it's been somewhat random tests by many people, Eugenius studying old works of how alchemy worked in other era's and lands, but without real frame of reference we are al playing guessing games
Basilius kicks his assimilation bath, hoping a new idea will drip out.
Basilius: Ok, so, one thing that frustrates me with the bath is there is no indication of success or fail .. . I start a process, and next thing I know my bath is sitting empty and waititng, no remnants, no horrible smells, no loud clanging alarms.
Basilius: Is it possible that the bath is a multi stage tool? and we aren't completeing the process?
Sedjet: Or is it timed, like acid baths?
Sedjet: Rather, like we get better yields at better times for salts
Basilius: we have no way of interrupting the process tho
Sedjet: Well, here goes that idea...
Basilius: I'm truly stumped on how to progress other than random testing. I guess I pick one Stars, one moon, and one sun and just try my way thru all . . . . .
Basilius scratches his head counting . . .
Basilius: um seven to the third possibilities
thestranger: the bath works simply. 5 minutes you either make or not
thestranger: with the amount of combinations; finding a working one is a bit difficult
thestranger: for each 3 items added there are 343 different combinations just regarding the amount used
thestranger: With just the items I have recieved there is 2.7 million combinations
Basilius: however we are lucky I think
Basilius: because if it is truly the Alchemical Weight (AW) of the components that matter, rather than the specific components, we should get lucky somewhere in the middle
thestranger: and that is only using 7 of each item
Basilius: I guess my only thought is . . . put in 1 dbn of stars, 1 dbn of moon, and test thru the 7 dbns of sun.
Basilius: need to find a way to shorten the list.....
thestranger: you could eliminate different value's
thestranger: while it is possible that you would need 7 of each
thestranger: it is not probable
Basilius: yeah, I was guessing not
Basilius: my tests have been various amounts trying to equal 7, to match the waters volume
Basilius: so like 2 sun 1 moon 4 stars
Basilius: but I can't create balance in seven. No combination of x+y+x=7 yields x+y=z
thestranger: Recipe's will appear soon
thestranger: [OOC: waiting on coding]
Basilius: I have been using red sand and white sand as my 2 primary test components
Basilius: Red sand is special and I had some hopes it's qualty of specialness would show itself with the assimilation bath..
thestranger: I would test 765 764 764 762 761, 754
thestranger: Its is ok; I am departing.
Basilius: I see
Basilius: oh I had something similar on my thoeries of balance page after your talk on the values of water and fire that I missed last visit.
Basilius: of course!
Basilius: That would weight it towards the one, providing the element balance at the end of being earth, but with the predominating air and fire in total would unbalance it to rise, but but . . oh I think I have plan!
Windsong: <heaven help us all>
Windsong: oops did I say that out loud?
Basilius dashes about his boxes madly scoopoing things into relativisticly shrinking piles.
And as usual he was gone, as suddenly as he appeared . . . .
