User:Blueshift/Insect Rarity
Here's my theory on insect rarity:
Each class of insects has seven members. Take 'Tree-Dwelling' for example: the approximate chance of getting a Ringed Wasp is 50%, Woolly Aphid 25%, Red Cricket 12.5%, and so on with the remaining insects of the class. If you extend this pattern to 7 insects, the percentages add up to 99.22%.
Now my goal is to try and refine my theory, and hopefully prove it with some data! The other thing I don't know is exactly which of the rarest insects in each class are the 'rarest', it is hard to tell with the last two or so in the group. Extensive testing should resolve this as well though.
The other mystery is the final class 'Crop Dwelling' which supposedly has 14 members (2 of which have not been reported yet). How do the mechanics of this class work compared to the others? Or is it really two separate classes (the final member of each would be missing)?
